Countries with best scenery

What countries would you say have the best nature and scenery? I would say some of the best are Canada, Scotland, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, Ireland.

Depends upon what you are looking for.

Of the places I have been, I am most impressed with these for scenery and nature:

1. Mongolia.

If you like horses and interesting people, Mongolia is a must.

2. Russia.

Riding the Trans-Siberia Railway is an experience in and of itself.

3. Australia.

The Red Center is lethal if you make a mistake.

4. New Zealand.

Shaling in the South Island Mountains (don't ask...). :P

5. Croatia.

If you love horses, this is almost on par with Mongolia.

6. Almost anywhere in Europe.

7. Poland.

Horses again!

8. Canada.

The untamed areas of the Great White North are absolutely desolate. Like Australia, make a mistake and you're bear-shit in three days.

9. South Africa.

Or anywhere on the African continent. Egypt is outstanding for any number of reasons.

10. Israel.

Especially the Negev Desert. How anything can live there is beyond me.

11. Brazil.

The Amazon has it. Hostile natives, deadly critters, nasty parasites that will make you wish you hadn't gone.

12. The USA.

This is the most diverse country in terms of Geology, climate, wildlife (despite what the tree-huggers claim), people, you name it. We've got every climate ranging from Tropical to Arctic. It's all here. I've been to some strange places in the World, but the US tops it.

I love the British Countryside tbqh. The scenery is absolutely amazing. For a country which is apparently running out of room, we certainly have a lot of rural areas.

Not being nationalistic here, I like most places you said before but...

I really have to say my country, the Canary Islands, has some beautiful views. Every island has its own beauty, but the one I live in (Tenerife) seems to be like a summary of them all:

Snowy mountains and sea of cloud over the woods, while the lower island it's still sunny and you can go to the beach or whatever. Mountains, forests, beaches and volcanoes...

Tho I've never been to the Canary Islands, I am going to say I agree w/Lennart. Volcanic islands with their accompanying microclimate can't be beat.

I guess every country has pretty awesome things, and as a matter of statistics it seems the larger the country the more diverse the nature and wildlife is.

I will visit Australia someday, I always wanted to... and see platipus, kangaroos and spiders (from smallest to biggest lol).

MCM, which places do you think are the most beautiful/awesome in Australia?

You lucky bastard to live in such a beautiful place! Hmmm - "Islas Canarias"... from the Latin, "Insula Canaria"... Island of the Dogs. Which makes me feel better because I hate those little yellow birds. :P

Another nice place is St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha (Brit Overseas Territory). Lots of history, great horseback riding! :w00t:

It really depends what you are looking for. The country is so large and diverse and it would taek a long time to be able to see all of it. For me, I think the pilbarra area of the north of Western Australia is beautiful. It has the beautiful deserts contrasting with the beautiful beaches, reefs, and cliff-faces. If you go to the south of the state its the opposite, huge trees and forrest and a beautiful wine region and whale watching sites. As well as kangaroos everywhere

On the east coast, there is the one of the kind Great Barrier Reef, beautiful rain forrests and other attractions in the major cities including the capital Canberra. Depends what kind of holiday you want.

I have a cousin who lives in Wollongong. Looks just about perfect to me!

Funny story: There is an Australian-themed restaurant chain in the US called the Outback. My cousin said they recently opened one near her, which we thought was as hilarious as opening an Olive Garden in Milan. But she said it is immensely popular, not because of the "authentic" Australian cuisine, but because of the free soft drink refills.

That doesn't surprise me, who doesn't love free refills ;)

In America, the shop Pie Face is popular with Australian tourists in order to satisfy their meat pie cravings :P

Hmmm, I thought that was to attract fans of the Broadway Musical Sweeny Todd. :P

*waits to see if anyone gets this one.

My serious nomination is Canada. The Canadian Rockies are just sick.

Banff to Japser on 93 is a kick-ass drive!

Whenever I attend the Calgary Stampede, I always make a point to haul up to the Banff National Park, Jasper NP, Lake Louise and some of the seriously isolated places along the Yellowhead Highway for some serious wilderness horseback riding. Not much up there but outrageous scenery and a whole lot of, "gee, if I ever got marooned up here, I'd really be f***ed!" territory).

Yup the scenery is insane. I love the Stampede too! Alberta is more American than where I live now (San Francisco).

San Francisco? You poor bastard.

@ Ash - I got to ride the Trans-Siberian and Baikal-Amur Mainline Railways a few years back. It was one amazing experience. At times it was like stepping back into the Tsarist Russia Era.
