Tadovan:
Hey guys. After seeing the kinds of things this ministry does, I believe there are some simple ways to improve our campaign effectiveness. Here's a couple I think would benefit the home affairs ministry greatly:

  • Feedback - We should find out if our campaigns are effective or not. For example, for our current NPA recruitment campaign, we can ask people who are joining the NPA to put a line in their application saying, "How did you find out about the NPA? (Browsing the forum, received telegram, word of mouth, regional boards, etc)". This way we can get feedback on how well we're doing, what works, and what doesn't. I could also use this to put statistics and data together to be able to better target our campaigns.
  • Shorter messages - Right now, while the message that we're sending is ok, it does have several paragraphs worth of text. I used bullet points to sort through the benefits and steps to join and took out any extra text I thought was unnecessary. People don't have long attention spans. (You can find a copy of mine at the bottom of this post)

These are my opinions, but I believe that it would serve us very well to implement them.

Hey there!

I wanted to reach out to you and talk to you about the North Pacific Army (NPA). The NPA is The North Pacific's military force, and it is currently one of the largest military forces in all of NationStates. I want to invite you to become part of this elite military organization and represent TNP at home and abroad by joining the North Pacific Army.

There are options for both very active and casual nations to participate, so don't worry if you don't have a lot of time to dedicate.

Joining the NPA has many benefits, and allows you to experience more aspects of the game than you could otherwise. Some of these benefits are:
  • Join a wide variety of missions every week, ranging from national liberations to support missions.
  • While doing some of our many raiding or defense operations, you meet plenty of new people and become a bigger part of the community.
  • Experience the thrill of active service, knowing there's always some action to be had.
  • Training is provided and someone is always willing to answer any questions you have.

If you're receiving this message, you already meet all the requirements to join! So what are you waiting for?

Registering on the forums and applying for citizenship and NPA membership takes less than 10 minutes of your time. The NPA continues to grow by the day, and we want YOU to be with us as we expand and continue to dominate NS as the best military force.

If you have any questions about the NPA, joining our forums, or anything else, please let me know.

Looking forward to seeing you on the forums,
[nation=short]Tadovan[/nation]

*If you're not interested in the above, you're welcome to keep your WA here in TNP. Just make sure to endorse our delegate [nation=short]Pallaith[/nation], to help bolster our presence in the World Assembly and keep TNP secure. Thanks!

Hey there!

Congratulations on becoming one of the thousands of nations that exist in the world! The region your nation currently belongs to, The North Pacific (TNP), has many opportunities to get involved and really shape regional and international politics. I hope you stay with us, and I look forward to working with you in the future!

The North Pacific has a fantastic off-site forum, which allows you to get more involved in our region. Some of the things you'll be able to do are:
  • Apply for citizenship, allowing you to vote in the Regional Assembly and run for regional offices.
  • Join the North Pacific Army (NPA), which will allow you to go on missions to defend The North Pacific and our allies.
  • Join one or more of the five ministries that run our region.
  • Participate in a very active role-play department, where you can do anything with your country.

See the links below for details on any of these.
So, stick with The North Pacific, join our forums, and become a member of the most powerful region in the world!

If you have any questions about anything, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you,

Hello there!

First of all, I hope that you're finding NationStates to be an entertaining game so far. One of the cool things about NationStates is that you get to shape your nation however you want, and the issues serve as a way of doing that. But that is not all there is to NationStates when it comes to nation building.

The North Pacific has an active role-play department where players can interact with each others nations.

  • Claim land on the The North Pacific regional map
  • Sign treaties, declare wars, exchange ambassadors, and conduct diplomacy your way.
  • Build up a specific type of government, and then go on to develop its national leaders.
  • Create a culture and history for your citizens and nation.

There are endless possibilities when it comes role-playing, so join us today!

If you have any questions about joining our forums or anything else, please do let me know.

Hope to see you on the forums,

Tadovan:
Hey Guys. So, I've been collecting data from as many sources as possible, from archives to the recruitment threads etc. Here are some of my findings. I'll also tell you how they may be potentially used. For the moment, I only collected data on NPA recruitment, one of our major projects. I'll think about more stats in the future.

Believe it or not, around 80% of our military falls into just 6 of the 27 different possible government types. If we can get the program used to generate nation lists to only hit these types, our workload goes way down. Worth a shot, I'd say. Here's a summary of my findings (these are approximate):

  • Inoffensive Centrist Democracy - 35%
  • New York Times Democracy - 11%
  • Democratic Socialists - 11%
  • Civil Rights Lovefest - 8%
  • Liberal Democratic Socialists - 8%
  • Left-Leaning College State - 5%
  • Other - 22%

My findings have reported that our campaign gives us on average an extra 3 people joining the NPA than before. 5 people on average joined during a campaign instead of 2 (on average, taken from 4 months of application data. looked in the archive for campaign dates). These are weekly figures.

If we implement my first idea, we can also use this as a benchmark to see if it works.

It was fun for me just collecting this data, so if we don't end up using it, or the ideas are thrown out, I'm fine with it. I'll explain anything in this post.

Edited by ABC. 3 Topics Combined. If you have multiple suggestions, next time try to include them in one post. We love suggestions, just try to keep them in one topic.

I definitely agree with your suggestions.

Although, your telegram doesn't mention what the NPA actually does, so you might want to fix that. Other than that, it seems fine.

The second 2 sentences of the letter state what it is, and the first 2 bullets of the "why should you join" elaborate on that. There is very little from the template that isn't included here. Everything is condensed. Here's the "What is the NPA?" section from the template, line by line

The NPA is The North Pacific's military force, and it is currently the largest military in the game created regions (GCRs) and one of the largest in all of NationStates (NS).

-This is the 2nd sentence of my letter.

The NPA participates in both raiding and defense operations, and so we are involved in a wide variety of missions including: tags, detags, refoundings, liberations, hold missions, support missions, and much more.

-My first bullet point in why you should join.

The NPA holds training exercises and formal operations on weekly basis, and on top of that, the NPA has the ability to field more than 20 troops at most updates.

-I've included training exercises as bullet point 4. We don't need to hear how the NPA is the biggest military in a million different ways.

This makes the NPA one of the most active and experienced military forces in all of NationStates.

-Again, the person already knows we're the biggest, and that we're elite. No need to repeat that again.

Sorry if my criticisms are a bit harsh.

Thank you for the suggestions, Tadovan! We can definitely look into methods of obtaining feedback. The method you suggested is a possibility, however, it would require approval from the Ministry of Defense. And that method will not work for all of our recruitment lists (e.g. For RP, there is no real application thread). I also agree that some of the TGs we send can be shortened. Just make sure when you are shortening, no important information is lost. Feel free to start a thread with your shortened TG templates and we will see if we can incorporate them into our recruitment.

Technically, there is an application thread for RP, but it isn't exactly mandatory. I suggest that you say something about joining the regional map. Otherwise, it looks good!
