[GA] Almost Quorum: On Palm Oil [Complete]

On Palm Oil

A resolution to increase the quality of the world's environment, at the expense of industry.

Category: Environmental | Industry Affected: Logging | Proposed by: British Empire Strikes Back

Description: The World Assembly,

RECOGNISING the fact that palm oil is an important fat source for the world's population due to its affordability,

ACKNOWLEDGING the immense environmental and rainforest destruction and pollution that palm oil production, both legal and illegal, produces,

SADDENED by the unnecessary deaths and displacements of humans, orangutangs, and animals which are caused by palm oil production,

REALISING that palm oil is an exceptionally unhealthy fat, being entirely saturated fat, which has been linked to heart disease,

KNOWING that palm oil is only used due to its affordability,

ACKNOWLEDGING that there are other affordable alternatives, many of which are healthier and have less of a detrimental effect towards the environment:

BANS palm oil due to these factors, as doing so would greatly benefit the environment, orangutangs and other animals, and humans, and allow rainforests to regenerate themselves.[

For, Against, Abstain.

Ministry Determination
Vote Recommendation
AGAINST

This resolution is poorly considered and poorly written. It fails to account for alternative production and harvesting methods for Palm Oil, makes a numerous number of highly specious arguments regarding the health and safety of its production, completely fails to either protect the environment or even prevent member nations from utilizing palm oil-derived products, and clearly has taken no time whatsoever in doctoring the proposal to look presentable at all.

That this has managed to make quorum at all is, frankly, shocking to me. In the interest of avoiding a significant blow to our economies and in the best interest of The North Pacific, the Ministry recommends a vote AGAINST.

Voting on this resolution has ended.

Thanks to those nations who cast their votes. Your participation is a great help to the region.
