[me], as Delegate of The North Pacific and pursuant to Law 26, hereby publishes an election calendar for the January 2012 General Election, as follows:

Where a time is applied, it is assumed to be a start time of 0000 GMT/UTC, and an end time of 2359 GMT/UTC.

3 December 2011 -- Date by which election calendar must be posted by the Delegate pursuant to Law 26.

3 December 2011 -- Date by which residents of The North Pacific must have joined the Regional Assembly in order to be eligible as a candidate in the general election.

24 December 2011 -- Date by which election commissioner(s) are appointed by Delegate

26 December 2011 -- Date by which Speaker, or Chief Justice appoints election commissioner(s) if not appointed by the Delegate.

1 January 2012 -- Legal Holiday (Remembrance Day)

1 January 2012 -- First day of Election Cycle

2 January 2012 at 0000 GMT -- First Day of Period for Nominations and Declarations of Candidacy; Campaign Threads may be opened.

9 January 2012 at 0000 GMT -- Closing of Nominations/Declarations period.

12 January 2012 at 0000 GMT -- First Day of Voting in General Election

19 January 2012 at 0000 GMT-- Closing of Voting Period

21 January 2012 at 0000 GMT -- (if needed) First Day of Voting in Runoff General Election

28 January 2012 at 0000 GMT-- (if needed) Closing of Runoff Voting Period

In accordance with: TNP Law 26, Section One: General Elections, The General Elections for The the North Pacific Region for the month of January is scheduled as follows:

The nomination period for the January 2012 General Elections are OPEN as of January 2, 2012 at 00:00am GMT.

The nominations period for General Elections will CLOSE on January 8, 2012 at 11:59pm GMT.

  • TNP Delegate
  • TNP Vice Delegate
  • Speaker of the Regional Assembly




Special Nomination Instructions:

  • If you nominate yourself, you will automatically be placed on the election ballot. If you are nominated by another individual, your nomination must also be seconded by another member of the Regional Assembly. You must also confirm your nomination before being placed on the ballot, preceding the close of the nomination period.

  • Please be reminded that all candidates for all position, per constitution, must have been on The North Pacific Regional Assembly for a minimum of 30 days before election nominations begin.

The Election Time Line is as follows:


  • Campaigning will start on January 9 at 00:00am GMT and end on January 11 at 11:59pm GMT.
  • Elections will begin on January 12 at 00:00am GMT and end on January 18 at 11:59pm GMT.
  • Election results will be released on January 19 by 5:00pm GMT.
  • Run-off elections will be held afterwards if needed.


All times for elections will be based on GMT.

Ah, good, it looks like we'll have an actual election this time around with actual contested candidates running. Now we just need for Vice Delegate candidates.
 
I have determined that I shall not seek, nor will I accept, election to a new term as Delegate.

If I could feel that I could rely on other Admin to respond to their responsibility here in a timely manner, I might feel differently, but that issue has been one of several that have been ongoing since my term began, and I’m fed up with it.

I posted in another thread about the artificial barriers a certain group have raised since my election and how, when they thought they saw greener grass elsewhere, they all but disappeared.

It is also clear that whether I offer a set of promises or proposals or not, they would continue this pattern of obstruction. The proposals they pursued wih regard to reform were poorly thought out and in some ways would have accomplished nothing except chaos. Having failed at that, they have moved on to obstructionism of any other points of view to accomplish the same ends.

So I will not run in this election. It is unlikely I will run in future elections. I have held office of one form or another with virtually no breaks for almost all of the last six-plus years from the time I was first elected to an office in the spring of 2005. That is a long time.

You can assume that I will maintain my membership in the Regional Assembly and the Security Council without interruption.
