Gaspo and I are embarking on a 4 week roadtrip in the Eastern half of the United States. In the US, I have never been east of the Dallas/FW airport or really east of Arizona, so this is a whole new thing for me; Gaspo's been all over so this is a bit less of a new experience for him. We're going to be visiting several people that I already know about, but if I've been stupid and missed you, please tell me and we'll see if we can manage it. :)

We have an itinerary (see below), but we are canvassing for some possible additional ideas or random cool things that people who are local or have visited before might know about. Eccentric stuff, a cool museum or historical site, or just a really pretty scenic drive/walk, those kinds of things.

Also, I'll be carrying along the Jennifer Government book that the first meetup I went to quite awhile ago in San Francisco bought to send to Max, and I figure after touring the US and Britain a bit it'll be time to send it along to Max. :) So come sign the book!!

So, ideas anyone?

Possible meetup locations (2+ days): Washington DC, New York, Chicago, Dallas. Other places *could* work, although it will be hard timewise.

:bunny: is coming to get you. Literally

That is a sexy list. Although technically DC is in the Baltimore area, since Baltimore is bigger. Also Niagara Falls is more Upstate NY than Toronto.

In NY... would also suggest Chinatown, Little Italy, Soho, Greenwich Village, the South St Seaport, Brooklyn Bridge, etc etc etc... You can hit all those in one day easily.

You are a crazy CRAZY person.

Seaport and Chinatown are on the list. Honestly, I don't find Soho or Greenwich all that interesting, but they might appeal to FEC more.

I am hopeful we will get farther than Gaspo's front yard.
I do have a rather glorious front yard....

Let me know where you want to go in South Carolina. I can give you hints at all the good places to go!

Greenwich Village and Soho are great if you want to wander around and blend in with the preps... or stick out amongst the preps.

It's all about the atmosphere, or something.

NYC's atmosphere is rather polluted. I'll get my atmosphere elsewhere, thanks.

As Gaspo said, I have nothing to do with that part. I think I'm touring some dinky towns and seeing all the nature stuff around. Which given he has water nearby, should be lovely. :)

You're stopping by Boston, you say?

Excellent! :bat:
Yes, I'm going to smother you in hugs Elu. And then you will run away. :shifty:

I volunteer my services as a tour guide Eras...for your visit to NYC!!!

Places I suggest:
Macy's: Always has displays and the entire Area around it has nice parks and dining areas.

Bryant Park has free shows early in the morning and in the summer they play classic movies. You can grab a seat on the outskirts of the park and enjoy or get a comfortable blanket and find a spot on the lawn. Its right behind the Library so u can kill 2 birds with one stone.

Lincoln Center: Is always having free events, educational and cultural events, that you will love.

Staten Island Ferry: Nice short ride, free and you get to see the statue of liberty from a nice distance.

Central Park: You should devote an entire day to this. So much to do in the area.

Sony Wonder: Website has the info. Its near the Apple Store, FAO Swartz and Columbus Cirlce.

South Street Sea Port: It has plenty of stores, restaurants and attractions to keep you entertained. This entire area is fun to wander in. They usually close areas off and have street fairs, bazzars, etc.

Tons more to do...you should plan that carefully!

Cisco showing us around New York... I'm a bit nervous.

As much as I like the cities, I like the nature stuff a bit more cause it reminds me of home, so I'm looking forward to Central Park and such. Parks yay!

Well, to relax u...I can just guide u via messenger! I'll get Gaspo a mask since he is afraid of our pollution!

I don't think u will feel like home in our parks. A lot of people in them. Though you may see one of our famous hawks in Central Park...Pale Male.

I'm fine with other people in a park, it's more the ability to have nature there. And does your comment mean you won't come meet with us Cisco? :(

I live there. The SC bit is already planned. ;)
Ooooh. I didn't know you lived in SC.

NC here - about 2 miles from the NC/SC border.

North Carolina - where "South of The Border" means substantially cheaper cigarettes and gas, but higher auto insurance rates!"

If you time it right, you can hit the Blue Ridge BBQ Festival in Tryon. Too bad you missed the Blockhouse Steeple Chase - you could have seen Ol' Roman clean up on the betting! :noangel:

Bah, this in NYC man! We'll just have to stick to teen night!!! lol if u have a college ID I can get u into the college bars by NYU...and Webster Hall has regular 18 and over nights.

I have already asked for time off on the day(s) of your visit. I got those dates from a curiously cute dog who might actually have been cuter without the hat. Since it's been a while since I was 19, I will ask my daughter what there is to do around here for a 19 year old during the summer. Hopefully she won't just look at me out of the top of her eyes and say "nothing legal." ;) lol

Edit: You are missing the Chicago Air and Water Show by one weekend. Ah well, you will just have to come back!

Edit some more: It takes less than 4 hours to get from that place in Windsor that all cool people must visit to my house.

If you're visiting Philadelphia, I suggest you visit these areas:

National Constitution Centre
Independence Seaport Museum / USS New Jersey, and the other two ships nearby...

Boathouse Row

South Street

Centre City

Penn Bookstore on UPenn's campus

the ENIAC museum in UPenn..

Chinatown - try out Penang - good Chinese/Malaysian restaurant - really popular place :)

Sadly, few people live in my area now *sigh* :ADN:

Since you'll be in Old Forge, NY for Water Safari you could hop right over to Nicks Lake, which has a few nice hikes. I would also like to recommend going to Adirondack Pizzeria (just off main street). It's not even for the pizza really, though it is good, but because of the guy who owns and operates it. He is a genius and a wonder to talk to.
