The Corporation

This is a general discussion in regards to specifically what the corporation idea entails. This is just temp to test out...if we don't like it...we get rid of it and it becomes a eR Technical forum for masking and technical problems.

As we discussed in the structure thread...we can have 2 systems in place.

1 Government/Party with positions that would control in game matters.

The other is a Corporation structure where we have positions that have specific jobs that are directly related to the forum.

One department that comes to mind is Human Resources. It would be in charge of accepting new players to eR, placing them in positions, requesting masks updating the member list etc. Another would be Public (or Player) Relations which would oversee the creation of Guides, updating us on game changes, etc.

Just some ideas off the top of my head.

We shouldn't go crazy with positions...at first I am sure myself and ER will do most of this type of work unless we have volunteers.

Well, since there's been some discussion on not having a democratically-based system of leadership in our Structure thread (given we're going to be a group, not a government) - I've sat down and put together a system that would be based mostly upon direct appointments based upon demonstrated talent and dedication (aka a Meritocracy).

The following is only a brief idea of the "corporation" at best...its not intended to be comprehensive - the specifics can be discussed here. Not all positions will need to be filled at the moment of our creation, but its a general idea of what perhaps it should begin to look like (the organization as a whole directed off-site).

OFFICERS
-----------

In short, anyone not a member of the Lower or Upper Council. May have certain responsibilities in their particular department (Public Commision, Military, Party etc) as designated by their superior - the Chancellors, Lord Commander or Party President.

LOWER COUNCIL
--------------------------

Men and women responsible for heading up the three off-site departments of the organization, and also including two of the in-game Wing leaders. The point of the Lower Council is to meet collectively at set times to discuss progress being made in each department (encourages motivation, accountability, and coherence). By majority vote, the five members of the Lower Council may recommend the appointment or resignation (of an existing member in the Lower Council or beneath) to the Upper Council, in regards to a position within the Lower Council.

Party President - figurehead of the Political Wing (one of the organization's two primary branches) to our members and the rest of eRepublik world. Heads up our political endeavours. Is elected by all Party members on the 15th of every month, and has the in-game ability to edit party details, select who will run for Congress from the party, and select who will represent the party in presidential elections. May appoint, demote or kick members in his department. This position may be held by an Elder.

Lord Commander - figurehead of the Military Wing. Is appointed by the Upper Council and heads up our military endeavors. May appoint, demote or kick members in his department. May be held by an Elder.

Chancellor of Home Affairs - general moderator of non Lower/Upper Council forums, provides assistance to newcomers to the organization, requests mask updates, provides guides and a list of current members and their positions. May appoint, demote or kick members in his department.

Chancellor of The Public Commission - head of diplomatic affairs, and operates a bureau responsible for the gathering of eRepublik information (foreign affairs intelligence/game updates/announcements), and the distribution of our announcements and dealings to the rest of eRepublik. May appoint, demote or kick members in his department.

Chancellor of The Security Intelligence Agency - responsible for security. This includes surveillance of existing members, and of those outside the organization. Also heads up potential espionage/infiltration tasks. May appoint, demote or kick members in his department.

UPPER COUNCIL
----------------

The small, efficient, decision-making of the organization, and summit of the hierarchy.

4 Elders - directly oversees the Chancellors, the Party President, and the Lord Commander. A position earned by only those of unmatched dedication and intellect, they command respect from every division of the organization. Appointments to the Elder position/all Lower Council positions and any other major decisions will affirmed by a majority vote of the five of the Upper Council (High Elder and four elders). The Elders are responsible for the enforcement of decisions throughout the corporation.

1 High Elder: A permanent position that supervises the membership and initiates the workings of the Elders specifically, and the Chancellors and Political/Military wings generally. As figure-head of the corporation, he is only above his fellow Elders in that he has the ability to remove or demote any member in the corporation - not including the Party President, who is elected in-game.

Quickly slapped together, this is what the corporation hierarchy would look like...

Suggestions on this corporation idea welcome.

This mixes the Corp with the party. They were supposed to be separate but the political head would still have a seat in the Corp as it is the in game head.

Security wise...we just started in eR so how are we supposed to spot a forum spy? In NS we have IP addresses and can track members via other forums. We haven't those capabilities yet and most likely will not for a long time. In game security would compose of gathering intel on new members yes.

Also, Elders is not a "corp" position. I think you totally misunderstood the idea. If you just don't want to use it....that's fine too. But it seems you are totally dismissing the point of the Corp idea.

The Corp and the in-game Political Party are indeed separate. The Party President has a seat in the corp - as one of the five of the Lower Council. However, the rest of the party doesn't - the rest of the party members will be participating in the Political Endeavors forum. They will be accountable to the PP (who is in turn personally accountable to the Upper Council), and the Party structure/aims/strategy is to be developed and monitored by the PP...none of it was laid down here. Hence, all things political are headed up by the PP.

The same applies for military. The Lord Commander, too, has a seat as one of the five of the Lower Council. But the rest of the military doesn't - they'll all be participating in the War Room, another section of the forum. The rest of the military, its structure and its campaigns, will be developed and monitered by the Lord Commander - to whom they are accountable.

Also...let me explain the idea of the Councils...

The Upper Council, has no set responsibilities...it is basically the private meeting place of the seniors. It does nothing 'specifically', apart from overall administration - its duty is to appoint/remove members when necessary, and to set the general course of the group. The leaders. When the Upper Council discusses, and agrees upon a particular goal...

The Lower Council is responsible for the in-depth discussion of the goals set by the Upper Council. Elders participate here also. Specifics are laid out - the input of the Lord Commander (or whoever's department it affects), and possibly those the particular department head deems as his senior members of the department, being vital to the development of the activity/goal. This Council is the doer. Once developed, the goal is then taken straight to the department, where the head is responsible for carrying it out.

Don't forget foreign intel and espionage. Apart from this, I'm thinking that this department ought to be far more involved in the internal 'intelligence gathering' business than they ever were in NS. IP address matching might be just the start. Despite that, I did mention that not all positions will be needed to be filled at the moment of our creation.

Ok...let me be more specific. Because I understood everything u said the first time.

Totally dismisses this. Which is what we touched upon elsewhere.

It also is 90 percent related to politics and the general structure. This is not what this topic is about.

This is exasperating.

How about a normal corporate structure that I don't need to read over 4 times to try to understand?
Nail on the head. That is exactly what I suggested here and prior. It shouldn't be many positions anyway...as it is just to keep things organized and efficient and to make sure someone is handling the needs of the players of eR.

Syd:
basically The Party takes care of all in game matters. You guys decide what structure u want...choose what RB suggested or Whatever.

The Corporation aspect of it simply takes care of the needs in the forum for the players. Such as the keeping member lists updated, accepting new members etc.

We can also add the name of the Party with the Corp. In Game we are The Vanguard or Vanguard...here the corp is Vanguard Inc or Corp...whatever u want.

There is more to this idea but we are not ready for that yet.

Here's the basic idea of what I'm trying to get at...

Party President is elected in-game amongst party members - he should very obviously head up all the organization's in-game political matters.

Commander...there is no specific in-game position for this, but thats irrelevant to the fact that we can have one. This position would head up all the organization's military activities.

They're the in-game departments. Other departments will be necessary at some point or another - forum based however, (no official game mechanics available for it) - such as Home Affairs, diplomacy etc. But we should worry about them later.

I believe that there should be a very rigid center of command for the organization - outside and above the political/military wings, and any other department. By corporate, I'm not sure we were referring to similar ideas Tres, but at least here's an explanation.

A small group of the organization's most involved and clued-in, each possibly playing a part in one department or another (whichever suits his/her taste), but most importantly...they'd also be working together in a head office, from where priorities of the organization are established, and leadership maintained. It'd separate from the rest of the organization...like the cockpit of an aeroplane, or the bridge of a ship.

How to get there? Direct appointment, based upon demonstrated skill and dedication. Who originates it? The founders, naturally - those who put in the hard yards to bring about the reality of an NS-based (initially) organization within eRepublik.

Thats the idea. All the other crazy mumbo-jumbo I threw in there feeds off this conception.
