Consulate of Red Sox Nation

yes - thank you very much haor chall! this is great! :)
Here are some links:

YOUR CONSULATE - please come visit so we can get to know you!

Our main forum - go ahead and register, look around, enjoy :)

Here is a brief description of RSN so you can get to know us better:

We are hovering at about 85 nations now but growing steadily - a high percentage of these nations are active on our wonderful forum, which has accumulated over 42,000 posts since about November of last year!

Our government is a solid democracy with a Constitution, Legislative system, and Court system. We have a six-person elected government (called the Regional Council), each in charge of looking after one aspect of the region, and one elected High Justice (independent judge). Bills can be proposed by any citizen - and these are voted on by all citizens, including the Regional Council.

Militarily we are in limbo right now... but are working towards an identity. Most likely in the future we will be a neutral region - but open to helping allies or other regions in need. This point is still under debate however.

Contrary to popular belief, we are not a "baseball-obsessed" region. Half the people in RSN do not know a thing about baseball, and that's fine. Really - the "Red Sox" have little to do with the running of the region. That said, there are a ton of Sox fans and we talk baseball a lot.

RSN has a partly-government-run newsletter we send out to allies - called the Red Sox Report - written partly by Winstonopia. We also produce two newspapers for all RSN residents to enjoy - the RSN Times (independent news) and RSN Wanka (tabloid/makes fun of government) which are written mostly by My Urinary Tract.

We are not too active in UN affairs and generally do not propose resolutions or anything. We do have many UN nations and, as a democracy, do NOT force UN nations on NS to endorse our delegate. In fact, we don't have a separately elected UN delegate - we use the natural endorsement system from NationStates. Our UN delegate has no power on the forum and is kept separate from the government.

The biggest and best part of RSN is our "culture". We love to discuss, debate, and argue over, well, anything. We talk sports, real-life issues, politics, abortion, stem cells, girls vs. boys, whatever! The "General Discussion" and "Sports" section of the forum are very popular. We avidly play games and spam to our heart's content sometimes is an effort to have a good time. RSN is a really fun place!

Some names you might want to know (positions subject to change):

Winstonopia - Foreign Affairs Minister, original founder of RSN. Avid sports fan (Red Sox, obviously) - also proposes tons of legislation. American.

My Urinary Tract - Highest poster on forum, insanely active on our forum and those of our allies. Can be cynical - but means well. British.

Georgdem - Recruiting GOD, very involved in regional affairs and foreign affairs. British.

Alyss - Admin of forum, member since the beginning, current Internal Affairs Minister. Rarely active outside of RSN but important contact if you are having forum difficulties.

Southern Acre - Current president, active throughout forum, long-time member of RSN. Also a person you want to talk to if you have any forum problems/general questions.

Inc-red-ible fact: 66% of RSN's UN nations have endorsed our delegate, Diesel 10 - even though we don't demand or even request that they do so!

1. Our newly elected interim Vice President, Physics Part II, has enthusiastically started his job. He aims to tackle off-topic posting in government areas. Also, our High Justice (judge) was elected this week. The returning judge Yisroell was voted out of office in favor of Teredona. Teredona already has a case to deal with - as president Southern Acre has taken My Urinary Tract to court.

2. RSN's new Alliance Act, which can be seen HERE, establishes the procedure for gaining official alliances with RSN rather than just a consulate. Official alliances may only be revoked by the foreign region or with a 66% vote of the General Assembly.

3. RSN has started to plan a party for our regional one-year birthday, coming up on November 28th. Georgdem has started brainstorming ideas and wants to get foreign regions as involved as possible in the celebrations! We invite all of you to our forum (as we always do) and there will be activities that day that will be lots of fun. Early ideas include a recruiting drive - and for foreign regions we are going to have a "Region Elimination Game" where you will need to come and defend your region before it gets eliminated! If you have had successful celebrations in the past and have an idea that might be fun that day, please tell us! Thanks

Presidential Address
Recently, our Vice President, The Western Mountain, was dismissed and was replaced for inactivity. He has recently returned to the forum to apologise for his failure to execute his duties, citing huge ammounts of work from school and other real life issues that kept him from being active.

I think that there is a lesson to be learned from his absense and replacement. As RED SOX NATION move forward into a great and active future, we need to remember one thing about NationStates. It's only a game. Activity is stressed in NationStates as without it, jobs cannot be completed and duties cannot be fufilled; however, everyone must remember that real life comes first. If NationStates is taking a toll on your real life, you need to slow down.

I think Western Mountain set a solid example for people who are overloaded and overstressed by remembering that its only a game.

With the termination of relations with the Land of Kings and Emperors, we have had some controversy over whether we should befriend invader regions. While the members of LKE seem like fine people who are very nice to talk to, they are invaders, and that is what we need to keep in mind. When the RC made this decision, I was glad of it, as I am anti-invasion. It would be foolish of us to align ourselves with a region that has such a controversial policy. It is better for our region as a whole to cut off relations now. However, I must say that it is quite foolish that we had relations in the first place.

I mean, seriously, there is no excuse for our Foreign Affairs Minister, Winstonopia, to have not realized this. From what I have heard and seen, it is common knowledge that LKE are invaders. I respect and support Win’s policy in regards to invaders, but this is kind of ridiculous. It makes you wonder just how much research he did before making contact with LKE, and how many such foolish mistakes have been made by our government officials in the past few months, let alone in the past year.

This week has seen the start of preparation for Founders Day 2006. I myself have taken on the role of leading the preparations. Founders Day was proposed a while ago by myself and it had a very good response. I then created the legislation ‘The Patriotism Act’ and we now celebrate founder’s day on the 23rd of November. This year it will be a Tuesday and there will be plenty of events going ahead. I have listed a few of them here:
-Recruitment Drive in the week leading up to Founders day
-Ambassador Party and Regional Elimination Game
-Regional MSN conversation
-Proposed closing of the General Assembly and Polling Station
This year Founders Day is going to be massive. I am hoping this will be remembered as the greatest day in RSN’s history.

Inc-red-ible Fact: The highest posting RSN Diplomat is Eternal Moon Child from the Great Land of the Moon - she has 101 posts!

1. RSN is seriously considering our first true alliance. This week, an alliance will most likely be proposed between RSN and The Great Land of the Moon. The deciding factor has been the tremendous support and activity on our forum from TGLM. Once the bureaucratic mess gets sorted out, an alliance should be on the way.

2. The RSN army, the Red Guard, is in disarray. Leadership is nonexistant and the army has almost fallen apart. Nobody doubts that if a region is in need, RSN's UN nations will immediately answer the call and help. That said, mobilizing is going to be a difficult task. We have no First General (inactive...), few nations signed up, and no clear picture of what needs to be accomplished. Admin Alyss hopes to run for FG this coming term and get the army's discipline back where it needs to be.

3. Discussion was intense in the General Assembly recently as many citizens got fed up with the messy forum. With so few mods and so much posting, a day or two of absence by the Vice President and Alyss can create chaos. Citizens have been calling for more moderators in more places, meaning that confusion will go up (temporarily) but cleanliness should reign.

News Bulletins
- We are hoping to get a total of 3,000 posts in one day - Founder's Day - November 28th - BE THERE!
- Fantasy basketball league started with a small draft problem - now sorted out and ready to go
- Congrats to the St. Louis Cardinals - next year the Sox win!
- Today is the first day in weeks where no bill or poll is up to be voted on in the Polling Station
- EU elimination game down to 3 nations! Malta, Sweden, and the UK remain

Earlier this week an issue was brought up in the case of "RSN vs. My Urinary Tract". In the case the high justice tride to pressure the prosecutor and the defense attorney to share evidence, but the prosecutor stated that HJ didn't have the authority to do so. The question is this: "Can people in positions of power have other powers not explicitly stated within the constitution or other laws?" In my opinion I think they should, provided nessecary checks are in place. Had the HJ had the implied power to force attorneys to share their evidence with each other this trial would have been moving faster than the snails pace it currently is.

This week the elections are upon us. There are calls for longer terms, which I can only support. Two months is just not long enough, I think three would be much better. At this rate we are going through six elections a year, whereas with three we would be limited to just four. Each election, from the start of nominations to the end of voting, lasts about fifteen days. That means 90 days a year are wasted on elections. All this time could be spent doing much more useful things that are actually necessary, such as recruiting! Six elections is far too much. As a personal note, I will hopefully be standing in the elections! And I have a role in mind... I will leave you to wonder!

Evening, gentlemen. I'm Micky, the new Foreign Affairs Minister of Red Sox Nation. I know that the existing relationship between our two nations isn't exactly steady, but I hope to strengthen it, first off, by making our consulates a bit more active.

I look forward to getting to know you all better.

hey TNP... you all seriously HAVE to come on over to RSN - we haven't seen you in a while! anyway, I'm departing as Foreign Affairs Minister and will take up another role in government. After today you will have a new FAM - her name is Micky. Hopefully RSR's will keep coming!

Elections begin on November 12th... are you ready????

1. More in-depth election coverage is below... but an important trend is the troubling fact that only one of RSN's 6 government seats is being contested this term! This isn't out of a lack of activity or potential members - but 5 of the 6 positions were uncontested because no one wanted the position or because people felt they could not do the job effectively enough. Utract, who you all know, decided to sit out this round of elections completely.

2. The new Regional Council of RSN will be: Pres - look below... Vice President - Physics Part II, Internal Affairs Minister - Winstonopia, Foreign Affairs Minister - Micky, First General - Alyss, Immigration Officer - Diesel 10. Congratulations! Good luck!

3. The last thing I did in my term as FAM was to secure some ambassadors to regions (not done yet). Some regions we know have ambassadors. If your region has one, please get to know them! If you are not sure if your region has an ambassador, check HERE. Thank you!

News Bulletins
- EU Elimination game down to Sweden and the UK!
- Fantasy football and basketball up and running
- Yesterday was Rememberance day... so remember!
- Congrats to the Dems in the US for the midterm wins
- RSN founder's day is the 28th... get on our forum (we're going for 3000 total posts for the day)
- Many RSN citizens are calling for the removal of consulates of regions who are not active on our forum SO PLEASE COME CHECK OUT YOUR CONSULATE ON OUR FORUM!!!
Presidential Race In-Depth
The race for president is between incumbent Southern Acre and newcomer Georgdem. This is being furiously debated HERE. Here are quotes from the candidates and from others in RSN sharing their views (you may want to skip this if you are skimming... it's pretty long...):

Georgdem: " Tony Blair said before the election of his first term that his policy is education, education, education. I shall follow in his footsteps by saying immigration, immigration, immigration." SA: "In my next term I will also focus on three things, recruitment, diplomatic relations, and a stronger army. I have confidence in my Immigration Offcier to rectruit and I will help if she needs it. In Diplomatic Relations, I have been active on other regions forums and will continue to do so. I hope that we will be able to move towards even more written alliances to benefit the region." Georgdem: "I believe past presidents of this region have lacked in passion and patriotism for red sox nation." Southern Acre: "I am extermely patriotic, just because I dont display it over zealously like you dosent mean I am not patriotic. I am sure that one of the regions founding fathers, as well as writer of two of the regional consititutions, including the current, government offical since the beginning of the region, President for four terms, and author of many intergal pieces of legislation such as the Judicial Act has a large ammount of patriotism. My and Winstonopia's legislative contributions alone have built the majority of this regions government system. " Win (me!): "I am kind of split obviously... I can see how EF, Virtall, and to a point SA see Gdom's enthusiasm as childish and annoying. But, it is enthusiasm. Gdom is really trying hard to improve RSN and means best for the region. He's not a power-hungry maniac attempting to drive the region into the ground. That said, Gdom is frequently over-zealous in his energized state and ends up taking extra responsibilites and privileges for himself." Georgdem: "To make this region as great as it can be, we need to make it known in NationStates. The best way to this is by opening consulates, embassies and making alliances with foreign regions. " Alyss: "SA has proven himself time and time again as a patriotic, active, intelligent and wise member of our region. I do not feel G is on a similar level " SA: "You know nothing about RSN law at all, you bill included such clauses as "a hefty jail time would be given out". If you had even read the constitution, or just used some common sense, you would realize that there is no such thing as jail online!" Georgdem: " I think the President needs to be in touch with foreign leaders more. This help make the region more than a close-knit non-outsider community, but great friends with other regions. Hopefully we can share intelligence and help make the game a better place." Diesel10: "The great thing about what [Georgdem] has to say is that all of this stuff was generally honest. Will he be able to be as active as he will probably need to be in order to get all this stuff done? Maybe, maybe not. " SA: "Gdom and his crazed patriotism really does nothing, it even negativley impacts the region." Micky: "his lack of experience in comparison to [Southern Acre] could be a matter to take into consideration. " Georgdem: "I would encorpoate SA as a presidential advisor and chief of staff. I think he deserves a senior role in the government and his knowledge is valuable to the region. " SA: "Simply, I can tell you that if you elect me, you will have good fair government led by an experienced government member who has been with RSN from the beginning. There will be increased regional activity, more activity among RC members, and more autonomy to run their departments, and overall a better RSN. If you elect G, I have no doubt that RSN will decline, as a clueless and dictatorial notioned President takes over. " Georgdem: "I do not think a region can stick with veterans. Just because someone is expierienced and very good does not mean somebody who has less expierience can be better. A region will never change for the better by just sticking to the old guys. Youth is needed. " Win: "Overall I think we have two very solid candidates that are loyal and committed to RSN. They are both good leaders and mean the best for the region. So; stick with SA or bring in the new blood???? "

This week the issue of giving nations titles in return for activity has come up for debate. The plan was to use the British System e.g. Sir, Lord, Earl… This was disregarded by most members of the regional council, these, most surprisingly, being the Americans. Our President was quoted saying, “Democracy doesn’t recognise royalty.” I have to disagree. There are many democracies with royalty in NationStates and the real world. I have now adopted this system unofficially as part of the points system used by the Map Office, and to be kicked off on Founders Day by the Founders Day Office. I hope it is a success. After all imagine being called Duke Georgdem…

NOTICE: I apologize again for not having a RSR issue last week - I did not print one out of protest because writers did not send in their articles... I would like to thank all regions for receiving this publication and reading and responding. My term as Foreign Affairs Minister has come to an end and the future of the Red Sox Report is now in the hands of the new Foreign Affairs Minister, Micky. So I might continue writing it or she may take control - we shall see in the coming weeks. The RSR might be suspended until we sort this out... but over the last 13 weeks I think the RSR has done a tremendous job of informing other regions about Red Sox Nation and fostering communication between regions, don't you think? Thank you again, sincerely
Winstonopia

News Stories
Written by Winstonopia

1. Our new elected president, in a close but decisive vote, is Southern Acre, returning for another term. Georgdem is disappointed but determined to continue to help RSN and come back strong next elections. Congrats to both candidates for a great and entertaining race.

2. Founder's Day is coming up for RSN. This will be the 1-year anniversary of the day I founded the region, November 26th. Next sunday, no matter what time zone you are in, please come to our forum!!! We will have a regional party, with much to do and a ridiculous amount of activity. Conservative estimates are 5,000 total posts for the one day!! Highlighted is a regional elimination game, where you will have to stand up for YOUR region here on our forum! Please encourage all of your region to come! Thank you!

3. A recent spike in recruiting has led to a host of new nations joining RSN. Unfortunately, none of these new nations have joined the forum, but hope is still rampant. Immigration Officer Diesel 10 has led the charge and we hope to hit 100 nations very soon. Forum activity is also up - 1 or 2 thousand posts a day is not hard to get.

News Bulletins
- Future invading/defending outlook being debated
- RSR jobs reshuffled and look set for future
- Many consulates have picked up in activity thanks to renewed relations and efforts by many RSN citizens to talk to our allies more
- First alliance with The Great Land of the Moon about to be proposed
- Michigan should have won. :(

Great Regions Think For Themselves

Here in the Red Sox Nation, we take pride in being active, outgoing, and all around original. Of course, in order to remain up to date with our unique way of running things, we constantly look into other Regions and compare their methods to our own.

After being appointed the FAM in the most recent elections, I have spent a lot of time in foreign Regions, and something in particular has caught my eye; the live chat.

This is a window in which the members of the forum communicate much like they would on a messaging system (AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ect.), and is located either at the top or bottom of the forum. The live chat is often used for small talk or off topic subjects, but also for important debates as a way of less complicated communication. Unfortunately, these messages don’t do anything for the forum post count, something that RSN is very competitive about.

I do believe that this live chat is the main reason that RSN members have posts counts at are almost double most of those in other forums. Either that, or our notorious talent for spamming. Either way, it’s just one more thing that makes RSN the great place it is.

This week in RSN we have been talking about ways to make our region more exciting. In his “Open Letter to the People of RSN,” member My Urinary Tract discussed how while we have formed a fantastic region, we have also reached a point at which the government role-play aspect of the game has become stagnant for us. Loads of ideas came in, including setting up an inter-regional system of mock role-play. While this is still in the very early stages of discussion, it was one of the better ideas, and it would also be something that could invigorate our region. Another idea that has been brought up, and that we are trying to institute in our fine region, is writing some issues to submit to the game. This could be a lot of fun and will also help to get the name of RSN out there if we are successful. While some ideas have been better than others, it is great that everyone is so enthusiastic to be at least discussing this, and in the coming months, many positive changes will be taking place in RSN, if only to mix it up a bit and make the political part of Nationstates more fun for the nations already in RSN, as well as for potential new members.

There has been much talk about opening a university here in RSN. At first I was skeptical about the idea because of the mostly informal communication within the region (i.e. off-topic posting), but after much thought the idea has started to appeal to me. This would hopefully bring new ideas to help this Grand Experiment I call RSN grow in a new direction: where both members both old and new, foreign diplomats, and visitors freely engage in open debate.

Please give me feedback, questions, comments, or suggestions. Thanks, and go Sox!
