Insane Power

Firstly, please accept my apologies, I should not be posting here. I am doing so only because it feels as though I must.

I have no intention to cause harm. I don't play NS anymore.

However, there are certain members here who I believe might wish to know the unfortunate news I am going to post and so I took a risk (a new IP address due to a new real life address allowed me to register, but I accept that I may/can/will be banned as a result).

Anyway, enough with the preamble.

I just wanted to let a few 'old timers' here know that, in the last week or so, Insane Power (IP) has been diagnosed with cancer.

John (IP) will have surgery on this Friday coming and then we wait to here the results of more tests and scans to determine what further treatment (radiotherapy/chemotherapy) he may need.

I have been trying to let old friends know personally but it is an uphill task with many names/emails and I therefore decided to post here publically.

As I said, I have no wish to cause trouble and should the Admins deem it appropriate I will understand if they choose to delete this thread.

I just wanted to let some people know.

Oh, no. I'm sorry to hear that. PM me for my email address.

Let John know he is in my prayers.

Roman (aka Dan)

No Banning, Cathyy. Just immense sorrow and sympathy at the news. I just hope that the surgery and treatment goes well, and that the prognosis is good. He (and you both) will be in my thoughts and prayers this weekend.

Feel free to post further news in this thread without fear of recrimination.

Thank you all so much for your kindness and thoughts.

John had his pre-operative assessment today, which was all fairly routine but went smoothly.

I will update you all on Friday or Saturday.

We're hoping that John will be out of hospital fairly quickly - he certainly wants to be.

The prognosis for the type of cancer he has is good - 95% survive to 5 years or beyond, but we are at the moment in that awful not knowing stage.

We anticipate that we'll get the biopsy result within about 7 days and then we'll knwo what further treatment is involved.

Again, I thank you all, particularly Flemingovia, I did think hard before registering to post, but sometimes real life transcends and I thank you for the opportunity to let those who would wish to know do so in a rather quicker way than trying to find emails.

Again, my thanks, and particularly those who wil pray to whichever is their God for a good result on Friday.

Well I must confess, I never expected to post in TNP again

Thanks for your kind words folks....as I am sure most of you know, I don't 'do' NS anymore, I was a little shocked when Cath told me she had posted here.

As most of you know, I am a stubborn old git, so I will be fine. Feels very odd to be posting here, I must confess.

I have zero idea of what is going on in the game these days and I have no intentions of getting involved, but as Cath said to me I did know quite a few of you quite well.

Thanks David...

All of you take care.

John

I just want to let you know that John had his surgery yesterday. All seemed to go as planned - although we now have to wait a couple of weeks to get the histology results for a final confirmation of what we are dealing with.

The surgeon we saw yesterday re-iterated that he believes it is cancer but that it is, to quote him, 'very amenable to treatment'.

The main thing yesterday for us was that John was able to come home yesterday evening after he'd had the surgery - needless to say he surprised the nurses in recovery by waking up sooner than they expected!

Today he's rather sore but less sleepy than he was yesterday. He's got some pretty hefty pain medication which is helping and now I just have to convince him to rest!!

John has had a CT scan booked for Monday and that, together with the histology results will determine what further, if any, treatment he need.

Anyway, thanks again all

 :console:

Be well, John. Be well soon. I expect to see several embarrassing stories posted concerning your behavior while under the influence of pain meds.

Thank you for letting us know, Cathhy.

Lol Darkesia.....just name your price :)

Actually John is doing pretty well and has stopped the pain meds from the hospital now.

He still gets tired and then gets annoyed because he's tired. Trying to tell him that that is 'normal' and 'expected' doesn't cut a lot of ice!

Anyway, I have another 5 weeks of making sure he doesn't lift anything over 5lbs and we have about another week or so before we get any further results etc.

We had some fantastic news today.

As you might remember John had his surgery almost 6 weeks ago and it took until today for us to see the specialist who would decide his follow up (how can these people even think of having holidays??)

I must admit I've been tearing my hair out the last couple of weeks.

Anyway we finally saw him this afternoon and the news is that John's cancer had not spread anywhere else at all. They are 80% sure he is cured now but have recommended just one dose of chemotherapy which will give 98% certainty of him being all-clear.

He will still need monitoring for the next 5 years but it's certainly better than I at least dared dream.

Once again thank you all for your support!!

You're both in my prayers

That's great news, Cathyy! :)

Sorry I've been a long time absent.

I just wanted to thank everyone for your thoughts and good wishes during the time of John's illness.

He has his chemo and after a slight blip when he was pretty severly anaemic he's now out of the woods on that.

Soon we will go for his first routine check. That will continue for five years but as far as we're both concerned John HAD cancer, past tense :)

Thanks again all.
