-RETURN TO IXELONIA-
OOC Thread: http://forum.thenorthpacific.org/topic/7326939/5/#new

The Invasion of Ixelonia was perhaps the most important battle in modern Syrixian history. It ended with a stalemate and the emigration of their people to other regions. It also led to a massive uprising after the invasion was suppressed by an intervention staged by various Democratic Union member nations.

Long after the Ixelonians left, Ixelonia and its cities have become derelict and abandoned. The Nursson administration has commissioned an exploration of what was once Ixelonia in the center of the main continent of the North Pacifican archipelago, in the middle of a small desert filled with gold and oil. This exploration will be conducted by multiple nations.

In the time of the absence of civilization from Ixelonia, hostile hunter-gatherer tribes have moved into the region and are fighting over resources left by the Ixelonians, however most desirable is the Al-Odubei Gold Mine. Filled with riches beyond one's imagination, this is the main loot hotspot.

The exploration team will land in the abandoned domestic airport of Kaaran, the old capital of Ixelonia, and make its way to Al-Odubei and the gold mine to extract the riches and bring them back to Balamb to be separated amongst the nations who took part.

The exploration team is made up of the following individuals:

Cascadia:
Archaeologist Alison Morgan

Azkay:
Barqon sel Varrgh

Kalti:
Kaltian Head Archaeologist Veldia
Legatus Lisia
4 Archaeologists
4 Praetors

Sadakoyama:
Professor Kendrick
Other archaeologists

Nessuno:
Archaeologist Henry Jones Jr.

Syrixia:
Syrixian Head Archaeologist Mickey Qalat
Archaeologist Shona Huiqour
Assistant John Chahak

If any other nations would like to send archaeologists please state so here, and they should arrive in Balamb in a day or so when the team assembles.

(OOC: This has been in planning for two-three weeks now, let's do this! At last!)

One day later...

Mickey Qalat stepped into the Parliament Hall Complex in Balamb. The Prime Minister had decreed this is where the exploration team would meet.

Shona Huiqour and John Chahak, Mickey's personal assistants and advisors, were already there waiting for him. The three were childhood friends, and this would help them lead the operation.

Now, they had to wait for the rest of the explorers to arrive...

Cascadian Archeologist Alison Morgan greets the Syrixians at Parliament Hall Complex in Balamb. As they wait for the rest of the explorers, they exchange conversations on the expedition.

(OOC: This is an RP done by characters, not international messages. Could you make a post where Alison greets the Syrixians and converses on the expedition so we can show people a simpler explanation of the RP?)

"Hello, Ms. Morgan!" Says Mickey to Alison. "We're on an expedition to Ixelonia; an old ruined land Syrixia used to own. However, it's been abandoned after a war and we're going to salvage it. There are reports of great treasures there."

"And leave them there would be a real shame" Says Henry Jones Jr. entering the room and sitting down "Not to mention that they would be better off in a museum" .

"Agreed. So all we need now to begin are the Kaltians and the Azkayii, Mr. sel Varrgh."

"Well Lisia, this should be quite an adventure. What do you think of this airport?"

"I don't like it, something does not feel right..."

"Too true, well... we best be off to meet with everyone else."

"Lead the way, the Praetors and I are here for your safety and the safety of the archaeologists."

The Kaltian group enters the room and quietly sits down.

"Ah! Welcome!" says Qalat to the Kaltians. "I trust you had a safe flight? We should be ready to go once Barqon sel Varrgh arrives, though if he doesn't arrive soon we should probably go without him; we can arrange a plane for him if he's late."

"Plus," Shona adds, "something just doesn't feel right...like we need to get to Ixelonia quickly..."

(OOC: I'm reusing this text for something else because I liked the characters and want to use them. If this is even canon just assume there was a Sadakhan expedition here and they left)

(OOC: Guys, don't worry about Piscivore's post. Rather than causing more issues, I can make it work.)

The rest of the explorers step out of their planes. It is approximately one day later, and the explorers are traversing the ruined, sandy capital city of Kaaran.

Mickey: This is it. This is where a group of Imperial troops shot into the artificial bush right here and killed at least ten innocent, neutral Ixelonian citizens...

Mickey points to an artificial bush right next to where Professor Kendrick of Sadakoyama is standing.

Shona: My mother was my age when Syrixia attempted to annex Ixelonia by force...she told me what the newscasters reported. The city of Kaaran was quickly captured but the rebels held out in the more desolate regions. They probably would've been subject to a massive genocide if the Democratic Union hadn't stepped in...

John: It's a good thing our government is less imperio-fascist now...

Shona: Hey! Everyone! Kaltians, Sadakhs, Mr. Jones, Ms. Morgan! John! Mickey! I found something!

Shona peers down a small ditch. There is what looks like a skeleton in a Plembobrian uniform piled on top of a skeleton in an Ixelonian uniform, with what looks to be a tattered turban by his side. The Plembobrian skeleton has in its hand what appears to be a map, which correlates Kaaran and the jackpot city- Al-Odubei.

Syrixia:
(OOC: Guys, don't worry about Piscivore's post. Rather than causing more issues, I can make it work.)
(OOC: If it is going to be problematic I can delete it and you can pretend it never happened. I'm used to RP in a narrative, storytelling mode like that.)

(OOC: From a reader's perspective, Piscivore's post is the most interesting in the thread so far, and was the most entertaining work in the thread. It would be wise from my point of view to welcome this class of posts.)

Ms. Morgan: "Shona, If the map has a connection with the jackpot city, a thorough examination should be in order. I'm a little confused about the Plembobrian skeleton. Maybe I am just not entirely familiarized with the story of The Invasion of Ixelonia.

(OOC: I was a noob when I made the invasion of Ixelonia RP so there was a lot of godmodding. I, thus, generally consider it as a bad part of Syrixian history. Even without godmodding, though, it was a horrible event, IC-speaking.)

Mickey nods reassuringly to Ms. Morgan. Not many non-Syrixians knew about the invasion, as it lasted for a very short time.

Mickey: I'll explain, Ms. Morgan. Back in the days of the Syrixian Empire, the nation had a puppet state called Ixelonia, which occupied these gold-rich deserts. Emperor Senlok II, the last Emperor, moved to annex the land. Syrixia joined the Axis in World War II and was right between the powerful United States and their enemies in Japan. Thus, they were easy targets for the US and lost the war quickly. Syrixia dropped out of the war in 1944.

John: Ixelonians were fed up with the Syrixian monopoly over their nation, and this attempt at annexation pushed them over the edge. They appealed to the Kingdom of Plembobria for assistance and Plembobria obliged. However, the Democratic Republic of Tomb decided to help Syrixia and the nations agreed that they would split the country evenly after they won the war in Ixelonia. After the north of Ixelonia as well as the western strip and the city of Kaaran itself were all conquered, the rebels holed up in Al-Odubei and Plembobria dropped a bomb on the attacking Tombian-Syrixian troops. That's when the DU stepped in, and both sides ceased fighting.

Mickey: After the DU-monitored peace agreement, the Ixelonians packed up and left the region for a new life. Rumor has it they emigrated to the dominions of the New Pacific Order. As for Syrixia, this combined with the United States' presence after World War II ended led to a communist revolution, and the rest is history. The Syrixian REPUBLIC itself is young, having been established from the People's Republic of Syrixia in 2006.

Shona: Ey, could we end the history lessons and get back to this map?

Mickey nods and hands the map to the Sadakhs for examination as Shona and John motion the others to help salvage the bodies.

Mickey: Alright, the access code to our historical archives is 14876437643C74888743V7434973487643764376. I've sent it to your phone so you remember it.

As Mickey turns around, an arrow flies out of nowhere and hits Shona in the head.

John: !!!ZHUZHAZARAK ?ZHEZHEINOZHIIQA
(Translation from Maakani: HOLY ****!!! WHO DID THAT?)

As John rushes to Shona, who is now bleeding and unconscious, Mickey spots the disputed power station and fuel depot. The team has wandered into Kaaran's industrial district and they're now caught in the middle of a tribal war.

Mickey: DUCK!

A group of seven barely clothed, bow-wielding men suddenly charges at another group of eight similar-looking men who are charging back. The team ducks behind a pile of moss and garbage.

As the two native groups charge at each other, Legatus Lisia and her four Praetors take up defensive positions with guns drawn. Head Archaeologist Veldia also has her gun drawn.

Lisia: "Veldia! I told you I had a bad feeling about this..."

[Before the Legatus can say more, she fires a shot into the ground near the natives to scare them off and deter them from coming closer.]
[One of the Praetors runs over to the archaeologists.]

Praetor: "There is nothing to worry about. We called back home to Celeste of Ardal Tri and they assigned us temporary use of one of their satellites. We have eyes in the sky and full coverage of enemy positions around us."

Veldia: "Really Praetor... And why was I not informed of this decision?"

Praetor: "Ma'am, you are the team leader but on matters of security we defer to Lisia."

Veldia: "Very well."

Veldia: "Lisia! I'm glad that we have Celeste involved, should make it easier to deal with any hostiles."

Lisia: "Yes ma'am. We should proceed with caution despite the satellite coverage."

Mickey, while ducking behind the pile, realizes something his superiors told him before they left...

Mickey: Oh, I forgot; the government high-ups told me before we left that this city's biggest power station, which is right across from us and what the natives are fighting over, may or may not be an old nuclear bomb assembly factory. It contributed greatly to the buildup of Syrixia's nuclear arsenal, and there may be some abandoned bombs left in there...

At that moment, a native arrow flies into the abandoned factory. There is a flash of light, and everyone gets pounded with blindingly hot heat.

Alison shields herself from the explosion by ducking under the moss and garbage. After the blast clears, she turns to the others.

Ms. Morgan: Is everyone alright?

She looks down at her arm and sees that it was injured in the explosion. She notices she can't hear out of her right ear.

(OOC: I won't go into detail about her arm. I'm sure you get the picture...)

Alison turns her attention to Shona, who is still bleeding. She looks up at Mickey.

Ms. Morgan: Will she be alright? We should call in a medic, if possible.

Mickey and John get up and dust themselves off.

Mickey: Just as I feared! I SAW IT MYSELF! A native arrow flew into the factory and hit in just the right place...

John gets up and is horrified at what he sees. Dead bodies of the natives are strewn across the area and there is smoke in the air.

John: It isn't safe here. We need to get to Al-Odubei. Bring what salvaged items you can, especially that map. And put Shona on some sort of towel, or cot. We can carry her while we figure out how to fix her head up. That arrow did a nasty wound.

Meanwhile, in the Al-Odubei gold mine...

Unknown Man: Keep digging! We have to find that buried treasure before those Syrixians and their cronies get here!

Another Unknown Man: Yes, sir!

Syrixia:

OOC: A few post ago, Shona was hit in the head by an arrow. How could she be talking...

(OOC: Right. Editing. Also, could you post to progress the story instead of me? I wanna see what you think up.)

As the explosion clears, there is shouting among the Praetors checking that everyone is alright. Once secure, one of the Praetors manages to get a call thru to Celeste and then hands the sat phone to the Legatus.

Lisia: "Celeste, come in Celeste... this is Legatus Lisia... I am declaring a code five emergency..."

Celeste/Ardal Tri: "Legatus, this is Celeste of Ardal Tri... we read you loud and clear. We have you on sat imagery. Do you require medical evac?"

Lisia: "The Kaltian group is a little shook up but we are fine otherwise... One of the Cascadians was injured... and a few among the Syrixians..."

Celeste/Ardal Tri: "Understood, we have authorization from the Intelligence Director to utilize Oiche na Ruin..."

As the Legatus hangs up the sat phone, Veldia comes over.

Veldia: "Was that Celeste on the phone?"

Lisia: "It was."

Veldia: "Well, what did they say?"

Lisia: "They have additional measures standing by and are tracking us via sat imagery."

Veldia: "Well shit, this situation has certainly gone to hell."

Lisia: "You have no idea... Celeste has been authorized to call upon Oiche na Ruin in the event we need additional security or a medical evac."

Veldia: "You've got to be kidding me! They want to use Oiche na Ruin to rescue a group of archaeologists if we get in over our head?"

Lisia: "Apparently so."

Veldia: "Well, that's just great. I'd never live that one down if I have to be rescued by Oiche na Ruin while on an expedition."

Lisia: "Heh. And we haven't even made it to the Al-Odubei gold mine yet."

Veldia: "This gold mine better be damn worth it..."

The Kaltians gather up their group and belongings and start making the trek with the rest of the foreign expedition groups towards Al-Odubei.
As they start the trek, two of the Praetors start talking between each other.

Praetor 1: "I don't trust the Cascadians..."

Praetor 2: "I don't trust the Syrixians..."

Praetor 1: "Really? Despite the fact that they our ally?"

Praetor 2: "Sure, that's the official record. Think about it, this is an old war zone that Syrixians fought in. They know the ground and layout, perfect place for an ambush..."

Praetor 1: "Eh, you might be paranoid but it is a good idea to keep an open mind about the foreigners. This is hostile territory and friend to no one here. And the Cascadians... we just recently opened an embassy with them, they haven't gotten much of a chance to prove themselves as dependable allies."

Praetor 2: "Very true. Best we keep an eye of everyone for any suspicious activity."

Meanwhile back at Ardal Tri, Celeste intercepts a phone call between Alison Morgan and an unknown party. Due to static in the interception, the entire message comes through slightly garbled. The Intelligence Director decides to mark it as important but dismisses it as being vital to the safety of the Kaltian expedition on the ground.

OOC Note about the characters I'm playing as:
Head Archaeologist Veldia and Archaeologists - Kaltian Archaeological Society
Legatus Lisia and Praetors - Kaltian Defense Forces, Reserves (Military)

Due to the nature of my team's security, they have communication with Celeste which is the military intelligence branch of my nation.
Depending on how the story evolves I may or may not utilize Oiche na Ruin which is a special forces unit of my nation's military.

Back on the desert path...

Shona: Ugggghhuuuurhhrrrhhhhhgggg....

Mickey and John immediately turn around and look at the cot a cou

Mickey: Bloody stars! She's awake! Don't move, Shona, you've got a-

John: Don't tell her! We need to make sure she's calm so we can get that arrowhead out of her arm.

Shona: BLOODY STARS, THERE'S A JUB'UY-ING ARROWHEAD IN MY ARM?!

As John continues working on Shona's arm, the team keeps walking on the path...

Meanwhile, in the mine...

Unknown Man 3: Hey! I think I've found something!

(OOC: I wanted the unknown men to be the rebels looking for riches to finance the projects to build weapons and stuff so they could fight the Yarrvaer; or perhaps some other reason.)

(OOC: As for sel Varrgh, you can post on what he says anytime. He's walking with us.)

(OOC: I'll start off by walking through the city. I could've walked away from a group at some point)

Barqon sel Varrgh walked through one of the streets, it was beyond beautiful to a trained eye. The perfect erosion and rubble of the empty, abandoned buildings created an almost-picturesque feel to the area, as if he were inside a movie or a painting. His light blue eyes looked around the area slowly, he wasn't just marveling at the beauty of the destruction around him but he was also interested in the geographical prospective of the area and what small, slight bumps could lead to some of the most valuable items but more so the beauty. Barqon could not but to enter one of the buildings, so he did. He entered a home, which dust everywhere and old, filthy items shoved up to the walls including mattresses, sofas and chairs. The sun beamed and glistened through a small hole in the wall, which he could see beautiful dust dancing and flying around in the sunlight, he put his finger into it and saw the sunlight reflect off his small, brown, leather glove which he wore on his hands to keep them clean from dust and dirt. It reminded him of his childhood home, a slum in Eastern Bearkia'tohn, which was always covered in filth and always messy and damaged. The many civil wars of Azkay were never ending, there was always one Baron wanting to kill the other or some religious extremist group trying to 'cleanse' a village, that was what this city reminded Barqon of.

Back in the Mine...

Unknown Man: What did you find? Is it those riches we need to help fight the other Azkayii War Groups?

Unknown Man 3: I'm not sure, I can't see it exactly.

Unknown Man 2: Oh, let me see. You're freakin' blind.

Unknown Man: Tell me what you see.

Unknown Man 2: It's as you said, sir...I see a trunk that looks like it's full of stuff.

Unknown Man: Lift it up.

Unknown Man 3: SUMMON THE APPARATUS!

Unknown Man 4: SUMMON THE APPARATUS!!!

A small crane is driven down into the mine. The line lowers into the hole dug by Unknown Man 3. Unknown Man 4 gets in and pulls up the trunk. A keyhole comes into view, and no key is anywhere to be seen. Unknown Man commissions the attempted opening of the chest. As he thought, it's locked.

Meanwhile, on the Desert Path...

Mickey: Hey, what's this?

Mickey picks up an old, withered key. Meanwhile, John is working on Shona's arm.

Shona: Keep that key with you; but we got more important problems on our hands. It's...uncharacteristically quiet around here...and hey, WHERE'S SEL VARRGH?!

John: Oh, zhwerzhezhiiq! We must have left him in the city! Hopefully he'll catch up to us, I have the feeling something bad will happen to him if he's alone in the city...

(OOC: Cronaal, I have an idea. How about the Unknown Men *cough cough* kidnap sel Varrgh? We could make a crossover between this and Operation Pigletville.)

(OOC: Operation Pigletville is going to end very, very soon. As I said, they're only task was Cronaal so they'd have no reason.)

(OOC: Well, can we still incorporate them? If we do, I'll give the Unknown Men characters' character sovereignty to you.)

Syrixia:
(OOC: Well, can we still incorporate them? If we do, I'll give the Unknown Men characters' character sovereignty to you.)
(OOC: As earlier mentioned, Azkay is at constant battle with itself. Those men can be soldiers of one of the Azkayii war groups looking for something in Ixelonia. They're seemingly quite similar, even their geography as they're both arid deserts.
