ARCHIVED: Return to Ixelonia

(OOC: As Cascadia decided to opt out of this, please disregard all the stuff about Morgan's phone call. I will do it instead. I think it's a good plot point..)

Mickey gets a phone call out of nowhere, and begins to walk away momentarily.

Mickey: One sec, guys. Gotta take this call. It's from the...er, one of the government officials.

Shona: Alright.

Mickey picks up the phone, being sure to heavily encrypt the call incase of interception.

Mickey: Hey. We're about halfway to Al-Odubei. You got that loot out of the ground yet?

Unknown Man: Yeah. We're working on it.

Mickey: Good. Remember the deal; in exchange for me getting one third of the loot I will leak all the information in Syrixia's historical and scientific archives, of which I have access to. I believe that material will be useful to your Azkayii War Group along with your two-thirds of the loot.

Unknown Man: Got it, and when you arrive we kill everyone else on the team?

Mickey: I believe you requested that, yes. But be careful, those clever Kaltians sent some Praetors.

Unknown Man: We've got a bunch of construction machines. They have a choice of death; steamroller crushing or wrecking ball smashing. Hehe.

Mickey: Good. Nice doing business with you.

Mickey walks back to where the team is and everyone continues to Al-Odubei. What they don't know is that just over the nearby sand dune is an army of natives in waiting for hapless passersby.

(OOC: To note, Eknorvia is now renamed to The IOUS Union but it's still a former name for the nation which all of the IOUS Union originated from, Kanaq-selle)

Barqon move his hand out of the beam of sunlight and crept up the stairs, which were just to his left, in case the building was fragile. Barqon was shocked at what he saw, he saw the usual mess which was similar to downstairs but he also saw a Shrine of Kahkithqia. Kahkithqia was an ancient god which the Kanaqi-selle worship, over two million years ago before the Great Dissolution of Eknor'via. there was a small statue of the god, which seemed to be almost breaking from age, and a small cluster of Ebony Candles surrounding the statue. Cobwebs and dust littered the shrine and the candles were almost entirely melted from usage but it was still a clear shrine. Barqon had no idea what to assume, he decided to call the Elder of History back in the Azkayii Capital City.
"Elder, I wish to inform you of a discovery..."

)

"Remember the Kahkithqia shrines located all across the IOUS Union?" Baron asked the Elder, with the utmost formal and respectable tone
"Saerpa Korr selle Daerjae. (Yes, yes I do my child.)" The Elder replied in the Kanaq language which was widely spoken across the IOUS Union
"I've found one in Ixelonia, this should be... impossible! Ixelonia is a neighbour of Syrixia which is on the other side of the region!" Barqon spoke in a slightly more excited tone
"Gahnka! Hyrithae korr'sahl Uete Gankha! (You lie. That is impossible, you most definitely lie.)" The Elder replied cynically
"I- I can prove it, I'll take a picture." Barqon replied, quite insulted, as he took a picture of the shrine for his Elder
"Kihka! Kihka! Taermuul sarrk Nethe Cofeq'dooaer. (I apologise, I apologise. This is quite fascinating, this is a dead religion which only the archaeologists of the IOUS union truly know much about)" The Elder replied kindly. This entire matter was going to cause an international storm if gotten into the media's hands. That would be bad, many people would flood to Ixelonia in search of this single shrine, that would lead to many deaths. The natives were not kind people.

Upstairs...

Two Unknown Men peer into the house where Barqon sel Varrgh is conferring with the Elder of History.

Unknown Man 5: Ready? I hate kidnapping a fellow Azkayii but this guy can give us the answers we want.

Unknown Man 6: Yeah. Let's do this. Unknown Man will be impressed once we get this fool back to the mine.

The two men put on their masks and gloves, pull out their rifles and jump into the house, running down into the basement.

Unknown Man 5: BARQON SEL VARRGH! PUT YOUR HANDS UP! DO NOT TRY TO ESCAPE, OR ELSE!

Unknown Man 6: Yo, stop ranting and get that statue. I got the bag.

Unknown Man 5 walks calmly towards the statue and throws it in Unknown Man 6's bag, being sure to treat it without reverence or respect so as to upset sel Varrgh.

Unknown Man 6: Move it, sel Varrgh.

The three walk out of the house and get onto a pickup truck. sel Varrgh is stuffed into a large cage in the back, and the two Unknown Men get in the front. The truck drives off to Al-Odubei.

"That is very, very old. I'm not even sure how it got here. Throw it and it breaks, if it breaks, you can't sell it." Barqon said to the men as they just began to drive, the phone not having hung up yet. The Elder knew to keep quiet though.

The two Unknown Men hear Barqon faintly talking. They look at each other and then the car stops. One man gets out with his gun and opens the cage.

Unknown Man 6: Gimme that phone. I didn't say you could quack to your mommy.

Unknown Man 6 brutally snatches the phone and locks the cage back up. He then throws the phone down onto the ground. He gets into the car and the car begins to drive again.

Five minutes later...

John picks up the phone as he is done fixing Shona's arm. He studies it carefully and attempts to get in to see what he can find. Luckily, the phone had no password and he finds out whose phone it is.

John: Guys...Barqon sel Varggh must've been kidnapped...I found his phone on the ground!

Mickey: (Thinking) Perfect...those fools did as I requested in the deal. Soon I'll be rich!

(OOC: You realize being an archaeologist in Azkay is more like being in a creed. It is treated as such.)

One of the Praetors runs up to the Legatus...

Praetor: "Ma'am... Barqon sel Varggh has been kidnapped."

Legatus: "Shit... Call Celeste, report a Code Maroon emergency."

Praetor: "Are you sure that is wise?"

Legatus: "Yes... there is something suspicious going on and I'd rather go in on overkill mode than be under prepared."

Praetor: "Very well."

The Praetor grabs the sat phone and makes a call to Celeste.

Praetor: "Celeste, this is Aquila 3. I'm reporting a Code Maroon emergency. I repeat... Code Maroon."

Celeste: "Understood Aquila 3, Code Maroon acknowledged and on its way."

As the Praetor hangs up the phone, he shakes his head realizing everything is quickly going to hell. Another Praetor walks up to him.

Praetor 4: "Hey, is everything alright?"

Praetor 3: "Nope... Barqon sel Varggh was kidnapped and the Legatus ordered a Code Maroon."

Praetor 4: [shocked silence] "Well fuck, that can't be good."

Praetor 3: "No it isn't... here's hoping we don't have to elevate that emergency call to Code Rust."

Praetor 4: "Oh god no... I don't want to deal with the nightmare that Code Rust would bring..."

Praetor 3: "Same. If we do though, everything is going to fall apart."

The Legatus looks back at her two Praetors taking up the rear.

Legatus: "You two... quit chitchatting and be alert for hostiles."

Praetor 3/4: "Yes ma'am."

John: BARQON WAS KIDNAPPED AND YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT YOUR SHOES?!

Mickey: Both of you! Look!

Suddenly, a large group of 32 natives bound over a sand dune, spears and bows in hand...

(OOC: The fact the elder knows Barqon has been kidnapped is the perfect inclusion of the Azkayii you wanted, Syri)

(OOC: What do you mean? All the unknown men are members of an azkayii war group looking for riches to help their group. Didn't we talk about that? What is this "Azkayii you wanted"?)

Syrixia:
(OOC: What do you mean? All the unknown men are members of an azkayii war group looking for riches to help their group. Didn't we talk about that? What is this "Azkayii you wanted"?)
(OOC: There are many Azkayii groups. War groups, zealots, creeds, the government.)

(OOC: The Azkayiis featured here are a war group bent on total control of Azkay. There should be one like that lol. Isn't that why they're all fighting?)

The natives storm down the dune. War cries can be heard around the area. Mickey and John, as well as the others, take to the dune where they are as the natives charge, but Shona, still recovering, isn't fast enough and four arrows hit her back at point-blank range. The team watches in horror as Shona is torn apart by the natives' spears. Eventually, a couple of natives take the dismembered explorer and put her on a leather cot. Two natives take the cot away over the dune while the others charge at the dune the team is hiding under.

Mickey: Quick! Anyone who's armed, GET YOUR WEAPONS OUT!

John: We gotta get through this mob quickly, Al-Odubei is within visual range!

(OOC: Just letting you know, yes, this means Shona is actually dead. Lol. She isn't coming back. Well, at least, not alive she is. And also, from now on ALL OOC posts should be made in the drafting plane thread. I want this thread from now on to contain RP posts only until the RP is done.)

As Shona goes down, Lisia yells to a Praetor...

Lisia: "Fuck it, this situation is falling apart. Aquila 2! Call Celeste, elevate our situation to Code Rust."

Aquila 2 ducks from a spear thrown her direction before grabbing the sat phone.

Praetor/Aquila 2: "Celeste this is Aquila 2. Disregard Maroon, elevate Rust. We need FALCON support now!"

Celeste: "Understood. Rust received and acknowledged. FALCON dispatched, eta fifteen minutes."

As Aquila 2 hangs up the phone she relays the information to everyone. The Kaltians take defensive positions and wait for support. One of the natives throws a spear and manages to nick one of the Praetor's in the arm.

Praetor 1: "I'm fine, the spear just grazed my shoulder..."

Lisia: "Good, save your ammo but fire shots every now and then to keep the natives away."

As the Kaltians are crouched in defensive positions, Head Archaeologist Veldia runs over to Legatus Lisia...

Veldia: "Lisia, I hope you have a damn good plan of attack for getting us out of this mess."

Lisia: "I called in a Code Rust to Celeste. They should be here any minute now."

Veldia: "What the hell is Code Rust? And who is coming?"

Lisia: "A group of people these natives wish they had never met."

Veldia: "Oh for the love of the Goddess, are they part of Oiche na Ruin?"

Lisia: "I cannot disclose that information. Here they come now."

Fifteen minutes have passed since Aquila 2 made the call. FALCON has halo dropped two Merkismathr's with a contingent of ten Thegn's.

One of the Merkismathr's runs up to the Legatus.

Cytio: "Ma'am... we brought the portable ADS [active denial system] systems."

Lisia: "Good... Set them up in a defensive perimeter and start picking off the natives."

Cytio: "Yes ma'am."

The Legatus addresses the rest of the new arrivals.

Lisia: "As for the rest of you... Secure this site and tend to the wounded... both Kaltian and foreigner."

[As the ADS systems are set up and directed at the natives, the heat causes many to scatter and those foolish enough to try to attack are cut down quickly by the Thegn's.]

Suddenly, Mickey facepalms himself and picks up his phone.

*ring* *ring*

*ring* *ring*

Mickey: Hello? Is this the Syrixian Ministry of Defense?

Clerk: Yes, it is. Do you need something?

Mickey: Yes, this is Mickey Qalat, head archaeologist, Syrixian Institute of Archaeology. I'm sure you know of the mission to Ixelonia, right?

Clerk: Yes, sir. Is there a problem? Angry natives, mutinies, bandits?

Mickey: Just get me the Minister of Defense...

Clerk: Yes, sir.

*bzzt*

Auel: This is Auel Vist, Minister of Defense, Most Serene Republic of Syrixia. How may I assist you today?

Mickey: This is Mickey Qalat, head archaeologist, Syrixian Institute of Archaeology. You know where we are, sir. We're being attacked by a mob of 30 natives, and more are coming!

Auel: My father told me once about the native riots on Ixelonia's frontiers back in the colonial days, I can safely assume they're pretty rowdy, yet killing them won't do anything good for our reputation. Would you like an air taskforce to come over and capture them?

Mickey: YES, SIR! ANYTHING! SEND THEM!

Auel: Got it. Expect them in one and a half hours. In the meantime, try and hold them off for yourselves. They'll be flying as fast as they can. That said, good luck, and bye.

Mickey: Bye, sir; thanks.

The phone hangs up. Mickey goes back to hiding and falls asleep.

One and a half hours later...

John: WAKE UP, MICK! LOOK!

Mickey wakes up and is startled to see ten Syrixian planes flying over the battlefield, turrets firing. Paramilitary troops parachute down to take natives into custody. Around 9/10 of the remaining natives are captured and are put aboard a plane for a flight to the Syrixian military base in Augustus Town, Guslantis, and then a smooth ship ride back to Balamb. The team thanks the Syrixian and Kaltian military forces for their valiant stand and continues on. The team enters Al-Odubei.

Jacob got back into his helicopter. This was the wrong airport. What an embarrassment. He started his aircraft and headed for Kaaran.

[Cytio walks over to the Syrixians.]

Cytio: "Good to see the Syrixian air force show up. These ADS systems are effective and all but nothing beats a good old bombing. I'm sorry we couldn't get here earlier to ave Shona."

[Back at the Kaltian defensive position.]

Rosti: "Glad you boys and girls are safe. Looks like you were nearly overrun by angry natives."

Veldia: "You have no idea. Though, who exactly are you people?"

Rosti: "I'm sorry but that's top level classified information. What I can tell you is myself and Cytio are part of a rapid response halo drop squadron."

Veldia: "Well... Lisia seems to have a lot of confidence in you."

[Cytio walks back over.]

Cytio: "Is that so?"

[Lisia hears her name and joins the conversation.]

Lisia: "As much as I hate to admit it, yes."

Rosti: "Well then... now that we've tripled our security size shall we continue on to Al-Odubei?"

Veldia: "Of course."

[Veldia motions to the archaeologists to follow her and everyone heads into Al-Odubei.]

Mickey takes out his phone and turns on the encryption setting. He opens "Messaging".

-TEXT CONVERSATION-

Mickey: Hey. We're entering the city and I have the key. When we get in the mine, I'll throw you the key. Quickly, unlock the chest and throw it and the cage with sel Varrgh in it onto the rope elevator. I'll distract them so the elevator with the goods and sel Varrgh can get up to the helicopter. After the elevator goes up, hand me my money.

Unknown Man: Deal. Good luck.

John noticed Jacob, the Plembobrian archaeologist, and before he got into his helicopter John managed to tell him he was in the right place. Sort of.

The team, now including Jacob, finally came to the mine. Everyone was together at last, except Barqon sel Varrgh. The Unknown Men's identities were revealed. They were part of an Azkayii War Group, fighting for control of the Sultanate of Azkay, a nation in the I.O.U.S Union. Azkay was constantly fighting itself so its many war groups needed supplies and this one had apparently hit the jackpot.

Mickey: Shhhh. Quiet. Look down there.

The team looked down into the mine. At the bottom they could see the Azkayiis...doing nothing, like they were waiting. Barqon sel Varrgh was there too, in a cage.

Nia'sul dos Tharagoc: (Unknown Man) Ah. They're here. Let them in.

Azkayii War Group Soldier: Yes, sir. The gate is now open.

The Kaltians are the last to arrive at the mine and stay out of earshot of every other expedition.

Cytio: "Hold up. There are men down below at the mine and they aren't natives. Rosti, who do they look like to you?"

Rosti: "Azkayiis..."

Lisia: "That can't be right. The only people that should be here besides the expeditions are the savage natives."

Cytio: "Well shit. If they are grave robbers then we are walking straight into a trap..."

[Rosti has gotten out his binoculars.]

Rosti: "Lisia, be fucking glad you called us in."

Lisia: "Why's that?"

[Rosti hands Lisia the binoculars.]

Rosti: "Look down below at the cage."

Lisia: "Well that's just great... They have Barqon sel Varrgh in a cage."

Cytio: "Shit. Alright men [gesturing to the Thegn's], hand out the extra body armor we brought to the archaeologists. This could get messy and I don't want anyone getting gravelly injured."

[As the Thegn's pass out the body armor, Cytio and Rosti continue talking.]

Cytio: "How do you want to approach this?"

Rosti: "Well, it is clearly a trap... Someone here is a traitor and selling out their expedition."

Cytio: "So nice and slow then? Pretend that nothing is amiss and take out the unknowns at the opportune moment?"

Rosti: "Sounds good. Keep the archaeologists in the middle back with the Thegn's and Praetor's surrounding them. You and I will take point."

Cytio: "Oh, put through an encrypted message to Celeste. See if they can trace any encrypted calls from this area that do not belong to us."

Rosti: "Already on it."

[Once the Kaltians are set up, they head down into the mine.]

While the Kaltians, with the rest of the team behind them, are descending the spiral ramp down into the mine, Mickey gets out the key and a parachute. He quickly straps himself in and parachutes down.

Mickey: Screw it. Gimme my money later. They have more guards than we thought!

Nia'sul: Got it!

Nia'sul unlocks the chest and throws it onto the elevator. Mickey hops on the elevator. By the time the Kaltians arrive at the bottom of the mine, the elevator carrying Barqon, Mickey and the unlocked loot chest has reached the helicopter.

Mickey's conspiracy would've gone so well, had there not been a force waiting for the elevator at the top...

(OOC: Next poster has the force be of their military. I hope it's Plemby since they know the land as well as Syrixia, but we'll see.)

As Mickey reaches the top of the elevator shaft, he is met by a some Celeste agents and soldiers dressed in black [Oiche na Ruin, rest of the squad of the two commanders down below].

Mickey: "Where the hell did you people come from?"

Sinsearach Verstand Praefectus: "Well, the guys in black [Oiche na Ruin] are the rest of the unit that's down below. They did two halo drops, one to secure the archaeology team and the other to clear the perimeter and keep any natives from descending to the mine. As for me? I'm the liason for the archaeology team back to headquarters. I halo dropped in with a few other Verstand's after a Code Rust was issued."

Edit: OOC Note: Oiche na Ruin units always contain ten soldiers plus one or two commanders. On the ground to secure the archaeology team were two commanders each with five soldiers under their command, the other ten (five each) are now being introduced here.

Mickey: Oh....s@#%.

Mickey dashes for the helicopter with the chest, leaving sel Varrgh behind.

Nia'sul: HEY! GET BACK WITH THAT CHEST! YOU SAID WE'D SPLIT IT EVENLY!

Mickey: Sorry. You should've known I'm a lying, cheating scumbag. Now, though, I'm a RICH lying, cheating scumbag! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

The helicopter flies off. Mickey opens the chest, and finds it's stuffed with C4. Before he can react, the helicopter explodes in a fiery display of heat...

Nia'sul: Hah. More like a DEAD lying, cheating scumbag.

Nia'sul turns around holding a bag with the loot stuffed into it. He doesn't get away though, a Kaltian rifle is pointed at his head.

OOC Note: The Kaltian soldiers (Oiche na Ruin) would never have let Mickey make it to the helicopter. They have a shoot to cripple/kill order and in the event of someone fleeing like that, they'd cripple that person. Just for future reference...

OOC: I know, I just did that for the explosion :3 I'll let you do the post where the Azkayiis are arrested and/or possibly deported to Azkay and then I'll wrap the RP up so we can focus on Cronaal's RP.

Archaeologist Alison Morgan: Well... that was interesting. I think I'll be going home now. Could anyone call in a helicopter escort to the airport?

(OOC: Good. The story's over and it's about time we end it.)

(OOC: That said, there will be a pseudo-part 2...)

(OOC: That's going to be part of the end post. If Kalti doesn't post by 5 PM tomorrow I'll do it myself.)

As the helicopter explodes, the Kaltians rush the Azkayiis and quickly overpower them.

Cytio:[calling on his radio] "Sinsearach Verstand Praefectus Lavoi, come in... we have the Azkayiis rounded up. What do you recommend?"

Lavoi: "Leave Rosti, Lisia and a few soldiers down at the mine so the archaeologists can continue the dig. Bring everyone else up top, we'll be waiting."

Soon after, Cytio arrives at the top of the mine with the Azkayiis and his half of the OnR soldiers.

Lavoi: "So these are the grave robbers..."

Cytio: "Yes ma'am. What should we do with them?"

Lavoi: "Arrest them and throw them into the Tenebris Prison for now. Ardal Tri will export them to Azkay once this whole expedition has been wrapped up."

John turns to the Plembobrian archaeologist and gives him a long brown box, containing the Plembobrian soldier's body.

John: Here, I figured you'd need this. Both of my fellow archaeologists are dead, and we have the chest, so we may as well start the trek home before any angry natives find us. The Air Force managed to land a bunch of small planes in the airport here, so we should be able to go back to Balamb International for flights to our respective homelands.

Two days later...

Alfred: ATTENTION!

The crowd gathering in front of Balamb's massive Parliament Hall complex were greeted by the Prime Minister himself.

Alfred: I would like to come out here and personally announce that the riches of Ixelonia have been found and extracted, and they will be on display in time for the Uthvaq Shanar celebrations!

The crowds cheer.

Meanwhile, somewhere in uptown Balamb...

Righty: Ya hear that, Lefty? We gots a job to pull off very soon! We're gonna be RICH!
