Rhindon's eRepublik Guide: For Newbs.

Prior to reading through this guide, you can check out the eRepublik Wiki's Tutorial.

In eRepublik, you're an individual citizen in a simulation of the real world, which contains hundreds of thousands of "New World" citizens, 55 countries, tens of thousands of businesses, and one opportunity for you to affect them all.

The game is infinitely more well put together than NationStates and CyberNations is - but naturally, it can be a little confusing to begin with (as pretty much all games are!). So here's a breakdown of eRepublik's functions.

You.

You have an inventory, with 20 spaces. Access this by pressing your name underneath your avatar, on the Home page. These spaces are filled with items that you can buy from the Marketplace.

The most important of these items, is food. You can buy this by clicking the "Marketplace" tab, and selecting the Food Industry. Without food, your citizen will eventually die, so you must always ensure that you have enough stockpiled in your inventory to last a while (you'll eat one per day).

You also have the ability to apply for a job and work each day. This will slightly lower your wellness level (though if you're in a Q1 company, it won't be much) - but you'll obviously be gaining a small daily income. You can search for a company to join by clicking "Job Market" under the Market tab, and selecting skill level "0-0.99" (aka you're a newbie). You can then work each day by clicking "Company" under the My Places tab.

All the tabs and buttons on the Main Menu interface explained.

The New World.

eRepublik is broken up into 55 countries (constantly being increased). These countries are broken up into regions (or constituencies). Each country possesses a government, a Country President, a Congress, political parties, and the ability to wage war, sign alliances/trade deals, issue trade embargoes, make laws, implement taxes, build hospitals, command military, operate banks etc etc.

The eUK.

We're based in the eUK - the New World's fifth largest country, and homeland of the game's most experienced and respected players.

eRepublik Wiki:
The United Kingdom is a nation in the northwest of the continent of Europe. Its capital region, London, lies in the southeast of the island of Great Britain. The United Kingdom is currently composed of the constituent countries of England, Scotland, and Wales on the island of Great Britain, and Northern Ireland on the island of Ireland.

Visit here to view which parties currently run the eUK.

The government is split into two Houses, the House of Commons, and the House of Lords. The eUK is currently a member nation of the ATLANTIS alliance. More on that here.

Politics.

NOTE: We're currently in the process of establishing a political party of our own. You can visit here to participate.

On these days, every country in the New World experiences the following elections:

Party President Elections (15th of every month)
Congress Elections (25th of every month)
Country President Elections (5th of every month)

Party Presidents are the leaders of their political party, and have the ability to select who will run for Congress from their party, select who will represent the party in presidential elections, and can edit party details. To become a Party President, you must campaign for and be elected as such by the Party members on the 15th.

Congressmen vote upon proposals issued by the Country President, and may put their own proposals to vote themselves, to set as law. Aside from this important in-game function, most countries give members of Congress additional responsibility on their forums. To become a Congressman, you must first be approved by your Party President to stand as a candidate, then become elected as such by the citizens of your country's region (constituency) on the 25th.

Country Presidents may propose military treaties, declare war/peace, issue trading embargoes, buy hospitals/defense systems for the nation, and message new citizens - among many other important responsibilities. To become a Country President, you must be the official candidate (picked by your Party President) of one of the top five parties in the country. You must then campaign against and compete with the four other candidates on Election Day, the 5th.

Media.

On your Home page, scroll down, and you'll be able to see the top rated, latest, and international news. These articles are all compiled by journalists from your country and around the world - some of them politicians, generals, presidents, company managers etc. Its always a good idea to keep an eye on what's happening. Subscribe to your favorite newspapers by visiting their article and clicking the button to the right, or give the article your positive vote by clicking on the blue/green box to the left of the title.

Or, for 2 gold, you can create your own newspaper, and build up a host of your own subscribers!

Podcasts, such as this one, are also starting to become a pretty popular trend, too.

Army.

Train every day by visiting "Army" under the My Places tab.

The eUK has two main arms of the army – the Royal Guard and Royal Navy. The guard acts as the defensive arm and the navy (and the paratroopers – elite section of the navy) are the offensive, being sent around the world to aid allies.

Active wars can be viewed by visiting "Military Stats" under the Info tab.

To fight, you must be above 40 wellness. Your effectiveness in battle is determined by your strength, force, rank and weapon (the latter of which can be bought from the MarketPlace). In order to fight, you must be in a region, or relocate to a region, that is either being attacked or staging an assault on an adjacent region. In the case of Mutual Protection Pacts (MPP), however, you may fight for an allied country's region whilst remaining in your homeland.

Visit here for an article on smart fighting.

Business.

Companies dominate the MarketPlace, and banks control the monetary market. Both of these places can be accessed under the "Market" tab. The MarketPlace is where citizens buy/sell products such as food, grain, gifts, wood, diamonds, houses, weapons, iron, moving tickets and oil. The Monetary Markett is where currencies are exchanged, and where the local currency is sold for gold (the international "currency").

For 20 gold, you can create your own company, hire fellow citizens, process raw materials, manufacture goods and make a profit. Companies can also be bought by visiting "Companies For Sale" under the Markets tab. Organizations may also be created for 5 gold, and act as a limited account that several citizens may be allowed to use - for business/political purposes.

Conclusion!

Although this is intended to only stand as a quick at-a-glance look at eRepublik, I hope its given you some extra insight into how the game works. Remember, if you have a question - first consult the very informative eRepublik Wiki, and if you don't find what you're looking for, post your query here!

Once you feel you have gotten a fairly solid grasp of the game mechanics (it may take a while - but you'll get settled in eventually), don't forget to participate in the very vibrant eUK community forums here.

This is probably a dumb noob question.

Near as I can tell, eUK is involved in two wars:

Croatia v Hungary
Brazil v Argentina.

Neither have active battles.

so ... how can we fight to build up hero points if there are no active battles going on?

Well, you can only fight in active battles - and to do so, you must actually travel to the part of the world that is engaged in war, unless its being done so via a Mutual Protection Pact (see the linked noob guide).

Since war is declared, but no battles currently being fought, there is nothing else I'd recommend that you can do to increase your strength/force etc, except train on a daily basis. There are some mercenaries around, but I'd advise that the more complicated activities be saved for a clearer day.

If its of any help, I think in this podcast, some senior eUKers talk a little about how to fight, among other things.
