Andulan History at a Glace
Editorial: Andulan Nexus-Monthly
by: Imian Jadel, Editor-in-Chief of the Western Andulan Branch.
To commemorate the 65th Anniversary of the founding of the Andulan Union and the 45th of the Andulan Nexus. The Andulan Nexus has decided to create this little article to briefly showcase how Andulus was molded into its current form.
Andulus owes its origins to the 6th century City-State of Tala which emerged as a regional trading power engaging in aggressive control over its local oceanic trade lanes. Roughly in the 8th century, this City-State reorganized itself as the Talan Federation and leveraged its wealth into a rapid expansionist campaign through economic, diplomatic and eventually militaristic means. This came to a halt when they reached the western coast and started consolidating its holdings.
In the 10th century the Talain Assembly regained its previous expansionist fever and sent out colony ships the lands east of its Capital City of Tala. These colonists would then form settlements across the coastlines of modern day Eastern Andulus. This not only increased their territory but also had the added benefit of increasing their control over local trade lanes. In the early 13th century, these colonists would rebel against their colonial overseers before being absorbed as the full provinces of Taloka and Xon and the entire nation re-branding itself as the Andulan Republic.
Skipping ahead by the 19thcentury the Andulus State was infamous for its corrupt Presidents and Assembly along with its undemocratic elections. This would cause the state in 1845 to move the capital inland to the City of Itrias as left-wing Militias started popping up along the Eastern Coast of Andulus Proper and its Talokan and Xon Provinces.
The 20th century rolls around and the situation becomes completely unsustainable. Armed Skrimishes have engulfed not only the depopulated rainforests of Andulus but also have spread to the Cidties of the Talan, and Cianan Provinces. All coming to a head a series of earthquakes strike the West Coast provinces of Ertolia and Cilis killing thousands, catalyzing civil unrest and forcing the Andulan Republican Military to suspend the provincial governments of Ertolia, Eshtolia and Cilis. This would lead directly to a break between the Military and Government and an uprising by the Leftist Groups (namely the "People's Democratic Revolt" and "Andulan Social Front") in 1947 sparking the three year long Andulan Civil War.
This Civil War resulted in a merger between the Leftist PDR and ASF groups which would secure modern day Andulus, and the Military completely annexing modern day Ertolia. The Andulan Union and Ertolian Hierarchy would cease active fighting, but would continue to skirmish over border regions for years.
1962 appears and the Ertolian Hierachy falls once more into civil war. Due to more than a decade of complete economic shutdown coupled with ineffective government cause several merchant families to fund a private armed revolt leading to the dissolving of the Hierarchy and an establishment of the Grand Duchy of Ertolia.
The preceding several decades saw Andulus skyrocket into a Golden Age inheriting the Great Metropolises from its Republic Foreberors that were left relatively untouched by the war. The Ertolians were not as lucky, with most of its land scorched with war and depopulated, recovery was slow. This largely catalyzed a reconciliation between the Ertolians and Andulans with the signing the Andul-Ertolian Pact providing large amounts of funds and protection to the Ertolian State and underwriting all debt undertaken by the Ertolian Government.
Some would say and predict that a reunification of the former Republic might be around the corner in the near future and hopefully a return to the might of the Republic of even the Federation. But in reality the Ertolian Kingdom and Andulan Republic have become as separate as any two nations. With completely different economic systems, armies, political structures and even languages that have split off from each other, any attempt at reunification would meet too many resistant factors to succeed.
