Global Climate Change (GCC)

I am trying to gauge the attitude in the region regarding this subject before moving forward with a co-authored proposal for the World Assembly. Debate concerning the issue is welcomed as that also help me determine how important an issue this is to people.

Seconded but levity aside, I like to play the pascal's wager on this:

Lets say that global warming or more accurately climate change isn't affected by human made pollution and we do reduce our carbon production by half...

We'll have a world with less air pollution, less smog days, less kids with asthma and people with lung cancer, and cheaper inexhaustible energy supplies.

What do we have to lose by being cleaner and more fuel efficient compared to the alternative? Which is to do nothing.

I'm not even going to waste my breath because the actual scientific data shows we have been cooling for the last seven years and that the past year has been the coldest year globally in the last 168 years.

As per 'alternative fuels' - if there were any out there that were more efficient than fossil and nuclear (and therefore a larger profit-margin on production) you had better believe that it would be in use. "Bio Fuels" like ethanol only serve to make extreme Enviro-Kooks fell better about themselves while the starve millions to death by forcing up the price of cereal grains.

The whole point is that cheap energy supports civilization and if the fuel becomes too expensive, the world as we know it will no longer exist.

Of course we could all abandon modern technology and go back to living like this:

Pfft, just an excuse for the council to hike up taxes and make more cash on some sort of green bandwagon. I voted for natural cycle. The Romans used to grow grape vines in Britain. Then in the Middle Ages the Thames froze over. And so on. [/cynicism]

Ohh, I think there might be a few more potent producers of hot air they might go for first...

IRL I think GCC is both natural and man made (man is part of nature afterall) and I think we should be investing in technologies to help us survive the inevitable changes instead of wasting time trying to undo what can't be undone.

Yeah, like McCain, Clinton and Barack (He whose middle name shall not be mentioned) Obama.

I can list a number of factual reasons why man-made global warming is a total farse implemented for political gain by leftist international socialists 'one-worlders':

1. The statistical data shows that the Earth is in a cooling phase. For seven years or more the global average temperature is falling significantly. The past year has been the coolest it has been in 168 years.

2. The polar icecap was the largest it has ever been in recorded history this last winter.

3. The ice-roads to islands in Lake Superior lasted twice as long as they ever had in recorded history.

4. Snow cover in the northern hemisphere was at an all time high.

5. The polar bears aren't drowning - their population is at an all-time high.

6. Al Gore lied. CO₂ levels in the atmosphere are an indicator of global temperatures, not a cause of global warming. What happens when you heat carbonated water? The CO₂ gases out.

7. It's been a hell of a lot warmer in the past, and every time it got warmer human civilization prospered. No one ever got killed by warmer global temperatures, but they did when it got colder. Can you say 'The Little Ice Age" that led to the Black Plague?

8. CO₂ is not a pollutant of any significant value, and that includes man-made CO₂. What should the human race do to save the planet? Go out and suffocate every animal on the planet and then stop breathing? Perhaps put corks in volcanoes? Cut down the Amazon Rain Forest because the rotting vegetation and VOCs are 'causing global warming'? Save the planet - breathe only half as much.

9. Water vapor is the primary 'green house gas' that regulations global temperatures. Let's abolish water vapor. In fact, let's just dump a layer of hemp oil on the ocean to stop all that vile water from evaporation and causing global warming. ;D

10. Science is science, consensus (no matter how it is arrived at) is opinion.

11. Man Made Global Warming is being pushed by Al Gore so he can sell everyone 'Carbon Credits' so he can alleviate his guilt for insanely polluting (he can afford to buy carbon credits while those of us who aren't rich can't and thus must cut back and suffer) by flying around in his private jet blowing farts and hot air and feeling good about himself. Al Gore is an elitist pig who wants everyone else but him to cut back. More money for him.

12. Man-Made global warming is a spherical load of crap - it looks the same from all directions: like a load of crap.

How the heck-fire did the Little Ice Age lead to the Black Death? Bearing in mind the Black Death first arrived in Europe in 1347, whereas the peak of the Little Ice Age occured centuries later from roughly the 1500s - the 1800s?

Oh, and if you haven't seen it; The Great Global Warming Swindle is a very good watch on this issue.

Put me in the "GW is bunk" camp. We've had Ice Ages in the past, and we got out of them without SUVs, farting livestock, or even blusterous politicians. Climate changes, with or without our help, and the "science" I've heard for GW is not too convincing.

Considering the winter I had, I'm not even convinced that GW is a bad thing!
