Syrixia, as many know, only has one party to prevent scandals and increased debate time on Parliament resolutions.

I'm thinking of introducing multiple political parties to Syrixia and setting up an RP around a sudden demand for multiple political parties.

Thoughts?

Ok. But seriously, what would you all think of this RP? Would you want to participate? Do you support the notion of multiple political parties in Syrixia?

For one thing, single-party states are almost invariably dictatorships. That would be an obvious reason why many would oppose it.

Obviously several people in the single party would have radically different political views. You should make up a big domestic issue that would be very polarizing. This would cause MPs to immediately form named factions that would become political parties.

Another idea could be a hotly contested election. For example, in 1824 the United States had become a de facto single-party state, with the Democratic-Republican Party having a super-majority in Congress, and the only opposition party, the Federalist Party holding a negligible amount of seats. In the 1824 presidential election, four different candidates from the Democratic-Republicans ran for president, the bitter factionalism between the top two candidates (John Quincey Adams and Andrew Jackson) and their supporters eventually resulted in a schism; the party split into the Democratic Party and the National Republican party (which later formed into the Whig Party, and later on the modern Republican Party).

Perhaps you should explain more about Syrixia's political system. Who is Alfred Nursson? What are his policies like? How is he elected?

It's important to note that Syrixia does not technically have a parliamentary system of government. A parliamentary system is by definition a system wherein the executive government is approved by, and accountable to the legislature. In most parliamentary governments, the members of the executive branch are themselves members of Parliament. Some have what's called a Norwegian law, (as Norway is where this convention originates) where members of the executive are chosen from among members of parliament, but must resign their legislative positions once they are chosen. Parliamentary governments also have a separate ceremonial head of state. In some cases it is a monarch, in others it is an elected president. There are exceptions to this rule, South Africa has a President who is the equivalent of a Prime Minister. The actual PM is pretty much a glorified secretary.

I hope this information is helpful to you, and I am interested in this RP.

All our officials in our Parliament are elected through a single transferable vote election, with the people ranking their favorite candidates. Nursson won in a landslide because he wanted to accelerate the space program and encourage more industrial equality between the state and private companies to boost the economy. He also wanted to increase Syrixia's foreign correspondence and more openly have it celebrate its culture, leading to much more tourism (Our biggest industry) and less crime/rebellion/mafia/terrorist groups. Now there are next to none of all those.

Also, we chose the name Parliament for our council because we had a vote on what to call our council in formal senses and Parliament won in a landslide.

As for the issue, I'm thinking a small, Ferguson-style violent protest in a small town can turn into a nation-wide protest for multiple political parties based on people's views- and yes, to answer your question, there is a lot of difference in Parliament, even though technically speaking there is no party at all, and all of Parliament is basically a party with no unique party agenda, instead assimilating the government's agenda because there are no parties.

But down to the real reason I want an RP like this. I wanna use your party-creator thingy you found to create the parties and I wanna make an RP out of it. ;)

Is the PM elected by Parliament, or independently of it? (If he is, I assume he is elected via instant-runoff voting, as STV is specifically for multi-seat constituencies. Both are preferential.)

Anyway, what is the issue that this small riot will be over? It has to be big enough for MPs to specifically want to form parties; to "push them over the edge."

I don't think to take part, i hate politics.
However i think you should have more parties, or at least one other.

The Prime Minister is elected by the people, and members of Parliament may run for candidacy. And yes, instant-runoff vote is used to elect the Prime Minister, as well as the Deputy Prime Minister, who is also elected independently.

The issue, I am thinking, will be a socialist riot in the aforementioned small town, which prompts various ideologies to riot as well, and the petitioning for political parties.

Also, my MPs are not called MPs officially, they are called Ministers, and their title is Minister.

MP = Member of Parliament

This is the new Parliament I would like to create. It numbers exactly 100, the amount Syrixian law requires. Not too much, not too little.

Now then, should I start the RP? And Plemby, since you're interested, would you like to join? Others can join along the way.

Personally, this seems like an interesting RP to watch and I would certainly like to be apart of it. I think that an interesting relationship could develop with the implementation of the parties in the government. I am sure that in the RP you can dig a bit deeper on the scale of what part stands for, what their history is, what their plans are, etc...

Count me in if this goes to an actual RP!

That's my plan, DMB; welcome aboard!

Also wanna let everyone whos interested know; this is a Syrixian RP so any posting style or post length is accepted as long as it's decently written and progresses the story. The RP will be a character RP however participants may issue national decrees and/or speeches when it is appropriate.

And since there will be a socialist party as seen above, I will have them join the Union of North Pacific Socialists after the RP ends, or possibly during.

Syrixia, on your roleplay thread, do you want us to roleplay as government officials or protesters from Syrixia? I was wondering because on other RPs you had us RP people from our own nation.

I was thinking you'd RP as people from your own nation coming to Syrixia to help address this problem of political upheaval and such.

That's what I thought. I'll join later today.

I thought a bunch of people were interested in joining, what happened?

(I call this a practical bump)

As I am interested, I am ready to post, but need clarification of "Dialogue Only". I find it hard to create a solid RP based solely on dialogue as character development suffers with the lack of description. I was wondering if you could clarify the dialogue only and then I can post my part.

What I mean by dialogue only is that I want posts to have some dialogue, and I want to refrain from simple national statements. Perhaps an international conference between two nations would be the closest one could get to such statements.

My country has just one party but it has various factions within the party such as the moderates and fundamentalists who are Liberal and Conservative respectively. This is common in many single-party states.

I really don't know what to post. Do you have a suggestion for how I should join in? I know it's late, but I would like to join anyways... :)

I would like to join in. From what I recall Nasania and Syrixia have a mutual protection pact and several outstanding treaties and economic interests, so we have a vested interest in insuring a stable transition to a friendly government.

Cascadia and Nasania may both join, providing they request to send in forces first as there is currently a war going on.

Unless they want to remain neutral, of course.

Or send medical help.

OR WHATEVER, YOUR CHOICE LOL. I'm lettin' you in.

Plembobria, you may wanna post now; the Ambassador is looking for Mr. Nelson.

I would like to join this role play. Perhaps my nation could be mentioned in one of your posts to introduce my part of the story?
