Are you at all happy with the current state of the TNP Judicial System?
Are you happy with months long trials that end not so much with a bang, but with a whimper?
Are you happy with people using the court to settle personal feuds?
Are you happy with Justices that promise you a change from the status quo and then fail to deliver?
TNP has a tradition of openness and acceptance. It is a vibrant community, filled with some of the best legal minds in the entirety of Nationstates. And yet, the whole system seems flawed. I'm tired of hearing lolTNPcourt jokes. There's no reason why our system of justice has to continue to be overly complicated. There is little point to our system of justice being a black hole into which all issues, arguments, and laws eventually funnel.
A court is supposed to make government administration easier, not harder. A legal system is supposed to solve problems, not make more of them.
A lot of this is going to have to start with our laws, and start with us in the RA. Should trials be shorter? Yes. The process itself will require significant retooling in order for that to be a successful endeavor. Because while shorter trials are a goal, we have to ensure their fairness at the same time. In my opinion, section 3.3 needs a revamp. This isn't Real Life (patent pending), and we need to examine if the steps it has outlined, in the exact order it is outlined, are the best solution for a forum government prosecuting crimes.
There are good and bad ways to do this, but it will take the entire RA working together (which I assure you is not at all the forlorn hope it appears to be) to come to a final decision on how to solve these problems.
As for what I'll do personally as justice, beyond pushing for these reforms: I'll keep up the level of activity that I've had in all the positions I've ever held. I always pay attention. You won't have to worry about a Judge Dreizehn going on an unannounced (or even announced) leave of absence. I will be here, interpreting the law, helping in any way I am able to ensure that the courts run smoothly, and finally (and most importantly) making damn sure that justice is served.
Now, I imagine some of you have questions?
Shoot. (which given the expected tenor of the questions, may be an apropos term).
