Vote Treize Dreizehn

Are you at all happy with the current state of the TNP Judicial System?

Are you happy with months long trials that end not so much with a bang, but with a whimper?

Are you happy with people using the court to settle personal feuds?

Are you happy with Justices that promise you a change from the status quo and then fail to deliver?

TNP has a tradition of openness and acceptance. It is a vibrant community, filled with some of the best legal minds in the entirety of Nationstates. And yet, the whole system seems flawed. I'm tired of hearing lolTNPcourt jokes. There's no reason why our system of justice has to continue to be overly complicated. There is little point to our system of justice being a black hole into which all issues, arguments, and laws eventually funnel.

A court is supposed to make government administration easier, not harder. A legal system is supposed to solve problems, not make more of them.

A lot of this is going to have to start with our laws, and start with us in the RA. Should trials be shorter? Yes. The process itself will require significant retooling in order for that to be a successful endeavor. Because while shorter trials are a goal, we have to ensure their fairness at the same time. In my opinion, section 3.3 needs a revamp. This isn't Real Life (patent pending), and we need to examine if the steps it has outlined, in the exact order it is outlined, are the best solution for a forum government prosecuting crimes.

There are good and bad ways to do this, but it will take the entire RA working together (which I assure you is not at all the forlorn hope it appears to be) to come to a final decision on how to solve these problems.

As for what I'll do personally as justice, beyond pushing for these reforms: I'll keep up the level of activity that I've had in all the positions I've ever held. I always pay attention. You won't have to worry about a Judge Dreizehn going on an unannounced (or even announced) leave of absence. I will be here, interpreting the law, helping in any way I am able to ensure that the courts run smoothly, and finally (and most importantly) making damn sure that justice is served.

Now, I imagine some of you have questions?

Shoot. (which given the expected tenor of the questions, may be an apropos term).

Treize Dreizehn.

Why is the title of your thread so ordinary? Do you feel there is any room for creativity in a campaign for a role-playing game? Have you considered that an apparent lack of creativity may be why most of the people here come across as petulant man-children, so inured to western rationalist thought that they have no awareness of the teat on which they suckle? (Had to work teat in there somewhere)

Lord Byron:
Would you be recusing yourself from the Judicial Review here on the legality of your admittance to the RA?
Due to the unavoidable conflict of interest, I feel I would have no choice but to recuse myself form that case.

You have failed to answer any of my questions, solely for that reason you will lose. :)

Edit: Just logged into the special IRC channel where we discuss who will be the approved candidates for office.

Haha. I'm still thinking about my answers to your questions. They are deep and substantive issues I need to address, and I'd rather not go off half cocked.

Of course we are happy. It gives us all something to grumble about while ensuring that everything stays the same.

until you understand that you will not really understand TNP.

In fact, I am so happy I am going to break into song:

Are you aware of the irony of this thread?

1. The title to my thread isn't ordinary! It has my name in it!

2. Absolutely. There's room for creativity in any games that has a venue for it, especially RPGs. My D&D games never seem to last more than 10 sessions, but I've done some crazy shit and creatively during them.

3. Heh, you said teat.

4. Irony? What irony? Oh you mean that I'm subject to a review of my RA app by the very justices whom I'm running against? IRONY. I get it nao.

Justices ought, at the very least, to be reliable and trustworthy. Is that how you would describe yourself? is that how others would describe you?

Reliable? Sure. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone arguing that I'm not reliable.

Trustworthy? I'm sorry could you define trustworthy for me?

neat side-step.

I think I would define "trustworthy" as "Would not break a promise and hand the region over to Gatesvile, given the chance."

And I suppose your answer to the first question means that we could rely on you to hand the region over to Gatesvile, given the chance?

I'm not entirely sure to what you're referring. Is there a reference here I'm not getting?
