For those of you who don't know me, I'm Cormac (obviously). I've been playing NationStates for three years now, and I've been on and off involved in The North Pacific for most of that time. I can't say that the bulk of my activity thus far has been here, but I've participated in the Regional Assembly and I'm familiar with our laws and the way The North Pacific does things. I'm confident that I'm qualified to serve on the Court based on that.
I'm not sure that running for Justice really lends itself well to a platform. It's hard to come up with "I will _____" statements because, truth be told, nobody can know exactly what will come before the Court for the remainder of the term, and it's inappropriate to deal in hypotheticals that might prejudice me toward an actual case later and require me to recuse myself. What I can promise is that I will be active. I'm on NationStates at least once daily and usually much more often than that, so barring the unforeseen there's no reason to expect delays from me that will hold up the Court's progress. As long as I'm on the Court I won't stand for the kind of long delays we've seen at times in the history of the Court. I'll work with the two other justices to make sure that rulings are still the quality expected by citizens of The North Pacific, but without waiting for months.
I'm proud that, serving as Temporary Hearing Officer, I was already able to help the Court arrive at a ruling in regard to this review within hours of being sworn in as THO. That ruling was a common sense solution to a common sense petition to the Court, and there is no reason it should have taken months and two tortuous opinions that did not bear actual majority support in order to get there. It will be my goal to see an efficient Court that responds to the needs of the TNP community on a timetable that is reasonable, while still upholding justice and preserving the quality of our legal rulings.
That's all from me. I would love to answer any questions you have for me though, and I would appreciate your vote when voting opens!
