The Contest of Nations

The Contest of Nations is an annual Rugby invitational for National 7s Mens Rugby teams. It is among the largest 7s tournaments in Eras.

Teams compete in preliminary rounds, through which they accumulate a record. The teams with the best records will then move onto bracket play, where they will compete in usual tournament single elimination games before two finalists are determined. These finalists then compete in the last game for the title, First Among the Nations.

Nations wishing to apply may fill out an application, registration shall be closed at the discretion of the Commissioner.

Day One Results

Pool A
NationTeam NameRecord
CalliseThe Chamois5-0
XentheridaDen Flammar3-2
HightonSeven Stars1-4
AndrenneThe Vikings1-4
After five matches, Pool A remains contested yet somewhat predictable. At an undefeated record, the Callisean Chamois seem poised to clinch a spot in bracket play. The Chamois Forwards, while lacking due to contract disagreements with the CRA, exceeded expectations in their game against Xentherida. Ernest Regnard hammered a hole in the Xentheridan Defense twice to score two tries. Keep an out for Callise as a serious playoff contender. But don't count out Xentherida; with a winning record of 3-2, they could easily pull off several upset victories to overtake Callise as the leaders in Pool A. Star Hooker Gustav Winblad scored a total of seven tries in five games, making him the leading scorer of the tournament so far. Look out for Winblad and his elite Forwards later on in the tournament. In third place is Highton, with a 1-4 record. A team with realistic, yet hopeful, expectations, The Seven Stars have had a somewhat disappointing showing. The backs, the heart of the Highton Rugby Team, have missed several would-be game-winning tries. And while they cannot be counted out yet, the Seven Stars are on thin ice. In dead last place is Andrenne. A country somewhat uninterested in Rugby, Andrenne had an expected losing record of 1-4. Their hopes of entering bracket play are all but gone.
Pool B

NinhundlandDer Wölfe0-5

Pool B remains relatively more contentious, but the star Iraelian team seems unbeatable. In all five of their matches they won by a two-try margin, making them seem like a lock for bracket play. That being said, Prydania has had a strong showing thus far. Successfully recalling some of their best players from the CRA, they have outperformed expectations. They pulled off an upset victory against Valland making many believe they are a viable competitor for the Pool title. Sutherland came away with third place and an expected 2-3 record, with their young and somewhat unremarkable team pulling off wins against Ninhundland and Syrixia. Speaking of Ninhundland, Der Wolfe placed dead last among all teams competing in the tournament. Scoring a total of two tries, the team which appeared to be a contender based on raw physicality botched several easy matchups and has lost most hope of competing in bracket play. And while unconfirmed, several rumors have been floating around that Ninhundish staff members are under investigation in the wake of the failed steroid test of Fabian Romkel.
Pool C
NationTeam NameRecord
VallandAll-Confederation4-1
NaizerreThe Warriors3-2
GotmarkOst3-2
SyrixiaThe Lions0-5
Pool C appears the most competitive thus far. While Valland's elite forwards have assured them the top spot, they're facing a serious threat from The Warrios. Naizerre boasts the highest scoring (and most penalized) forwards in the tournament thus far, with the props and hooker combining for a total of 12 tries. Naizerre upset Valland with a last minute Field Goal from Hooker Eric Chogo winning the game, further contesting Valland's spot as the #1 team. Another dark horse appears to be Gotmark. Boasting the same record as Naizerre, Gotmark has quietly slid in as a potential contender for a move on to bracket play. And in dead last was Syrixia. A nation relatively new to Rugby, Syrixia is not expected to move on to bracket play.
Pool D
NationTeam NameRecord
GoyanesThe Big Blue5-0
SkandaThe Wayfinders2-3
YalkanThe Napping Birdies2-3
Sil DorsettRC Chevaliers Pégase1-4
Pool D is by far the least contested in the tournament. The elite Big Blue have easily attained an undefeated record, handily beating their opponents. Skanda and Yalkan, who lag behind with records of 2-3, have very little hope of usurping Goyanes as the leader in Pool play. And Sil Dorsett, while still managing one win over Ninhundland, is even less likely to pull off an upset. This means that most gamblers can safely say Goyanes will move on to bracket play.

Day Two Results

Pool A

NationTeam NameRecord
CalliseThe Chamois10-0
XentheridaDen Flammar5-5
HightonSeven Stars4-6
AndrenneThe Vikings1-9
After a second round of play, Pool A appears all but closed out. Callise continues it's Day One win streak as it remains the only team that is still undefeated. Xentherid comes in at second, having won twice and lost thrice on Day Two. Interestingly, Highton improved with a Day Two record of 3-2. And in last place is Andrenne, with a Day Two record of 0-5. And while an undefeated Day Three Xentherida could supplant Callise, this pool looks all but closed out.
Pool B

IraeliaThe Fightin' Maccabees9-1

NinhundlandDer Wölfe0-10
Pool B finds itself in a very similar situation to Pool A. Iraelia unsurprisingly still leads the pool, but has taken an unexpected loss to Goyanes. This makes the Day Two first seed team drop to the second seed behind Callise. At the second spot is Prydania, commanding a respectable 6-4 record. This makes them a serious contender for the Pool B title or a wildcard spot. But don't count out Sutherland either; a 3-2 improvement from Day One means their one win away from usurping Prydania. And in last place is Ninhundland, remaining the only winless team throughout the tournament.
Pool C
NationTeam NameRecord
VallandAll-Confederation7-3
NaizerreThe Warriors7-3
GotmarkOst5-5
SyrixiaThe Lions1-9
Pool C is in a unique position among the other divisions. The top spot is occupied by both Valland and Naizerre at a record of 7-3. Naizerre pulled off a stunning Day Two performance, with a 4 to 1 win ratio. On the other hand, Valland has slipped to a 3-2 record on Day Two. This means that either team has an equal chance of winning the Pool. In third place is Gotmark, slipping slightly from 3-2 in Day One to 2-3 in Day Two. In last place is Syrixia, having won a single game in Day Two against Ninhundland.
Pool D
NationTeam NameRecord
GoyanesThe Big Blue7-3

Pool D, while not tied, still remains contested. Goyanes slipped massively in Day Two, with three losses sullying their undefeated record. Surprisingly, Skanda has made a somewhat succesful bid at the number one spot, winning four of their five Day Two games. Yalkan wasn't so lucky, fielding a 2-3 record in Day Two to complement their 2-3 record in Day One. And in dead last is Sil Dorsett, winning two of their Day Two games.

Day Three Results

Pool A

NationTeam NameRecord
CalliseThe Chamois15-0
XentheridaDen Flammar8-7
HightonSeven Stars5-10
AndrenneThe Vikings2-13
At the conclusion of preliminary play, Callise remains the sole undefeated team going into the elimination rounds. In second place in Pool A is Den Flammar, commanding a respectable 8-7 record. Yet while they managed to achieve a winning record, it won't be good enough to earn them a spot in the wildcard round. In third place is Highton, winning one of thei Day Three matchups and commanding a final record of 5-10. And in last place is Andrenne, with a meager 2-13 record.
Pool B
NationTeam NameRecord
IraeliaThe Fightin' Maccabees14-1
PrydaniaThe Crimson Storm9-6
SutherlandThurifers7-8
NinhundlandDer Wölfe0-15
While Pool B was somewhat up for grabs in Day Three, a strong showing by Iraelia has ensured them a bye in the first round of elimination play. Iraelia won all five of there Day Three games to attain a final record of 14-1. Behind them was Prydania, who fell just short of the wild card at 9-6. Sutherland was just behind them, with a barely losing record of 7-8. And in last place was Ninhundland, with the only non-winning record in the tournament. To make matters worse for Der Wölfe, definitive evidence has been found linking the team staff to failed drug tests. As a result, Ninhundland's involvement in this tournament has been voided, and they shall be banned from all further competition for the next three years.

Pool C
NationTeam NameRecord
NaizerreThe Warriors11-4
VallandAll-Confederation10-5
GotmarkOst7-8
SyrixiaThe Lions2-13
And what at first seemed impossible has finally come to fruition in Day Three. Naizerre, after two subsequent strong appearances in Days Two and Three, has managed to snatch the Pool C lead from Valland. After going 4-1 in Day Three, they clinched the seed over the All-Confederation, who had a Day Three record of 3-2. But Valland need not fret, their record of 10-5 has ensured that they will have a spot in the Wildcard Round of elimination play, and shall have one last chance to beat their Naizerrean foes. Behind the All-Confederation was Gotmark, with a losing record of 7-8, and behind them was Syrixia, finishing with a record of 2-13.
Pool D
NationTeam NameRecord
GoyanesThe Big Blue12-3
SkandaThe Wayfinders10-5
YalkanThe Napping Birdies5-10
Sil DorsettRC Chevaliers Pégase3-12
In spite of a valiant effort from the Wayfinders, Goyanes' Big Blue has managed to hold on to their lead as the champions of Pool D. But Skanda's push for the first seed will be rewarded, with a respectable 10-5 preliminary record, they will be granted a spot in the Wildcard Round, where they shall challenge Big Blue for the right to move on to the next step in elimination play. Behind Skanda was Yalkan's Napping Birdies, who finished the tournament with a 5-10 record, and Sil Dorsett's RC Chevaliers Pégase, with a 3-12 record.

(OOC: I'm going to just announce the results, don't have it in me to do the play-by-play atm)
