January 9 2012

Early this morning Mcmasterdonian's woke up to the devastating news of the sudden death of his Imperial Majesty the Emperor Louis Tyrell III. Due to McMasterdonian royal tradition, the health problems of members of the Royal Family are not shared publicly, leaving the nation in shock at this sudden loss.

It has now been confirmed that the Emperor passed after a long battle with lung cancer. The Emperor was pronounced dead at 4:30am at Belvedere Palace, passing peacefully surrounded by members of the Imperial family.

Mourners fill the city streets to pay their respects to Emperor Louis III

The Imperial Family of Tyrell has retreated to the private residence of the Countess Palatine Matilda to mourn the loss of their patriarch and to open dialogue about who shall ascend the vacant throne.

It is expected that the Countess Palatine Matilda I, the youngest daughter of the Emperor will claim the throne, the first woman in 80 years. It is expected that the Countess will resign as Chancellor within the next few days if she is to be elected Empress of the McMasterdonian Kingdom.

The unexpected death of the Emperor has lead many prominent politicians to question the merit of withholding details of the Monarch's health, given the significant political power the Monarch holds in the country and the lack of a clear successor.

Senator Charles Monparte released a statement immediately following the Emperor's death:

"Together as a nation we grieve the terrible loss of a benevolent, and very well loved ruler. Looking to the future, one can hope that if the young Matilda does ascend the throne as our Empress, that she will be the final senior member of the Royal Family to hold the position of Chancellor of the Senate. Despite the Royal Families popularity, populacy itself is not democracy. Civilians must be given an equal opportunity to represent the state as it's head of government. It is necessary that we take these steps in order to modernize McMasterdonia and to keep it in touch with our regional community."

The Oriole Union and her government send their deepest condolences at receiving the news of His Imperial Majesty the Emperor Louis Tyrell III's sudden death and the Madame Chairwoman (Ms. Bette Grantham) has organized for all Oriolean flags to be at half mast tomorrow from seven in the morning to seven at night. Ms. Fellows, a dear, old friend of the late Emperor and Royal Family, also sends her regards and requests to attend the funeral.

Following a direct vote by the Royal Family of McMasterdonia, the coronation of the new Queen of the Kingdom of McMasterdonia has taken place at the traditional seat of the royal family in the ancient city of Cape El.

The City of Cape El remains one of the final strongholds in support of absolutism within the Kingdom

All monarch's since the defeat of Prince Ferdinand in the War of the Prides in 1752 have been crowned in Cape El. Queen Matilda is the first female monarch since the short reign of Queen Elissa in 1903 to ascend the throne.

It has been more than a year since the death of the late monarch, Louis III. Issues and rivalries between members of the royal family have led to a great deal of uncertainty within McMasterdonia, which has resulted in great political instability, especially within the bicameral legislature.

While the rest of the holds in the Kingdom are beginning to support a move away from the strong centralisation of power within the monarchs hands, Cape El remains as one of the strongest centres of support for the absolute power of the royal family in the nation.

Even the political capital of McMasterdonia, Intelligentsia has quite strongly moved away from this more traditional view and the Senate has made repeated calls for the position of monarch to be kept separate from the position of Chancellor or head of government.

Senate Speaker, Elizabeth Hansonn addresses the National Press Club

Senate Speaker, Elizabeth Hansonn recently said in a statement to the national press club that "The Monarch has an iron fisted grip on political power in this country, and that is unacceptable for a nation within a democratic region. We need to start addressing these concerns, or the Royal Family is at risk of becoming an outdated institution within the nation and people will begin looking for alternatives."

Despite the political divides within the nation a statement from the royal palace has expressed that the Queen has no intention of resigning from her position as Chancellor.

"If the Council of State wishes to remove the Queen from the position of Chancellor, a vote would be required to do so. As it stands, the Queen has the full support from the Council of State and it is her duty to exercise their will" a palace official said.

The Economy of Mcmasterdonia remains at frightening levels of economic growth and it will be the responsibility of the new Queen to address concerns about the sustainability of economic growth and appropriate financial and infrastructure plans for the future.

Former House Speaker Arrested

December 23rd, 2013

A quiet Morning in the capital has ended after an outbreak of violence and protests after Former House Speaker Elizabeth Hansoon was arrested on charges of treason and lese majesty or insulting the dignity of the royal family. Mrs Hansoon was attending a small congregation at the Holy Flemingovian Chapel on Greer Avenue when she was arrested by Her Majesties Intelligence service.

On lookers were shocked to see the use of violence in the most holy Flemingovian Church, a church in which Her Majesty the Queen is a devout follower. Mrs Hansoon was arrested following comments she made on MBC News 24 where she described HM in a way that was determined to by Her Majesties Security and Intelligence forces to have been lese majesty and highly insulting to the dignity of the young monarch.

Unusually peaceful protests outside the Royal Palace, Intelligentsia

The comments cannot be repeated due to their highly offensive and illegal nature, however the comments were made on live television following the refusal of Her Majesty, Queen Matilda to resign following a successful vote of no confidence by the Council of State in her position as Chancellor or head of government. The motion was moved by the Former Speaker of the Senate herself, and a vote was placed in support of the Duchess of Capricornia, Rosemary Went, currently the Foreign Minister for the position of Chancellor of the Kingdom.

Following the vote Her Grace, Duchess Went declined to accept the position when it was apparent that Her Royal Majesty would not accept the verdict. "I would have very much liked to have served as Her Majesties Chancellor. It would have been impossible for me to attempt to do so without her support, and in the interests of national unity I stood aside in her favour" the Duchess said.

The interference by the Queen in the Council of State has led to a 25 point drop in her nationwide approval rating.

telegram:
To: Her Grace, Duchess Rosemary Whent
From: J.J. Kerr

Commiserations. I thought you would have been a good chancellor for McMasterdonia. It seems a little odd that it's the Countess Palatine's way always, even when the votes are so clearly to the contrary. Why don't you join the New Year Party? We need experienced politicians to organize a way forward in this region. I'm sure there are other North Pacifican countries that would like a break from autocracy. Get a few allies and we could see votes counting instead of just countesses voting.

McMasterdonian News in brief...

Assent Denied

Her Royal Majesty, Queen Matilda has refused to grant assent to the Taxation Reform Bill 2014. The bill in question passed with a supermajority in the Senate and was presented to the Queen for her approval. The Tax Reform bill required that all spending and tax increases be approved by the Senate first and not by the Queen unilaterally.

Customarily a bill rejected by the sitting monarch may not be presented to the Senate again for at least 12 months after the bill has been vetoed.

Terrorist group and outlawed political alliance The Liberty Movement or TLM has been encouraging civil unrest and rebellion against the rightful monarch of McMasterdonia. The Government advises all citizens to proceed with caution and avoid being misled and recruited into the enemies ranks at risk of being considered an enemy of the state.

The refurbishment is expected to conclude on the 9th of February 2015.

Political Crisis Continues

Intelligentsia, October 29 2014.

It has now been more than nine months since McMasterdonia was gripped by its greatest political crisis in modern history. Nine months, seven days ago, Queen Matilda of Mcmasterdonia prorogued parliament for an indefinite period and outlawed The Liberty Alliance and the McMasterdonian Peoples Party. The elections are now more than 6 months overdue and clearly indicate that the Queen has no intention of keeping to her previous commitments.

It is not all bad news for the young Queen, who still enjoys immense popular support in some of the isolated cities and with the dwarven minority in the mountainous region. The strong rhetoric of the information ministry and the character assassination of members of the opposition movement as foreign puppets have significantly improved the Queen's standing in certain sectors of the community.

The dramatic capture and execution of the Lady Isabella Granthem of Castello was a crippling blow to opposition forces, however the movement remains very much alive with the Rosemary Went and Richard Lund still evading royal security forces. The port city of Augusta, Cape El and Cobblers Bay have all declared their complete support for the Queen and Royal Family, with Capricornia, Castello and Ceduna in open rebellion against the crown.

The execution of Lady Granthem caused widespread riots

The Government has attempted to improve it's image through a World Tour program that ultimately collapsed and has resulted in a deep resentment of the Queen in Intelligentsia and the concern that the Queen presents an incomprehensible and inconsistent image of McMasterdonian state affairs when abroad. There appears to be no clear way forward for peace in McMasterdonia, with the Queen clearly unwilling to consult with opposition forces and the execution of Lady Granthem further escalating tensions and opposition legitimacy in the eastern parts of the Kingdom.

The Democratic Union remains silent on the brutality of the ruling regime and the failure to hold free, fair, full and impartial elections for the nations legislature.

New Government Website Launched

Her Majesty's Government has launched a new government website, viewable here. The website will serve as a point of reference for government news, contact information, as well as important information for our nation abroad.

The website is still under construction, but at present includes detailed information about the Royal Family of Mcmasterdonia, the National Government and Her Majesty's Foreign Affairs program.

Chairman Malvad attacks McMasterdonia

Earlier this week, the Chairman of the Democratic Union, Erwin August of Malvad made a highly inflammatory and insulting move before the Democratic Union and called for a vote on intervening in McMasterdonian internal matters. While the Chairman later conceded that the vote was not intended to be binding on democratic union members, he did not cease on his relentless attack on the Queen and the people of the Kingdom of McMasterdonia.

Chairman Malvad demands a vote and ignores all objections

The Chairman demonstrated a troubling lack of regard for the strong history of the Kingdom, and demonstrated his complete lack of knowledge as to the nations domestic laws or the importance of constitutional supremacy. The Kingdom fully rejects the actions taken by the Chairman and believes that the Chairman is attempting to deflect attention from the internal turmoil that has gripped Malvad over the past couple of years, which has included the entire disappearance of their royal family without any explanation.

Elections Scheduled for 21st of January

The new Electoral Center is scheduled to be completed in late December, with Her Royal Majesty announcing that elections will be held on the 21st of January to elect a new Senate that will serve for a three year period. Her Royal Majesty has met with leaders of the opposition who have agreed to allow electoral officers into the cities to distribute electoral ballots and information for the election campaign.

Terrorist organisations such as the Liberty Movement and the McMasterdonian Peoples Party remain outlawed and continue to attack McMasterdonian settlements and are believed to be responsible for the kidnapping and murder of 12 school children last month.

Elections have been scheduled for the 21st of January and Her Majesty's government is committed to meeting that deadline. The Kingdom appreciates the support that her allies have shown in the face of a gross assault on McMasterdonian national sovereignty by hypocritical foreign governments.
