Legal Code

I propose to remove the Sedition clause from the Legal Code because, frankly, many TNP members including myself, JAL, and others could technically be considered of sedition since the law was so vague.

Section 3: Sedition
A - "Sedition" is defined as an intentional attempt on the official forums or within the NationStates region "The North Pacific" to incite the Nations of The North Pacific to revolt in a manner not sanctioned by the Constitution.

As you can see, "revolt" is not well defined, and if the government had not been so inactive, all our publicity stunts to show that the government was inactive could have been considered sedition. In addition, a particularly authoritarian government could use this clause to clamp down on any criticism of the TNP government.

TNP Law 22, as it stands, was included in continuance with the new Constitution:

1. Upon passage of this document as an amendment to the previous Constitution, all legislation previously passed is nullified, except for TNP Laws 1, 2, 6, 14, 22, and 23 (previous to the passage of this Constitution), which shall each be entered into the Legal Code as laws.

However, you could present an amendment concerning the sedition clause.

Here's the existing sedition clause for reference:

Section 3: Sedition
A - "Sedition" is defined as an intentional attempt on the official forums or within the NationStates region "The North Pacific" to incite the Nations of The North Pacific to revolt in a manner not sanctioned by the Constitution.

It is vague, and the Constitution doesn't provide any sanctioned manner for revolt *chuckles* and it's potentially in conflict with the Bill of Rights.

2. Each Nation's rights to free speech, free press, and the free expression of religion shall not be infringed, and shall be encouraged, by the governmental authorities of the region. Each Nation has the right to assemble, and to petition the governmental authorities of the region.....

4. No Nation of The North Pacific holding UN member status in NationStates shall be obligated to endorse any official of a government authority of the region.....
