A marvelous speech from His Majesty- one that makes me wonder. It is the goal of a speech to get those who witness them, listen to them, and take their words into their very being to think; to think about what those words mean, to decide if they agree with them, and what to do after they've thought about it and really understood their meaning.
Myself and the other Imperial representatives in attendance, on behalf of the people of the Syrixian Empire, do indeed stand with the Esplandians as we move together into the future. When I walked off the plane from Pataliputra into Karthied, I felt as if I myself was stepping into that future firsthand.
For those watching this ceremony at home anywhere in the Vestrugat or throughout the world, especially those viewers in the Empire and in Esplandia, I say to you this: the future is now. Let this day show that we are now living in an age in which peace and solidarity is slowly beginning to prevail.
In many parts of the world, there is still war, and for those parts and other parts of the world there may be dark days ahead, but if we work hard enough, together, we can make the world a better, freer, more prosperous place to live in. Let this day be a day when we not only remember Sherwin II's ultimate sacrifice, but we, as His Majesty said, mend the breach between our peoples.
What I wonder is- what would I have done? His Majesty said it himself that the attendance of myself and other Imperial representatives here shall help to, as I just stated, mend the breach between our peoples; and to as well make amends for the actions of my forebears.
My ancestor was seduced by a traitorous, vengeful prince; tempted with promises of land and power in a land far away from the Home Islands and even most other colonies of the Empire. If his actions were my own, and I was living his reign, I would never live it down for the rest of my life.
History tells us that the Empire introduced many technologies to the Vestrugat. Esplandians had never even seen Imperial cannons, or any cannons for that matter, before, for example. But, they were introduced to these new things by way of war and conquest.
These things could have very easily be introduced through trade. If the Empire had killed the traitorous prince Heinrik, and delivered him to the Esplandians along with offers of friendship, alliance, and trade, it would have been a better world for both entities. That is what I would have done.
But instead, the legacy of the past reminds us of humanity's flaws- and therefore today, as Sherwin II, the Lost King, joins his fathers and his deceased progeny at last; as he is finally given the burial and funeral ceremonies he has so greatly deserved for centuries- we take the first steps towards transcending those flaws.
Let us, together, ensure that Sherwin II's sacrifice is remembered, and that our world, and our children's world, is better than the world that caused his death. In doing this, he will truly be remembered- not only as one of the greatest kings Esplandia has ever had, but as one of the greatest leaders the world has ever seen.
Thank you.
