General Discussion

Tresville

TNPer
We can start the discussion here to lay the groundwork for ideas. Then we can develop them further in threads.

one of the areas in this forum is to do with forum construction, and Tres talks about gathering together "professional who can participate and give us the technical benefits and dismiss any ideas that are not plausible".

To me this seems like putting the cart before the horse - rather like engaging an architect before deciding whether you actually DO want to build an entension to your house.

I feel we should talk first about whether we do actually want to move from z13 to a new board, and the reasons for our opinion. Should that show that there is a majority in favour of a move, THEN we can talk about how and where and who would host.

I know Tres himself favours a forum move, for reasons somewhat unclear to me, but let's not assume that his opinion is the opinion of the region. even the title of that forum area "Forum Construction, Upgrade to a new forum" seems to me to make assumptions, if we are not careful.

Well, if I am to sell the idea of a forum move I would like to be able to have the statistics, info and actually show u something that can get the people excited about constructing a new forum.

I believe in all the previous discussions on this matter I always stated that a forum move would be voted on just like when we moved here.

No assumptions needed as I have not posted my "pitch" and also said prior to this that only super majority support on this should cause us to move.

Forget the cart...neverind the horse...I am showing u a picture of both with all the info. Much like you would sell grandpa on upgrading from his beat up Chevelle to a newer car. He is going to be steadfast, stubborn and probably forget that upgrading benefits those in his family who depend on him and said car.

So please, saying that you don't understand why I feel the way i do (when I ranted about it just a few days ago, spoke to you on IRC and other convos in the past 4 years in regards to forum changes and upgrades) is not valid at all. "Some" also showed interest here and I am just trying to convince more people of the benefit of having a forum upgrade. This is not just me that would like this. Though you insist on making it look that way.

This is a general discussion and I have no problems discussing it here....but I believe we touched upon it to a good extent previously. I am just asking for some time to present the suggestion properly.

Besides, as i said before, a forum move will not save the community...it is simply a step in the right direction and one of a few things we could do to improve the atmosphere in said community and the image of The North Pacific.

I am not stressing the move as the most important part of the Community Revival. I am starting to wonder why this is the first topic you want to discuss here when (IMHO) there are so many other discussions that warrant more attention and can be fruitful in reviving the community.

Hi, I'd like to express my opinion on this matter.

First of all, activity is a good thing. I hope we are all agreed on this. Second, in my opinion the best way to do this is without disrupting too much how things work in TNP. Obviously things have to change, but that doesn't mean that anyone is rebelling or not being appreciative of anything anyone has ever done. I'm sure everyone agrees with me on this as I'm sure everyone who is involved in this discussion has TNP's best interests at heart.

Regarding the new forum, IF has it's limitations, there are probably a lot of benefits to moving to a new board, but I'm not sure if it would be the best decision to move to a different forum. It would definitely alienate some people and whether the benefits would outweigh that I'm not sure. However, until we are presented with numbers and lists and things so we can see exactly what the benefits would be I don't think a decision can be made on this matter. This in my opinion is the responsibility of those who want a new forum.

Regarding expanding to other games. This could definitely work, for many obvious reasons such as giving us more to talk about, raising awareness of TNP and NS, so it could be used for recruitment, etc. This would have to be handled with care, however. Someone said before that NS should always be the flagship game, and this I agree with, but not just in name. If we find a much more interesting game, it's possible that all we will talk about is that game. I'm not sure what the best approach is here, but we should make sure things are still interesting at home.

I'd like to re-iterate at this point what I said in the first paragraph in case anyone forgot it. Activity is good, and I'm sure everyone has TNP's best interests in mind.

Thanks MDH.

Would like to ask if u can cut the part about the Game Endeavors and repost it in the Game Endeavors thread?

You should still be able to edit your post to do this. If you can't I will copy and paste it in the Game Endeavors discussion. Or with your permission, I can edit that part of your post and repost it in the appropriate thread for that discussion.

let me know please, Thanks.

My question is though, when did Syd resign and Tres become Delegate?

Or have I missed something?
No, Flem resigned and Syd is Delegate.

that's odd. Did a reply of mine on this thread get deleted?
Unless You, Gross or Ator deleted it (ADMINS) I know I did not. My masking only allows me to edit not delete posts. You can also check the administrator logs via the Root account that you have access to. I really don't see why u would as that if you know u can check for yourself. :eyebrow:

But I will pm Gross and Ator right now so they can make what I just said Chrystal clear.

PM Sent.
Hey Gross, Ator....was wondering if one or both of u guys can take care of a lil situation found in this thread:

I wonder if you could check the admin logs to see if anyone has deleted any posts in the Revival Forum.  Also if you could confirm that my masking only allows me to edit and not delete posts.

We all know that the Admins decided long ago that we do not delete threads in this forum so I believe this warrants a response from the administration team.

Thanks!

Heh. Never thought of that.
I must have done somehting stupid on posting. Damn annoying - it was a long post.

I feel ya...happens to me too. That's why i love firefox...i noticed if i click a link by mistake and lose what I was writing...I could go back and it will still be there long as I don't close Firefox or close the window.

I also got rid of any mouse that has the extra 2 buttons on its side...i always click those by mistake and it takes me forward or back so I lose what I wrote!!

**Cisco kills the mice**

I haven't deleted any posts, and according to the Admin logs and mod logs there haven't been any posts deleted. (Our policy is that pornspam and moneyspam is deleted where even keep those anywhere might violate IF TOS.)

I did notice that the servers were running slow last night, and it's possible a post might not have gotten posted on the first place.

Well, we were running out of different forums to post in so I'm pleased to see we've got these two totally news ones here. That's great.

I'm not sure what the whole "registration" thing is about really. Could do with explaining why that's necessary. I don't really want any car stickers or cheap pens tbh.

As for reviving the government, my idea is kinda simple:

A. People need to do stuff.
B. Things need to happen.

Right, because if people do stuff, things will happen. And when things happen, that makes stuff for people to do.

How does that sound??

We need women. Dancing girls. A well-staffed kissing booth. Flirts who bring out your natural wit and charm. That stuff makes the forum interesting and entertaining. Don't look at me like that... it's true! In times of prosperity, a lively OOC has been our greatest asset.

As far as government goes, elections *can* be a lot of fun. We have worked hard to preserve a democratic system here. The most important thing an open system does is give folks the opportunity to throw their hats in the ring and run for office. You... yes, YOU can be Delegate. Everyone who hasn't given it a shot yet *should*. Now THAT would make for an exciting campaign season. Go ahead... promise TNP a dancing girl on every pole. ;)

HC u kill me!!

That sounds great. Lets develop that more shall we.

GBM:

Hey Mum!!

Yes we need more womenz damn it. I was going to add pink to the WFE when I was Delegate but North Harmonia has a patent on that in NS! I really don't know what else to do to attract more women in here.

I think we offer that in TNP. I seem to remember posting in the RMB that strippers are in the forum...not even that damn Koala showed so.....I think we need to come up with something more. Specifically, we have a seperate forum here for the discussion on Public Services that the Government can offer. Hope you guys discuss that there.

Ummm...I just realized that you guys are discussing the government in the wrong section. Will fix when I get back.

Not a good idea....the last Emperor we had went rogue. Unless you want to create a Dunk Emperor Norton game...I don't think it will attract people to the forum! lol

Does anyone have any other ideas in regards to reviving the community that we aren't already discussing in one of the topics here?

I have to agree with GBM. A lively OOC will keep a region alive and active. However, it has to be more than just SPAM and include actual, well thought out posts. Not saying that spam is bad, but there needs to be more than that to keep an OOC alive and thriving. Though, coming from Lemuria, some may find me biased on that subject.

One of the things that I know pushed me away from TNP was the incredibly complex government. I know that is what attracts many to TNP, but it scares a lot of people away as well. I always felt like I didn't know enough or couldn't really get involved bc it was too intimidating.

One thing that maybe of interest is a I guess a games coordinator. He could be tasked with creating, and managing various games. Games using chance with a random number generator, games that use the dynamics of the game battleship where you pick a square, and games that use the Today’s World Assembly Rankings, and puppets.

There are various things you could do with this scenario. Tournaments, ect. I am sure many of you know what I am talking about. Many regions have done such things. but maybe have this done on say a weekly basis. Once a week have a game. Every so often you could do something special like region v/s region.

I can understand what you mean, but I do not understand why the governmental roleplay in TNP ought to scare anyone away. If it does not rock your socks, then don't get involved. there have always been players in TNP who have spammed OOC and been oblivious to the government stuff. Just as there have been government ministers who have never visited OOC.

Horses for courses.

This sounds interesting. If people here are interested we can expand on this, create a separate topic.
