FORUM CHANGES

The manifesto I was elected on contained these core promises
his manifesto is an admission that the grand experiments of feeder politics have largely failed. The Judicial wing of TNP has never worked, the legislative wing is moribund. I propose a complete … overhaul? Abandonment? Of that aspect of the game.

It is a return, in a way, to the wild west days before we had a constitution. So no constitution, no bill or rights, no new charters or other schizzle.

First, I will not appoint any government at all. That’s right. It doesn’t work, so why pretend? All it does is lead to dissatisfaction.

This is an admission that the offsite political sim that is Nationstates has ended, as far as TNP is concerned. There are other regions still playing that game. We can go and legislate there if that rocks our boat.

Second, The RA, with the office of Speaker, will remain as present, but the sole purpose will be to vote in elections (for which see below)

Third, Trials are silly. We won’t have them. Administrators will police the forum, and the delegate will police the region. If the delegate coups, we fight them. If the admins get draconian we move forums – that is all the checks and balances we need, really.

Fourth, I will serve as delegate for the allotted term, plus any transition. I will not coup. I will not grief the region. I will not go on a banning spree. Anyone who knows me at all knows that these promises would be a cast iron fact. I would take opinions on the RA issues, and vote accordingly. I would ban only as a last resort, and grudgingly (during my last term I did not ban at all. I am quite proud of that). Once the forum votes in a new delegate, I will move aside.

Finally, The focus of TNP would change back to where it used to be most effective – fun and OOC games. We wil restructure the forum to make these things prominent. Most of you will not remember, but once we had the best and most active OOC area in Nationstates. We were famous for it. Largely we got distracted by governance and turmoil. It’s the end of the world as we knew it. Time to party, methinks.

Questions?
(to the quesion: are you burning up the government with a plan to restore a new one, or are you just getting rid of it altogether?

For now, getting rid of it pretty much altogether. The RA (renamed the Electoral College) will remain as a vehicle for electing the delegate (I am not setting up an "official rogue" delegacy!!). Therefore the EC will need a speaker. That's about it for now.

It may be in the future the community fancy returning to a more developed form of government. Or it may be that investment/involvement by Max means that NS has an upturn. But at the moment i do not see the activity or the interest to warrant a government structure.

However, I do see a market for fun, a bit of roleplay and gaming. What I envisage is the mothballing of all government and foreign affairs thread, along with the judiciary etc.

What would remain would be:
TNP forum guidebook (a new area to help people navigate around)
General announcements
Welcome centre
News of the nations (a place where we can boast, or put up what has happened to our nations, or talk about ourselves)
Nationstates discussions (including newspapers)
In the Real World .... (replacing real life discussions)
Gaming Zone (guess who will post next etc)
Culture Zone (blogs, poetry, creative writing, haikus, etc)
Roleplay (westworld, Medaeval world, sciFi etc)
Election forum (which would only become visible at election time)
Electoral College Signup and Electoral Roll
Ask an Admin (for forum suggestions/complaints)

That's about it, except to say that the main areas will be Gaming zone and culture zone.

I also have ideas for prizes for spammers etc. But that needs more work before I make any rash announcements.

I have made a start on this, reorganising some sections of the forum. But to do away with the judiciary (particularly when I am under recall) and to do away with the government would possibly be overreaching my powers.

So I have the situation where i was elected with a mandate, I feel, but I think I need a Regional Assembly agreement before I proceed with the government changes I outlined in my manifesto. I would welcome help drafting a bill to bring to ASsembly.

I'm not really a big fan of this idea from the start, but it is within the authority of the delegate to request (or do) restructuring of the forum as long as it doesn't violate other bodies written into the constitution.

So to do away with Judiciary, you will probably needs an amendment to the constitution. Other change will probably be at your discretion.

Flem is free to organize the Executive branch as he wishes as the elected Delegate under the Constitution. He is not free to disregard the remainder of the Constitution or the Bill of Rights.
The Judiciary has taken steps to assure that future cases will move along or will be dismissed as the burden to be prepared for trial now rests with the parties. All evidence to be presented at a trial must be ready when the trial begins. We won't be having months-long postings in a thread to get testimony from a single witness. That sort of thing will need to be prepared before trial and ready to be posted at trial. No cases were even presented to the Court during this most recent term. The Court does not initiate cases, so if it seems dormant it is because others chose not to use it. In other words, do not blame us.

The main problem has been the overloading of subforums related to the Executive. As an admin, I have absolutely no way to decipher which ones are needed and which ones are not. Recent Delegates have chosen to keep subforums out of srchive that they weren't using, then the next Delegate would do the dame thing but use some of the old ones, and the chaos went on from there.

Out of curiosity, what do you intend to with the "Westworld" RP forum? As in, does it have a general purpose, as in RP set in a certain style, or will it be a general RP area for the forum?

EDIT: Never mind. I should actually read what the description says... So then, will there be other RP forums created?

Yes. I have in mind medaeval world (chivalry, anyone?) and Sci-Fi world.

Any other suggestions would be welcome

I have rationalised things in the forum a bit more, moving all the OOC stuff into one area (it was silly to have it in "real life") and moving all the literary stuff into one area etc.

I've gone into the ACP, and finished the archiving of the subforums Flem moved but didn't get off the top page of the forum. It should make it look a lot shorter than it was.

Now if the out of date pinned threads, anf the threads that aren't needed could be moved to its proper subforum archive, then things would look spiffy!

I'm aware than the strange "<span> </span> coding now includes the Admin as well as the SC user groups.
I've sent messages to both Eluvatar and Ator People, and hipefully I'll hear back soon from one of them. If anyone else sees either of them on-line, ask them to please respond to my message to them a.s.a.p.

Ator has come to our rescue on the odd coding problem, and we now know what the problem essentially was.
Zetaboards generally does not use HTML for color coding, but uses BBCode. This actually limits our colors for groups slightly, but I've kept almost all of the colors essentially the same as they've been.
Ator will be available for admin duty in case of an emergency. I'll be letting our Global Mods know how to get in touch with him for that reason.

It shouldn't limit the colors you can use... COLORBAGNZA!

Code:
[color=#b9006c]COLORBAGNZA![/color]

*shrugs*

Believe me I tested a couple using the color codes of the converted forum skin, and they did not take. And the "Gold" of BB Code is actually yellow, and is very difficult to see. I was able to add "dark" to several of the colors, though.

I believe you, but I've actually got [color=#------][/color] working for group names on other Zetaboard forums. Were you using a "#" sign?

Just for the record, the user group colors are now as follows:
Members - Bold Navy
Banned - Italic Black
Regional Assembly - Bold Dark Orange
WA Delegate - Bold Firebrick
Vice Delegate - Bold Maroon
Court Justices - Bold Indigo
Attorney General - Bold Darkorchid
Cabinet - Bold Lime Green
Speaker of the RA - Bold Dark Green
Diplomats - Bold Deep Sky Blue
Foreign Envoy - Bold Italic Black
TNP Citizen - Bold Orange
Security Council - Bold Italic Dark Goldenrod
Admin - Bold Mediumblue
Global Mod - Bold Red

About the only color I had trouble with was the Vice Delegate's brown. It's a bold dark red as is the Delegate's color, and it is hard to see the difference.

I found a list that Zetaboards has of available BBCode colors through a Google search, and the above list are the colors that are now set. My goal was to have different shades of the shared colors, so they could be distinguished (i.e., Speaker and the Cabinet, Justices and the Attorney General, and TNP Citizens, RA members, and Security Council; and the colors for the WA Delegate and the Vice Delegate are now similar to the colors in the HTML code we had before. But all of them are now distinct shades that are not identical. Yay!

If you are looking for a bigger difference, did you try Chartreuse, tan, aquamarine, tomato, goldenrod, dodgerblue, yellowgreen, orangered, burlywood or cadetblue for the VD? There are some pretty weird color words that work even if you can't use Uni's # suggestion, we could probably spend hours finding them.

The vice delegate colour was originally [border=maroon,1,dotted]maroon[/border].

You can use this colour chart to find the codes for virtually any colour you want. I've tried it out as well and it works on zetaboards.

Oddly enough only the VD was a problem. I decided to distinguish the Speaker with a dark green, and the Citizens/RA/SC by having the latter two be dark orange.

We can go maroon for the VD, but it will be hard to distinguish as it is from dark red. I tried redorange for the SC, but that did not work. I cannot tell the difference between the dark red and the maroon, but I'll leave the color as "maroon," I'm trying to keep the colors as close to the badges as I can, for simplicity's sake.

Update: Found a more extensive list of BBCode color names through Google of the Zetaboards forum, and I think we've got distinctive shades of the base colors we have been using for all of the user groups.

Looks good. Well done.

I've implemented changes requested by Delegate Dalimbar in the WA Resolutions area of the Delegate's office. I'll let him explain those when he has a chance.

I would like to request feedback about whether and which subforum areas outside the government should be kept or archived. There are some subforums which haven't seen any posts whatsoever in the last two months, and other which haven't seen any posts in the last two years. Others have yet to have a single post, ever. Currently these areas are modded by our Global Mods, Democratic Donkeys and Great Bights Mum. Suggestions for how to reorganize those particular areas are also welcomed.

Personally, I'd scrap any area that wasn't being actively used. If a post hasn't been made in a subforum for three or months, then it's off to the dustbin, no discussion, no remorse. Who's going to miss them?

Gross, if you provide a list of areas you feel should be cut (say... areas without posts over a year or so, or what ever you wish), I will be more than happy to say "Yes Gross, please cut here, here and here, but not here because I need this for XY&Z" or whatever. I do not have time to review every single section of this forum, so if you or anyone else wishes to provide suggestions, go at it.

I've finally had time to sort out the forum areas and identify what I think needs to be done outside of the Magaicality City and Technology forum areas.

The one area I'm not sure what to do with at the moment is the Foreign Affairs area; I'd like feedback about moving the Embassy Row area up towards the "News of the Nations" area, and whether we need or want to keep the Regional Advertisements area in view of the recent in-game changes with the RMB.

Here is what I have; feedback is welcome:

For now, no changes are being proposed for the Magicality City, Foreign Affairs, or Technology forum areas

Is there any better place or placement for the Embassy Row and Regional Advertisements areas? Do we still want a Regional Advertisements area with the changes to the RMB?

I guess I will put my two cents in here. I would like to see the Role Play stuff that we don't use archived. It is just a waste of space if we don't use it. Also I don't think that a regional advertisement section is needed anymore.

I would love to see a revamp for the foreign affairs section though. I would like to get the foreign diplomats updated with masks if possible and have them apply for their embassy inside TNP in one section. Then have their updates in another section. Of course I think this could all work better if we had a secretary of foreign affairs.

If this can not happen, I would like to see how it would look if we moved the embassies up to the culture zone (with a renaming of this section) with our newspapers and communication office. That way all the news press releases and updates will all be in one place from around the globe.

Of course this is just my two cents of course, I would like to hear other people's thoughts and opinions.
