Villa-Pisani-Veneto-region.jpg

Arc-Wonderess Nathan Jarreau paced the grand hall straightening the flags and checking the ornate sideboards lining the room for dust. If two years ago anyone would have told him he would be leading a country in its infancy independent from persecution or perpetual violence he wouldn't of believed them. But this is now. The sufferings and horrors of days past are not what is important now. Loyalty to the people, the world, and above all else God are what matter most. Seeing that the dignitaries were set to arrive any second the Arc-Wonderess walked to the hall's center with the Arc-Regent to his left and the Cardinal of ArchCentre to his right. Before ordering the great doors opened he declares to the room:

"We are about to meet some of the greatest nations of the known world. Remember that our history is minuscule in comparison to their traditions. They are more advanced economically, militarily, culturally, and politically, but we are Federates of this Sutherland. We need only God who like this sun is bright constant and ever watching over us. Therefore my friends we are to be cordial, astute, and humble. Let them not forget however, that we are now a nation worthy of respect and trust. Now ambassador please open the doors to Sutherland's future."

With this order the doors are opened as the assembly await their arrivals.

Message- January 1st 2018:

TO: Arc-Wonderess Nathan Jarreau
SUBJECT: Inquiry

Arc-Wonderess:

The Empire lodges this message to you in the hopes that it will be responded to with an answer fulfilling the coming inquiry for which this message has been written and sent; that inquiry being one regarding the nature of the meeting to which the Sutherland Federation has invited representatives from the nations of the world.

It is the earnest opinion of the Empire that relations between it and nations such as the Sutherland Federation be as amicable as possible, and as such the Empire would be very willing to send a delegation to Archcentre. However, it is expedient that we lodge our aforementioned inquiry.

Could not the Sutherland Federation have sent letters such as this and engaged in correspondence with nations rather than inviting delegations? The coordination of such an event alone would likely be quite expensive- as well as any gifts foreign delegates may receive or any catering fees should any meals be provided before, during, or after any prospective talks.

Furthermore, as mentioned before, what is the nature of the meeting? What will the Sutherland Federation be proposing to the mass of foreign delegates? It does not appear that any agenda has been announced; only that the delegates have been invited.

We hope you will be able to respond at your earliest convenience.

Best Regards,
Rahul Khanna
Secretary of State of the Syrixian Empire

From the Office of the Arc-Wonderess

It is the hope of our nation, good secretary, that all good and prosperity be upon you. In response to your well taken question, we as a nation of considerable youth are looking to seek out friendships and mentors. This conference is a gesture of openness to the world around us rather than wretched isolation. This event has no military aim but wishes to foster peaceful bonds that are to withstand history not yet written. We believe an introduction of our nation is in order and requires the greatest of celebrations within our capital to do so. In regard to your worry of expense I assure you that our citizens have been overjoyed to provide for you the greatest cuisine as provided by the various dominions of this federation. A delegation from Silvas has sent freshly caught shrimp to be boiled by the most renown chefs of the region. Steaks from the great ranges of Bereda have been provided as well among other goods. The bookbinders of Scholastic have printed special copies of The Wondrous Orders, our most prized volume, for the representatives that accept our invitation. All preparations for the conference have been voluntary donations in good will because the Sutherland Federation is not just a government but a full union of faithful people wishing to show the world what is special about our nation. We hope you come in confidence and friendship to share in joy and camaraderie with us.

In faith & patience,

To the Arc-Wonderess of the Sutherland Federation

The D.D.M (The Democratic Districs of Midir) send this to you in regards to the meeting in question. We in the D.D.M hope we can have a strong, peaceful relationship with the Sutherland Federation, but regretably we must decline the invitation. While we have nothing against such a meeting, the D.D.M is currently dealing with other issues at this moment and we sadly cannot spare any people to meet with the Arc-Wonderess.
We hope this does not create an unfavorable sentiment between our two nations.

From,
Cedric Asher, Secretary of Foreign Relations and Trade

The Arc-Wonderess eyes him with a makeshift smile. His sudden entry has caught the assembly a little off guard.

May God be with you good sir. The Prime Councilman, Nelson I presume. It is truly an honor to meet with you today. What a monumental occasion We hope you find Sutherland filled with hospitality and majesty on your visit. Please indulge my fellow representatives and myself with stories of your people's own greatness. We are so eager to learn of others outside our sovereign borders.

“Hahaha ok, thank you, but please don’t be so formal! Let me tell you about the war for freedom. It was the greatest civil war of history of tommatito! You see we used to be a dictatorship, but the people revolted! The country was split in half. The people in power and people that supported them wanted the county to stay the same. But the oppressed and their supporters wanted freedom. The rebels couldn’t stand a chance against the powerful government and the country as isolationist so they couldn’t get aid! Loss after loss until a secret operation was put in action to assasinate the dictator. At the same time all of the rebel forces raided most of the military bases. 3 out of the 10 bases were captured and the dictator was assasinated. After that the rebels were able to get control over the government and a new system was implemented. A high council was formed and I was elected as the first prime councilmen! Now enough about me, tell me your stories.”

How courageous! We share a similar story of self liberation. Our fatherland of McMasterdonia fell into disarray while the Flemingovian Church began an assault against the government and indirectly our people, the followers of Courantism. We took advantage of the nation's instability and fled north to the wilderness to create a nation of our own. Now, we some 1,200,000 souls are united to do our part to better this world and remain a safe haven for our own faith and people looked down upon and uncared for. I know our shared spirit for justice and freedom shall make us close allies!

"Yes, I too believe we will be good allies and friends. Even though we may have a few differences I am not going to let them determine good people and countries. It seems like you are a person of faith, please tell me of that."

This is very true. Sutherland was born out of a vision os that we a nation of faithful Courantists could serve God above all else in our daily work, treatment of others, and relations to countries other than our own. We hope to grow as a nation that exemplifies faithfulness above all other things and we wish to be a voice of reason and peace in a world that looks to conflict and power for solutions. I greatest test is our future relationship with our motherland McMasterdonia which has a choice to accept our invitation to be neighbors at least tolerant of one another or to once more strike against our faith and liberty by opposing our very existence. This is a time of trial and tribulation for the Sutherland Federation, but we know that if we are true to our ideals and work for a solution free of war or physical conflict, we can accomplish anything as one country and as a friend to other just and faithful countries of Eras!

"It is quite strange that no other leaders have arrived yet. In fact I find it quite rude! I think it would be a good idea deal to make an alliance of sorts, we help each other be honest and uncorupted. If you think it is a good idea, but I will need to talk to my fellow councilmen. I feel that if we help each other then we could help even more people, and I know what a trick position you are in, I'm sure relations with McMasterdonia are quite tense."

Mod Note: Don't assume others haven't shown up. RP doesn't happen in real-time. Others may be there and just haven't posted. ("Time is not linear in RP")
Oops sorry. I'll keep that in mind

I assure to you that Sutherland is open to all nations who wish to engage in cooperation with any nation that wishes peace, betterment of Eras, and the good of all. You can count us among your friends. Regarding McMasterdonia, I believe that there is hope yet that we can settle our differences and turn our tribulation into a relationship of strength. It is only a matter of timing and faith.

Yes, I swear on behalf of my people that we will aid you in all of your troubles. I'm very interested in what other cultures are like, what are your values, holidays, celebrations, specialties, etc. For example we in Tommatito are renowned for our hardy beer and vodka, hahaha!

How exciting! We focus our time on piety and liturgical celebration. I would say the Easter Octave is the greatest celebration of the year. Community is a very significant theme throughout Sutherland with the people taking pride in how they can serve their community either by farming rice, furthering our philosophy, or even making a community garden. I feel that I would be disadvantaging you as an ally if I did not make you aware of Our Treatise on World Relations. It may help you to become better acquainted with our vision for foreign affairs. Now I must ask you of a curiosity that has caught my interest. Does the name of your noble nation, Tommatito, come from a significant crop of Tomatoes? Or is there another origin of the title?

“Hahahaha! No our name does not come from our tomatoes, though I get that question quite a lot! We changed our name after the revolution to ‘Tommatito’ which means freedom in our ancient launguage! I find your form of government quite unique and interesting! In Tommatito no single person is incharge, the major aspects of our government is split between 5 councilmen. I, the prime councilmen, focus on larger issues, international affairs and am basically the face of Tommatito as some might say. Any councilmen can be recalled at anytime, this is how we prevent corruption and unhappiness the people may feel with our leaders. Each region of Tommatito is also represented by a minister that has say in many issues, especially on the state level. Any issue is discussed by the council in public and then voted on by the people. As we are a relatively new nation our selves we find many challenges with our government but we always work them out in the end! What challenges have you faced with your government if you don’t mind me asking?”

Well, I think the main challenge is defining the purpose of the federal government. Domestically, it has little power other than holding an advisory role. It is defining its power through international affairs that have had to be ironed out. Also, we must address the fluctuation of the population overtime. This government works well with 20 million people. We are trying to be proactive in order to adapt when our population begins to increase overtime.

“That is indeed quite difficult to overcome, our 2nd councilmen takes care of the more individual problems, any problems that the citizens have with the government or how things are running. And as I said before each region has a minister which I think can help as the population expands. I also feel that international relations is very important, there are some problems that can only be solved on a global scale and you can only solve them with international cooperation. I also feel it is in everyone’s best interests for others to be happy, people are more likely to listen to you and help you when they are happy.”

The South Fallsian government would like to reciprocate the Invitation that it has received for the world Sutherland Conference. Attending the summit, we believe, will help foster international relations with monarchies, something that The South Falls has never done well on. We believe that there is nothing standing between us, and better international relations.
While this letter is quite short, we think that it drives the point home for you, as best as we can do. Please accept our invitation. We will be sending an appointed ambassador, in one day, at the summit.
