Silvia Peninsula Colony
OverviewThe colony was founded in 1812, when Despotoa was at the height of its power. After the coup of Xentherida almost sixty years ago, it began its rampage across the continent, and eventually on to others. Constant warmongering was prominent in this era, as was the land claiming, although these usually failed. However, one land grab managed to hold on. This enclave was called the Silvia Peninsula Colony.
History
After sailing for almost a week, Despotoan troops, somewhat reluctant in their future wars against other nations, stumbled across this enormous peninsula. High ranking officials on this trip instantly decided that it would be an excellent base of operations, and sent out the infantry to administer the land. After travelling for close to three hundred kilometres, for reasons unknown, the infantry halted its outward annexation, and began to close in on the land that it had drawn its perimeter around. Unfortunately for the maniacal leaders, no native tribes were found in the region, for the leaders had hoped to have a group to utterly dominate and terrorise, aside from the usual targets.
Its first recorded use in history was in aggressions against the nations of the southernmost continent; Syrixia, Ertolia and Andulus were all targeted for potential attacks that were never actually committed. It was a base for attacks, and the planning of them, and still to this day there are ruins of military accommodation buildings, and the occasional unexploded shell.
However, after the Great Xentheridan Revolution in 1848, this territory was completely revamped. Most of the current structures were demolished to make way for new buildings. While tests for natural resources, such as coal or natural gas, proved unsuccessful, there were still exotic fruits and materials that were not present in Xentherida. Hundreds upon hundreds of plantations were constructed, and after realising its potential, multiple ports were established to conduct trade with nations outside the range of Xentherida's current ports. The most well-known of these ports is known as Port Ostria, so named after one of its main developers- William Ostria. This port has grown to become the largest “city” in the entirety of the colony, with a population of 560,000.
Population and Government
The current population of the Silvia Peninsula Colony is 1,700,000. It has its own parliamentary system, one completely independent of the Xentheridan mainland's; however, should issues become dire, the Xentheridan government will intervene in the governmental system. To balance this, the Silvian government is allowed to observe any resolutions in the Xentheridan government.
The current leader (the First Minister) is Johnathan Smiths.
Geography
The colony consists of mainly flat land, with jungles and grassy plains common. However, in the south-east, a large desert is present, devoid of any life, night or day. This area has been designated as a nuclear test site. The jungles are rife with all sorts of exotic, protected species of animals. Also present are exotic fruit, such as mangoes, bananas, lemons, limes, papaya, coconuts, durian, passion fruit, and lychees. These fruit have been cultivated in plantations, and are regularly sold abroad en masse, generating enormous amounts of profit. Coffee and sugar are also grown, along with tea and even cotton.
