There are two key differences between the two thrones, however. The 1945 version is missing a small nick in the right arm. The original has this mark believed to have been left by the sabre of a British cavalry officer who discovered it after Napoleon's first exile and while going to sit down in it, nicked it with the sabre he held in his hand. The second difference is the artist's mark. The original carries the mark "JS" under the rear right leg. The replica makers had access to the original plans but this very small detail was not included on those plans. Instead, they have made the mark "JS" located on the back of the back left leg.
