Gonfaloniere's Palace
Floresque
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
I can speak for myself and the entire Signoria of the Floregasque Republic when I say that I was shocked and appalled to receive an invitation from the nation of Cronaal to attend a public execution. The alleged crimes of Jok'mey dos Kahn, if true, certainly do not warrant such a heinous and barbarous response from a nation seeking to present itself as 'civilized'.
In fact, rather than reassuring the Floregasque Republic - and her financiers and economists - that Cronaal is over the worst of this latest rebellion, this news has only served to reassure us that further human rights abuses are to come in Cronaal, and that residents of the state have no recourse from the lawlessness and brutality that has enveloped it. I cannot imagine the terror that the common people of Cronaal feel - stuck choosing between rebels fighting a failing state and the last remnants of the same state's government, who, as this recent announcement shows, do not shy away from using the same brutal methods against their enemies.
How many other insurgents have been executed publicly that the international community has not heard about? How many other people have been killed before the Cronaal government could issue
invitations to foreign governments to watch their deaths? No matter how elegant the letterhead or thick the paper, the invitation that arrived on my desk this morning clearly comes from a failing state that is losing the rule of law over its own territory and turning to inhumane and brutal methods to suppress dissent and outrage.
How much money is being spent on this sick revelry that could be spent on rehabilitating this war-torn nation? How many officials, Cronaali or otherwise, are attending this display of the worst traits of human nature - eating and celebrating while untold others die at the hands of a failed state?
The Republic of Floresque condemns this public display in the harshest terms. We ask that any nations with the same feelings as ours join us in this condemnation, and boycott this hedonistic display of revenge and violence.
