Repeal "Nuclear Arms Possession Act"
A resolution to repeal previously passed legislation.
Category: Repeal | Resolution: GA#10 | Proposed by: Haroutito
Description: WA General Assembly Resolution #10: Nuclear Arms Possession Act (Category: International Security; Strength: Mild) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.
Argument: COMMENDING the resolutions effort to ensure every nations right to defend itself,
ACKNOWLEDGING that every nation has the right to defend itself from external threats,
NOTING that numerous nations possess nuclear weapons,
FURTHER ACKNOWLEDGING that nuclear weapons often cause horrific civilian casualties,
UNDERSTANDING the disastrous environmental ramifications,
CONCERNED that there is a failure to specify how nuclear material and weapons will be secured, offering no oversight to ensure its safe keeping,
BELIEVING that the use of nuclear weapons would mean M.A.D. (Mutually Assured Destruction),
REALIZING that conventional weapons are available which are as effective as nuclear weapons, but safer in lieu of civilian and environmental impact,
FURTHER REALIZING that the use of nuclear weapons may cause hazardous material to spread to nations not involved in the combat described,
BELIEVING that due to the above, nuclear weapons cannot be accepted as a legitimate deterrent,
HEREBY REPEALS the Nuclear Arms Possession Act.
Please vote For, Against, Abstain, or Present.

The purpose of this resolution is to repeal the Nuclear Arms Possession Act. As such, my review will be quite short, as there's only the one thing one can say in relation to this.
It is quite clear from this resolution that the author intends to ban the use of nuclear weapons should the repeal pass. That is a terrible idea. Banning the use of nuclear weapons among WA member states would do nothing to stop the non-WA member states owning and using them. The repeal author believes that MAD is not a useful deterrent, but when you look at the only known instance of MAD (in real life) it appears to have been at least somewhat successful.
Nuclear weapons are bad, I agree, but by repeal NAPA, and then banning them, it puts only WA member states at risk from being bombed themselves - allowing us to have nuclear weapons as least gives us the chance to threaten those non-WA member states with retaliation. It may or may not work, but at least it's a better chance than sitting back and having nothing for deterrence.
I recommend most strongly an against vote on this repeal.
