Administrators' Day:
1. After Clause 7 of Section 10.2 of the Legal Code the following new clause is added:
The sixteenth of February shall be Administrator's Day, and shall commemorate the selfless and dedicated Administrators from the past and the present and their vital work in maintaining the forums.
People don't often appreciate enough how much Administrators do or have done behind the scenes, so the addition of this holiday will let us thank those who give us their time and effort to ensure that the forums are working and maintained. They have been the backbone of the forums for as long as any official regional forum has existed and have worked tirelessly to ensure that we can all have access to a place where we can improve and progress as a community.

I'm torn.

I don't do this job for recognition, I do it because I have some skills in this area and because I love this community.

I'm partially a fan. After all the Administrators do a lot of work for us, however that could be said about numerous positions. The RP Mods for example do a lot of work as well, as do the Justices. I must admit that I'm torn as well. Maybe if the holiday were to celebrate the contribution of other groups who do a lot of work I would be for it.

I think a strong separation between in-game government and admins is the best policy. An official government holiday for admins seems to.. violate that principle.

I have no quibble with the selected timing for this, but it should be added in chronological order, not at the end of the section.

I mean let's be honest here, if you're an admin because you want recognition or accolades then you're in the wrong job. As far as I'm aware the entire active staff feel the same about this.

It is a simple thank you from people who have seen your influence on this community. It isn't so that admins can be recognized or awarded. It is about every admin who has volunteered their time and skills so that we have an area in which we can function as a region. It is so that we can have a day of thankfulness and appreciation for the work they do... what is so bad about that?

Am I missing some unwritten rule somewhere? We have a regional religion named after and worshipping one of our longest serving admins - would a holiday (1 out of 365 days) really hurt that much?

I'll edit it so it fits in chronologically.

The RP Mods do a lot of work for RPers and TNPRP. Justices do a lot of work to deal with criminal charges. Administrators make it possible for all of those groups to have a place to do what they do in the first place. Couldn't we at the very least have one day in the whole year for that?

14. The twenty-third of November shall be Founders' Day, and shall commemorate and celebrate the establishment of the first official forum of The North Pacific, and through it the community which has kept The North Pacific as the preeminent region in NationStates.

What need does this new holiday meet that could not be met by Founders' Day?

That holiday celebrates the forums, not the admins who have been maintaining them for more than 12 years.

Could always just try implementing the Awards and Awards Page by Quozzo, and adding awards to profiles:

Working example that I implemented in Lazarus: http://s15.zetaboards.com/NSLazarus/pages/awards
Code:
<script type='text/javascript' src='http://b3.ifrm.com/30562/185/0/f7010501/awards-02-07-2017.js'>/* Awards script (edit this) */</script>
<script type='text/javascript' src='http://b3.ifrm.com/30562/185/0/f7011180/Awardsandawardspage.js'>/* shows awards page */</script>
That's an alternative way to recognizing people, without having to mark a special day.

Could you please make a thread in forum operations with this suggestion? Preferably with a link to its documention and page so we can look into it.

Okay.

I appreciate the sentiment (although I have not been active enough recently to deserve it), but like SillyString i would prefer to keep administration out of the constitution entirely.

I won't drag this on any longer. It is clear what the outcome will be even if I continue.

I motion to remove this bill from the floor.
