Poll: Majority of Americans now favor legalized recreational marijuana

I read about that earlier, and from a sociologiccal standpoint all I can think of is "finnnnaaaaallllyyyy".

I've been pondering this shift in public opinion and think that the 24 hour news cycle played a part. I think people are issue fatigued because they hear about it all the time and want everyone to just stfu about it. Same thing for gay marriage recently, you'll hear the most conservative people in your day to day who say they support it because they are tired of hearing about it.

I support legalization. I would hands down choose smoking weed over drinking any day of the week.

I think it should be legal. But my biggest concern is people driving while impaired. Where I live, they do not have DUI testing for weed that is meaningful. That needs to be fixed.

Apparently Alcohol is actually worse for you than Weed but I don't know if I believe that.

I think personally I believe in decriminalisation of it. Meaning you're not allowed to smoke it still but if you do it's not a criminal offense to do so.

I'm told that many police where I live will turn a blind eye if it's a small amount anyway it's large amounts they have a problem with.

On the other hand, the state shouldn't take on this paternal role simply because a few people can't pull their heads in. I guess GBM has the right of it, we need some decent means detection and then we'll be set.

I've been a supporter of legalized marijuana for a long time now. From a libertarian standpoint, adults should be able to use a recreational drug with less side effects (both personally and socially) than alcohol. The amount of money our government spends on enforcing marijuana laws could be put to better use elsewhere.

Marijuana is already legal in about 18 states. Some states like Oklahoma are still very punitive. I don't have a problem with adults using it at home, as long as they don't drive while high. It is still illegal in Canada, but laws are often not enforced.

You know, if one gets really stoned, one cannot find one's car keys let alone one's car. You know, once the federal government finds an effective way to tax pot and find away to use pot to keep the people compliant and obedient to the government, then not smoking pot will become a crime. :P

Being basically a Libertarian and Strict Constuctionalis/Constitutionalist, I believe if someone wants to do something, anything, they should be allowed to do so as long as they don't violate someone else's rights in the process. If someone wants to get stoned out of their gourd and wander around in public, I say fine, as long as they don't drive a car when stoned or try to lick the faces of passers-by.
