The Right to Form Unions
A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.

Category: Human Rights
Strength: Significant
Proposed by: Groot Gouda

Description: REGRETTING the repeal of UN Resolution #38: The Rights of Labor Unions, and wishing to improve the original resolution,

DETERMINED to provide protection for all workers in all UN member nations,

CONVINCED that this is best provided on a national level through the formation of Unions,

FURTHER CONVINCED that Unions will improve the working conditions and with that production,

The NS UN

1. RESOLVES that all nations must recognize the right for every citizen in a UN member nation to form or join Unions for the purpose of collective representation of workers, and the right of those Unions to establish and join federations and confederations of Trade Unions, both nationally and internationally,

2. ESTABLISHES the right of all workers in all UN member nations to go on strike; employers are allowed to withhold wages of workers while they are on strike, but it is not a reason to fire a worker,

3. EXEMPTS from the right granted in clause 2:
a. Strikes by personnel of the armed forces;
b. Strikes not authorized by a union;
c. Strikes which directly endanger the life of citizens in a nation, such as but not limited to medical and police personnel;

4. MANDATES that for the workers who are not allowed to go on strike, independent arbitration is provided whose decision shall be carried out by all parties in the conflict,

5. URGES all national governments to have regular talks with representatives from the Unions to keep wages and working conditions at a fair level,

6. AFFIRMS the right of Unions and their national and international organisations to be free from interference by the public authorities when drawing up their constitutions and rules, electing their representatives, organizing their administration and activities, and formulating their programs; nations have the right to insist on minimum democratic standards within unions,

7. FORBIDS discrimination based on Union-membership where employment is concerned: non-members and members should have equal opportunities in being hired, work assignment, promotion and trainings regardless of Union-membership,

8. DECLARES that Unions must respect national law, and that national laws shall not be made to impair the guarantees provided for in this resolution.

The proletariat MUST be protected for the explotations of the upper class that controls the means of production.

FOR.

EDIT: The quote that states my views can be found here.

The Empire of Yahooy2U is AGAINST The Right to Form Unions

I found a quote that perfectly states my views:

Milton Friedman (Nobel Prize winning economist):
If unions raise wage rates in a particular occupation or industry, they necessarily make the amount of employment available in that occupation or industry less than it otherwise would be-just as any higher price cuts down the amount purchased. The effect is an increased number of persons seeking other jobs, which forces down wages in other occupations. Since unions have generally been strongest among groups that would have been high-paid anyway, their effect has been to make high-paid workers higher paid at the expense of lower-paid workers. Unions have therefore not only harmed the public at large and workers as a whole by distorting the use of labor; they have also made the incomes of the working class more unequal by reducing the opportunities available to the most disadvantaged workers. ("Capital and Freedom" 1962. p. 124)

Direct from the Capital:

The House of Citizens, after taking a vote of its members, does hereby officially give its support for the resolution to formally support "The Right to Form Unions"  King Henry VI has certified his agreement to this decision so the current stance of the nation is FOR this resolution.

I remember voting against the repeal of "Rights of Labor Unions". WOrkers should have the right to a clean and safe working environment, with wages that are sufficent to support themselves. I really don't see how they are guaranteed that unless legislation like this is in place.

IN FAVOR

The right to Form Unions is not such a bad idea. However, if you support this proposal you would also,

*be putting a unfair work load on the Management teams for Corparations during times of Strike.

*Union's don't pay taxes.

*Stirkes can lower profits for a company that has been targeted, by teamsters from other Union's boycoting that company.

*Teamsters family's would be put on Unemployment, because they are not paid while on strike.

So my vote, if I get into the Union while voting is still going on, would be NO!!!!!

I am most definently in favour of this resolution. I have to go with Blackshear, I'm not in the greatest mood to argue right now either.

Voting on this resolution has ended.

Thanks to those nations who cast their votes. Your participation is a great help to the region.
