Problems with Citizenship

I am a little confused because I have been granted citizenship by passing all the checks but my status has not been changed. This is frustrating because I would very much like to become involved in the Regional Assembly, but cannot until my status is changed. Do I have to wait for something if I want to receive citizenship?
