HIGHTON'S CHOICE 2018
HhZaMbp.png

Two years ago, the Crowned Republic held it's last legislative election. The Conservative Party led a right wing coalition with the Recht and Libertarian Parties to form a government. Since then, the political landscape has changed quite a bit, with two major elections in the past few months having a large impact. The first was the North Highton Gubernatorial Election, where Cynthia Ophizeichen (Liberal) shocked the nation and overcame incumbent Ben Thorpe and former Royal Party nominee Qol Toz to win the election in the second round, coming back from a large deficit in polls just a week before the election. The other was the Phoenix Union Special Election in May, when six seats were up for grabs following Highton admittance into the alliance. There were five districts and one federal seat, with the Conservatives winning three regional seats and Liberal Zoe Nova winning one seat. Former Liberal President Ida Schönau actually won a seat, running as a Libertarian, and also surprisingly, Independent Robert Torrance won the federal seat painting himself as a compromise candidate. Schönau's election brings with it traction to the Libertarian Party, especially in the state of Pobfénix, where there is a Libertarian running in every district. The far-right Recht Party also is looking to win more seats in Hightonia, and Otto Heidl currently leads polls in that state ahead of the upcoming Gubernatorial Election in October. The Royal Party's failure in both elections doesn't look good for the second oldest party in Highton, with many voters moving over to the Liberal Party.

The election will take place between August 18th and August 26th, and legislators will be sworn in on September 5th.

Alexandria Election (18th of August)
Y6nFzqm.png

lq9iJyI.png
The Conservatives had a strong showing in the center of the city to the surprise of many, while the Liberals took most of the surrounding suburbs. The Royalists won two seats in the northeast.

Conservative: 5 Seats
Liberal: 10 Seats
Royal: 2 Seats
Other: None

The Autonomous City of Alexandria is the first state to hold their election, with citizens of the nation's largest city going to the polls to vote. Support for the Conservatives have dropped, with inner city support being split between the Liberals and rising Libertarians.

MsV0kx6.png
A surprising result for sure, with Conservatives barely holding on to the coastal/port districts by margins of 2%, 2.3%, and .4% from north to south. The Libertarians won two seats in the same state for the first time in history, winning both inner-city seats in the Autonomous City. Although the third district was lost, the Royal Party made up for the loss by winning the 15th district. The Liberals won a majority of seats in Alexandria for the second successive election, the first time a party other than the Royals have won Alexandria twice in a row.

That's it for tonight folks, an interesting result in the most densely populated part of the country. Tomorrow is North Highton, the state where the capital is located. We'll see if the Liberals can retain the majority of seats there.

North Highton Election (19th of August)

The results from two years ago were pretty standard for the state, an equal split between Red and Blue. The Conservatives won 7 seats, and the Liberals won 7 seats, having the Royals take away 0.

Conservative: 7 Seats
Liberal: 7 Seats
Other: None

North Highton is the second state to hold their election, with citizens of the first state going to the polls to vote. The Royals are not expected to win seats once again, but the Liberals and Conservatives are also unpopular in the state. Since Independent candidates do not run in this house of the Legislature, politicians have to pick a party and in the last few months, the Libertarians have been a popular choice. There is a concern that District 4 could fall to the Socialist Party, with the Royal Party failing to pick Henry Gardener to run and the candidate switching parties. Should he win, it would be the first Socialist legislator ever.

Nobody. Saw. That. Coming. Chaos in North Highton. Two years ago, people panicked when North Highton split its seats. Now, there is no clear leading party and next year's local legislative elections are sure to be very interesting. With 14 seats up for grabs, 5 took at least one. In addition, Die Recht only lost by a narrow margin in the 14th district, meaning we were just a few hundred votes away from having a 6th party. As expected, the Libertarians stole a few seats away from the Liberals and Conservatives. Gardener did pull through in the end, leaving the Socialist Party with a not so Socialist candidate and their first seat in the Capitol. No seats flipped between Red and Blue, but the district east of the capital city surprisingly flipped Royal. After two states, the Libertarian Party has won 4 seats, and the Libertarian stronghold of Pobfénix goes to the polls tomorrow. In Pobfénix, some predict that yellow could potentially win two-thirds of the seats.

It's certainly a dream start for the left wing alliance, the Liberals having their best ever showing and the Conservatives failing to muster more than 7 seats with one-quarter of the election complete. Tomorrow will be Pobfénix, where the Libertarians could take center stage and potentially win 6 or more seats.

Two years ago, the Conservatives won the state with 5 seats. The Liberals had 3 and the Libertarians had 1.

Conservative: 5 Seats
Liberal: 3 Seats
Libertarian: 1 Seat

Pobfénix is the third state to hold their election, with citizens of the westernmost state going to the polls to vote. Pobfénix is known for it's former empire and it's geographic oddity within the Crowned Republic, but this election could breed a new reputation for it. As many as 6 of the 9 seats could potentially go Libertarian, as the nation's fourth party continues on its spectacular rise this election. Pobfénix has long been the Libertarian hub of Highton (its headquarters are in Port Phoenix), and it was the first state to legalize marijuana in 1964. The Conservatives have all but surrendered to the Yellow Party, throwing support behind them in this state. It has been benefiting from the Alternative Vote ballot so far, taking advantage of a split Liberal-Conservative electorate and winning second ballots.

An even better showing from the Libertarian Party than was previously expected... just one seat, Inner Jefferson, short of a full sweep! Those at the bottom of the political compass will sleep well tonight knowing that their party has just about secured it's place in the future of Highton with the stunning 8 seats won in Pobfénix. The Royal Party didn't even run candidates. The Liberals won the lone district of Inner Jefferson. Perhaps the near-sweep of the Libertarians is a little misleading, though, since 3 were incumbent Conservatives who switched parties in this state and 2 had been affiliated with the Conservatives at some point.

It's shaping up to be another close election, with the Left only two seats ahead of the Right coalition. Tomorrow is two states, Hightonia and Cocoland, largely considered Conservative stronghold states. This is where Die Recht jumps onto the scene, the far-right party, which aims to win all three of Hightonia's seats.

Cocoland and Hightonia Elections (22nd of August)

In 2016, the Conservatives easily won 4 of the six available seats but lost out to Die Recht in the other two.

Conservative: 4 Seats
Die Recht: 2 Seats

Cocoland and Hightonia are the two largest states by land area, but the two smallest by population. Since 2010, they have held elections on the same day. Traditionally, these states have been Conservative save seats and Hightonia has gone red every election since 1961. Cocoland is the nation's largest Green Party community, and if any seats do go green they would likely be in Cocoland's 1st district. Meanwhile, Die Recht is leading polls in all three districts of Hightonia and could have a larger impact on the nation.

Jkcpgnh.png
These two states provided a huge day for minor parties– the Green Party is in the Legislature for the first time, and Die Recht has won half of the possible seats. The Conservatives lost seats yet again in this election, and it looks like they'll have to rely on diplomacy with the Coalition.

Tomorrow, Talanskland hold's it's election. It may prove the last bastion for the Royal Party, who aims to win at least a few seats in the state.

2016's election saw a massive amount of seats won by the Conservatives, with only two not going Red– one to Die Recht and Nola to the Royals.

Conservative: 9 Seats
Die Recht: 1 Seat
Royal: 1 Seat

Talanskland is seen as the last bastion for the Royal Party, with the cities of Nola and Duderstadt looking to go Navy. Die Recht appears to be retaining the 11th district, and incumbent Conservative Sal Francicella has switched to the Liberatians in the 7th district. Other than that, a Conservative sweep is expected, with the Liberals maybe eeking out a surprise win in Calabria to dethrone Francicella.
EgBDmbu.png
Results that were expected happened. The Conservatives walk away with seven seats, the Royals with two, and the Libertarians and Recht with one a piece. The Conservative Party has finally won a large state handily, and now has the most seats of any party in the expected Right Coalition. Despite this, they did lose one seat out to the Royal Party in Duderstadt, a loss which could have a profound impact come the 27th of August (Coalition Day).

Next up, the big one. Aleman hold it's elections, where the Liberals could win a huge number of seats in big cities such as Trier and Glöckenkirchen. Reyterra's election, the last, could determine the fate of the next two years should the left win enough seats in Aleman's cities.

Aleman's districts have been polling primarily for Conservatives. The more spread out rural regions of Aleman obviously are expected to go red again, with maybe a yellow or grey here or there, while the large cities of Trier and Glöckenkirchen should remain shades of blue. Despite this, with results elsewhere favoring the Liberals, the Royal Party could struggle yet again. Perhaps, a few suburban districts could turn over to the Conservatives.

Ring any bells? Very similar turnover, with one Conservative district turning over to the Libertarians and Die Recht. The Conservatives won a few small districts in Trier, which the Royals were reduced to the sole inner-city Glöckenkirchen.

The last election did good for the Conservatives, not only winning the three safe seats but also winning four seats in the 3City-Victoria Greater Metropolitan Area. The Liberals and Royal split other city seats

Conservative: 7 Seats
Royal: 7 Seats
Liberal: 6 Seats

The Conservatives should keep safe seats and could win a few scattered city seats. Royal Party seats are expected to switch back over to the Liberal Party.

Reyterra will just be a two-party state in this crazy multi-party election. To the surprise of absolutely nobody, the Liberals won 13 seats and the Conservatives 6.

The final election will not contain any voting, but the national seats will be given based on results. So unless there are some surprises, the sole Green Party representative Adama Plant will have a lot of power...
