Prydanian Flags Through the Years
National flag
1029-2002, 2017-present
The Cross of Lion's Rest. The flag's origins lie with the House of Lothbrok, the dynasty that ruled the small Kingdom of the Islands from Lion's Rest off the coast of Prydania. It became one of two banners associated with the House of Lothbrok, along with the lion banner.
To say the flag first became the national banner of a united Prydania in 1029 with Vortgyn of Lothbrok completing his conquest would be incorrect. The notion of national banners didn't exist at that point, and both the barbed cross and the lion banner were used to represent the Crown. The cross banner began to represent the state around the mid-1600s, while the lion banner became the standard of the Royal family and the King.
It served as the national flag until 2002, and was restored in 2017.
1667-1818
A defaced UKAG ensign. This was adopted when King Eric VI of Prydania knelt to the unified King-Emperor of the UKAG, acknowledging him as supreme sovereign of the North. This would have been around the time the Cross of Lion's Rest became the "national" flag, as the Kingdom of Prydania needed a national banner to fly under the UKAG ensign.
2002-2017
The flag of the Syndicalist Republic. The Syndicalist Republic did away with all royalist symbols, adopting new ones in line with the traditions of socialist heraldry.
The new coat of arms features a red socialist star, the Starry Plough (long a symbol of Prydanian socialism), wheat to represent agriculture, and a cog to represent both industry and the Syndicalist Party. The purple and green have long been the colours of radical left wing politics in Prydania.
Standard of the Head of State
1029-2002, 2017-present
The banner of the House of Lothbrok. The lion had always been the symbol of the family, dating back to before Vortgyn unified the country. It had long been the banner of the family ruling the Islands from Lion's Rest.
2002-2017
The flag of the Chairman of the Syndicalist Presidency. A square red flag with the emblem of the Syndicalist Republic in the centre.
