The Third Time Is The Charm

I have been in the region near 6 months. I really love this region, I love debating the merit of law, I love our beloved Constibillocode, and I want to protect her as well as defend the criminal code.

I have passion and I have conviction.

As top prosecutor I would look at our esteemed RA members and find a few that have a strong basis in TNP law and ask them to come on board as Assistant Prosecutors (I have no specific person in mind at this time)

And I would be active and agressive in investigating and pursuing complaints.

Though I want to prosecute cases, I believe the accused deserve fair treatment and are innocent until proven guilty, and as a Prosecutor your job is to prosecute and get convictions, above all I feel it is nessicary for the truth to win out. I believe a justice system works best when people are given fair treatment and a fair trial, so unlike other candidates I will not be trying to force the Justices to render convictions, that is improper. It is the role of the court to present facts not automatic condemnation of the accused.

The Prosecutor should present facts and represent the state.

Defense counsel is to counter arguments and present an alternative theory if possible.

And the Justices are to weigh those facts and arguments and make the best decision possible.

Unlike at least one of my opponets, I would not seek to be Judge, Jury, and Executioner.

As I said I have been in the region near 6 months and have tried to gain experience in as many areas as possible. I served as Election commissioner in the May General Elections, a Deputy Speaker in the Regional Assembly, a Deputy Minister, and Assistant AG. I have also served with distinction in the North Pacific Army -- been on various operations earning badges and being promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

To those that want to say I am only trying to "go for a royal flush" and title collect:

When I first got here, and in April when I was first nominated for the AGs race, I became very interrested in the office and decided I would try my best to get elected to it.

Since then there was a application to sign up as a Deputy Speaker, being new, I thought it would give me an opptunity to better learn the laws and procedures of the RA as well as give me experiences in the government.

When Delegate r3n got elected his MoHA choice asked me to be a deputy cabinet - I accepted, again thinking getting experience in the executive would be worthwile as well as it would be exicting to get in on the ground floor of a new ministry.

Finally Former AG Treize around the time elections were to be concluded asked me if I wanted to be an assistant to get some experience if I wanted the AG office so badly for myself. Persumably it was because of the tough campaign I ran previously -
Here.

I simply took what opportunities that were available to me at that moment. There was no ulterior motive to collect titles, only to gain experience in the government.

Once again I am taking an available opportunity to gain experience in the government of TNP, So this Special Election for AG I would appreciate it if you would consider voting for me. Thank you.

As assistant AG what cases did you help prosecute? What makes you a better candidate than me?

So far there have been zero complaints offically filed from what I can see in the AGs office. Treize was working on something but I do not know how far he got. He told me he would have kept me aprised of the situation and once or if he filed an indictment we would have discussed it futher. If elected I would contact Treize and attempt to gain any case files he may have buit up.

As far as how I could be better than you. I am sure you could do a good job if you set your mind to it, however you seem set on REgression whereas I would like PROgress.

Wow. Never saw this coming.
Seeing as how you nominated me Mr. Flemingovia, I am surprised at this statement.
Not really. many people are nominated who decline their nomination. Some nominations are more speculative than realistic.

If you want to look at it that way, you can't very well do anything if no one submits a complaint to review. You can't make people commit crimes or thumb their nose at the criminal code :P

When I first came to TNP Kiwi was the AG and for that month or so before the next election when Chas was elected I did not see any movement out of the AGs office - I am sure if someone had submitted a complaint he would have reviewed it.

Aside from prosecuting back logged cases from H&H and JAL I did not see much movement from Chas AGs office again, if there had been a serious complaint I am sure it would have been addressed.

In the month Treize had been AG just recently there have been no criminal complaints submitted to the complaint docket. Again if there had been we would have investigated.

It goes to show we have had stong people in the AGs office and TNPers have been scared to cross the criminal code while those strong people have had the office of top prosecutor.

High falutin ideals about integrity, passion, justice, blah blah.. ad nauseum, are all well and good, but it's just window dressing. What I'm curious about is:

1. Given that you've served in multiple government positions, do you think you can maintain an arm's length distance to previous and/or current colleagues if/when legal matters arise?

*aside* Even if you are 'title-collecting', so what? Scores of people here make note of their positions held, both current and retired. :eyeroll:

2. Do you feel your lack of experience arguing the Law is a hindrance? Granted, there is very little activity in the AG's Office, but I suppose you can hire a crack legal team (as it were).

3. Can you describe your mindset if elected AG, in one word?

4. How do you like your eggs? Believe me, this is important. :P

Lets take these one at a time.

#1 Given that you've served in multiple government positions, do you think you can maintain an arm's length distance to previous and/or current colleagues if/when legal matters arise?

Short answer Yes.

Longish answer - While I would like to consider myself friends with all TNPers. We are a family. And yes Family members squable from time to time.
Despite who I consider a friend or a colleague; If a criminal complaint were submitted regardless of how I personally felt about the accused rather on friendly terms or not I would take the complaint seriously and investigate it and prosecute and do my job. And hope at the end of the day if I ever had to prosecute a "friend" they would respect me for doing my job and keeping the integrity of the AGs office in tact.

#2Do you feel your lack of experience arguing the Law is a hindrance? Granted, there is very little activity in the AG's Office, but I suppose you can hire a crack legal team (as it were).
I touched on this during my last campaign when McMasterdonia asked me about lack of experience and polish in writing arguments. link.

I obviously do not feel much has changed in a month. So I would seek out veteran players of a legal mindset and look at past positions such as if they have ever served as AG previously or in the prosecutors office, on the bench, if they frequently submit articulate briefs to the court to consider in reviews. And see if anyone of that nature would be willing to come on board and assist. As I said in my previous campaign thread I would creat an Assistant AG Application thread and vet and consider any applicant who showed intrest. It could be a veteran player on a newer player with passion (extra consideration taken to past TNP legal experience) I feel surrounding myself with top legal talent of 2 or 3 additional prosecutors and working on cases together as a team will help to overcome any lack of experience or professional short comings on my part.

#3 Can you describe your mindset if elected AG, in one word?

Constitutional

#4 How do you like your eggs?

Firstly I perfer "Farm Fresh" eggs from our own happy hens and not that store bought mass produced stuff -- unless it is a last resort or we go out for breakfast and are subject to it.

Secondly - I like my eggs anyway except sunny side up. Over easy, over medium, scrambled, in an omlet. Depending in my mood and craving that morning. If I had to choose one way it would be thus: scrambled with Ketchup. Everything is better with ketchup.

Thank you for the questions Falap.

PWL42:
Thank you for the questions Falap.
Sure. It's important the electorate have some insight into the candidates vying for the demanding, and high-profile portfolio that is the AG's Office. ;)

PWL42:

Even though you waffled (mmm.. waffles) a bit on your choice, this answer is acceptable to me. Had you chosen this option, I would've had no choice but to declare you a subversive.. and subsequently spent every waking moment running you out of TNP.

Just to be clear, you think that the results of trials in TNP's history have been indicative of GOOD WORK DONE BY AG's?

I think that past AGs were elected by the people to do a job. And I am sure past AGs done what they thought was a good job at the time. It is easy to look in hindsight and judge someone and say "well they could have done this differently or that or this could have been better." It is not my place to look back and critique only to look toward the future and try my best to do my part for the betterment of TNP. Could they have done a better job? I am sure if you thought about we could all always do a better job. There is always room for improvement. No one is perfect.

Since one of your opponents in this election is indeed perfect, and has prior experience of being involved in cases in the legal system here, why would you say that voters should pick you?

Because I do not stand for regression or the same elite group of players that constantly get elected to positions over and over again. I also do not represent the minority of those perfect players with shark avatars who are very agressive raiders but with a soft spot for chess who trolls elections in the name of regression and purging the region every election.

I would like to be the people's champion. Outside of TNP insider politics, not in the elite circle. I want to be the non-establishment candidate who represents the people of this fine region.

You're running for AG not delegate...

Yes the Chief Law Enforcer of the region.

People think the justices are all power, they are important but in the end they are mere mediators who hear the facts and makes the best decision possible.

It is the AGs job to Police and ultimately bring law breakers to the courts

Mall:

Ah yes. Humility.. another fine AG quality. Oh, and honesty too.

The jury's still out on the best decision part, but 'mere mediators' deserves a  for bravado alone.

Having stated an unwillingness to pander to the elite ( ) inner circle, does that mean you will prosecute anyone without regard to influence and/or political affiliation?

@Olvern: I've been sigged! An honor (dubious perhaps, but nevertheless.. )

"Having stated an unwillingness to pander to the elite ( ) inner circle, does that mean you will prosecute anyone without regard to influence and/or political affiliation?"

Yes. If there is a complaintant to file a criminal complaint and there is enough evidence or an investigation can be fruitful in resulting in an indictment. Yes I would take all complaints seriously as I said previously, and if a crime against TNP had been comitted I would do my best to present it to the court, no matter who the accused was or how inner or outer circle they may or may not be. No one should be above the law in TNP.

I like that you have made campaign advertisements. We don't see that very often any more.

If you could be a character out of any movie or book, what would you choose and why?

Do you prefer white or dark rum?

To what extent do you think the Attorney General should be involved with the executive government?

Thank you for these questions McMasterdonia.

Firstly, if I could be any character from a movie or book: There are a lot of choices I could pick. The first one that instantly popped up in my mind in my favorite modern day fictional detective -- I would choose to be Harry Bosch from author Michael Connelly

Why?

Firstly Detective Bosch is a very adept decective and believes in followimg the facts of the case whereever it may lead. He has a strong sense of right and wrong and for getting justice for homicide victims. His oft used phrase is "everybody counts or nobody counts" which means he will work hard as he can to bring a suspect to justice no matter if it is a city councilman or some runaway that winds up in the wrong place at the wrong time in LA.

Bosch is often at odds with Authority figures be it his Lieutenant or Assistant Chief of Police - they are oft to be politcal when it comes to investigations and want to make statistics they try to tell Bosch that some cases are more important then others. Bosches hunt for the truth at all costs is often times at odds with his superiors desires to play politics.
-----

2. Rum - I will not turn down a free drink no matter what kind of alcohol used. All rum is good rum. Though I would have to say Dark Rum just because it is the rum I am most used to.
-----

3. I feel the AG should operate outside of "politics" and focus on making sure the criminal code has not been violated. I feel it is best if an AG in the role as AG have little involvement with the Executive unless the executive is asking for their legal opinion or the state is on trial somehow as an AG is not only top prosecutor but also represents the State (government) so if the Executive isnt asking for the AGs legal opinion and the AG is not litigating for the Executive then I feel otherwise an AG should probably hsve little to no involvement. I feel it important for our AG office to remain independent of politics and focus on the truth and prosecuting complaints.

Good answers. The first in particular seems very in line with your campaign (probably why it stood out to you). I haven't read that book, but I'll have to check that out.

I like your thinking where the rum is concerned. Though personally, I think I prefer white rum. A fair response on the last point as well. Good luck in the election :)

Thank you to those that voted for me. I really appreciate the vote of confidence you have given me. It shows that you value someone who shows the desire to want to do a good job. -- or maybe it was luck due to the weak candidate pool. Regardless, I will do my best to uphold truth, integrity and law and order while serving as Attorney General til the next eclection in October.

Currently there seems to be an issue regarding how a certain vote should be counted or not. AG results -- It means the difference between getting to take my oath as AG and a run off election. I value honesty above personal gain. So am curious to the Election Commissioner answering the question that Mr. Flem has brought up. Hopefully it can be answered and resolved soon so as not to create a prolonged vacancy in the Office of AG.

Edit: I feel the EC has answered this question satisfactory
