The Constitutional Monarchy of Alunya is a parliamentary monarchy headed by Regina (Queen) Junia Adele Margherita Teofila Olivotto as head of state, and Prime Minister Dottoressa Valeria Petrini as head of government. The seat of government is in the capitol city of Liverfool, and the government is sovereign on even-numbered days in accordance with the Alunyan Calendar. On odd-numbered days the co-located government of the Kingdom of Alunya, seated in the capitol of Ronronne, is sovereign. Days begin and end at noon in the city of Ronronne; Liverfool is located in the same time zone as Ronronne.
Cities throughout Alunya employ the equilateral triangle as a street pattern with roundabouts at each vertex. Traffic lights and street lighting are non-existent due to roundabouts and dark sky initiatives. There is very little signage of any sort, including traffic direction. Smaller streets do lead into each triangular block; most are one-way, with arrows on signs indicating the direction one should look for approaching traffic. Drivers will usually find a central parking deck (or two) within each neighborhood. Parking itself is free of charge. Almost all vehicles are electric; there is a surcharge for recharging at car parks.
Alunyan dwellings and office structures are seldom more than three floors in height, and are focused on a central courtyard in the Riyadh style. Streetscapes are often intimidating to foreigners, as most exterior walls are monolithic cement, plaster, stucco or adobe with few street-level entrances. Street-level sidewalks exist on the main boulevards but are frequently vacant and used only for walking; there are no sidewalk cafes or restaurants. Elevated pathways and small pedestrian bridges on what Alunyans and Europeans call the first floor, and Americans call the second floor, are the primary venues for foot traffic. Most businesses and homes cater to this level as the primary means of egress for visitors. Many liken an Alunyan neighborhood to the twisty maze of the Casbah located at an upper level as in Lyon.
First time visitors will notice that Alunyans use a senary counting system, have their own unique measures of time, a coherent set of weights and measures, and their own calendar. The coordinate system is left-handed, with the primary axis vertical, the secondary to the left, and the tertiary axis away from the viewer.
Addresses are given as a pair of two senary numbers. The first is the swept angle from true north in the anti-clockwise (or, to Alunyans, clockwise) direction, as measured in Decretti from the city center. There are 216 Decretti in one sweep of a full circle. The second senary number gives the distance from the city center in Longoria, a unit of length equal to approximately 3.408 meters, or 11 feet, 2 inches. Ceramic address tiles are often located near doors, and comparative triangulation will often guide the visitor to the correct location. Alunya is where the streets have no names.
House mains electricity is 149.5 volts single-phase alternating current at a frequency of 58.2 hertz. The Ministry of External Affairs can recommend licensed electricians capable of re-configuring the mains supply to most voltages and frequencies. Water is potable, from either wells or more commonly through desalination and pipeline transport. Liverfool has separate sewer and storm water runoff systems with a gray water catchment system. 3G and 4G wireless compatible carriers are easily available through subscription, and fiber optic hard-wired telecommunications is available in most urban locations. Garbage service is on ground level; street parking on the designated day of service is prohibited and violators will be towed if they do not have diplomatic plates. (Street parking is often discouraged by local residents.)
Subway stations are located underground in each neighborhood. Most are directly connected with the neighborhood car park. The subway is the primary means of travel in urban areas between neighborhoods. Subway trains may be local, intermediate, or express; each is marked with an M to designate which type of service is provided. Subways also connect to the main rail system, the primary means of travel between cities, though buses and private vehicles are also used.
Liverfool, like most major Alunyan cities, has an international airport. Most commercial flights are international in nature. Charter and general aviation flights within Alunya are common, but most Alunyans prefer the rail system domestically.
The Ministry of External Affairs no longer provides grounds for embassies nor housing for foreign diplomats.
