A Great Travesty

I stand here, not alone, but certainly a victim of a great travesty in this region.

Because of the opinion of one man, we see ourselves with a Delegate who has been singularly anointed our leader for another term. Without hearing the debates, without understanding his shortcomings, and without hearing the assets of the other candidates, the climax of this election has come to an end.

The fault lays not on Dalimbar, who has done his best to handle a precarious situation the way he saw fit. The fault belongs to all those who have been too inactive to preform their part in this vital process. At a time when we needed them the most, at a time when the downtrodden turned to them for guidance and orders the High Court of this region took on an eerie silence. Wringing their hands and stroking their brow we saw nothing resembling strong leadership come from the bench that we trust to interpret our laws.

This phenomenon is not exclusive to the Judicial Branch. Rather it is a plague that covers ever aspect of this region. We have had four months of lethargic leadership from the executive helm, but nobody even questions his right to rule. Nobody questions him on his promise to serve only one term. I do not point fingers of hatred nor contempt at NK, I know he is a progressive thinking who is trying his best, doing his best, and leading his best. But rather, I am attacking the populace of this region.

We have failed in our duty to elect and manta in a responsible government. We have leaned back and lazily nodded our heads to at best, the status quo, and at worst blatant incompetence of this government.

Cleaning house is not the only reason I will continue to advocate for a New Constitution. It is clearer now, more than ever, that we need a system that breeds activity. We currently exist in one that spawns and encourages inactivity. What do you have to do to serve on the Regional Assembly? Show up. Where is the honor? Where is the privilege? Where is the accountability to ourselves?

There is none. And that is why we find ourselves in a peaceful sleep. Many may find this apathy more enticing than political struggle, but I find the later preferable to the deathbed that we are preparing for ourselves as of present.

I stand before you speaking of a great travesty. Our structure of government is it.

I stand here today, calling for the resignation of all officials who cannot actively execute their posts.

I call for the start of a new era. Dominated by a new governing document and a liquid, functioning government that will take this region to new heights!

If you disagree! Say so! We cannot remain in this apathetic state where people shy from conflict! I am ready and willing to debate!

I would have to disagree with several points. First off getting on the courts for face it, not waiving a requirement. The courts do not waive laws, or the constitution, that is not what they do, they interpret laws, or the constitution.

They also do not stop elections by the way.

If you want to propose change, then by all means propose them. Nothing wrong with ideas, and trying to improve things. Join the assembly, and propose away. That's a good thing!

However don't blame others for the same problem you share with those you accuse.

The Constitution has been in place for a very long time. While it may not be the most efficient system of governance it isn't as if it just appeared out of nowhere.

To claim some malfeasance on the part of the Court or the government because you chose to be inactive and not take part is really reaching.

While I believe you have made some good points in some of your essays, I believe your current efforts are misplaced and counterproductive.

If you want to see change, then work on it from this point forward from within the confines of the Regional Assembly until the next election period, at which time, provided you remain active, you will be eligible to run.

The courts made no official ruling one way or the other. This has never been, nor shall it ever be, about me getting my way. It is about people in power doing their jobs, or relieving themselves of said responsibilities.

As it was, we all basically came to a consensus. I have no problem with that usually, but a question was posed to the court that was never officially answered.

The Constitution has been in place for a very long time. While it may not be the most efficient system of governance it isn't as if it just appeared out of nowhere.

It's no secret that I did not support the change to this Constitution as, at the time, as I do now, believe it is too weak.

However don't blame others for the same problem you share with those you accuse.

In my speeches, I say 'we', because I am fully aware of my personal folly.

Perhaps HEM has a point, the government certainly looks dead...smells sort of like a corpse too...
