There used to be some gameplay restrictions that the mod placed on delegate wars, in the form of curtailing banjections. These restrictions have since been replaced by influence, giving rise to a kind of "do whatever you can get away with" philosophy.

In my opinion this climate has spread from the regional control to the WFE and RMB, and thence to the offsite fora, in a certain decrease of etiquette. The terms of service of our board host are still in effect, but not very effective in limiting the abuse.

This is a disturbing development. As a political game, I would enjoy playing this far more if we were playing our outrage and condemnation, rather than hating the guts of people in real life. This is a very expansive roleplay, on multiple, complex layers - multiple characters playing other characters, alliances, secret conversations, public conversations on multiple media - but it is a game.

Perhaps if we followed a certain code of conduct, the game would be more fun and less frustrating?

Please discuss. :)

Whoops. I only saw this topic just now, which essentially argues the same.

You can treat this topic as a more OOC discussion than one that will lead to legislation or censorship. I would like some kind of agreement of behaving civilly that doesn't have to be accompanied by deleting posts or ejecting nations.

If anyone sees anything in need of moderation, by all means pm a mod or admin at once.

As far as a code of conduct, I do have a tip to pass along. Avoid the use of the 2nd person singular pronoun "you." Try it and see! :D

That is a very interesting tip. I can just about see it working. Thank--- thanks for that. ( :D )

My criticism was not so much of things in need of moderation, but rather that moderation should not be the ultimate line of conduct - that even some behavior that does not violate any rule could be informally discouraged. ;)

At the end of the day, its not the game that makes people hateful. Thats their own fault for not realising its a game and getting over it.

Yeah, you should see some of the conversations me and Gates have outside of character, and he tells me that the same applies to the other TNPers he regularly talks to.

On the other hand, there are a few Crimsons who are generally a bunch of jerks in and out of character, as anyone who is on IRC on a regular basis can attest, so it really all depends on the individual.

I have great OOC conversations with a lot of people in NS. Fortunately 99% of them don't take it personally the IC stuff, that is. ;D
