Monopoly!

I have an idea -- I don't know whether it will work out very well, but here goes.. a sort of Virtual Monopoly.

Here's how it would work -- each game, 4 players join me (the banker/host) and on each person's turn, I will "roll" for the person and say what board space they landed on, etc etc. After each cycle of turns, I would also post an update of what properties are free and who owns what. Chance and Community Chest cards would work the same way -- I would draw one from the stack and post what it says.

I could go into the detailed rules when people are interested, but basically if you win, you would get a reward in terms of posts/TNP dollars. HOWEVER, I don't think I would award you your entire winnings converted to TNP dollars 1 for 1, because that would be too obscene.

I got this idea partially by realizing that we have most of the colors for the properties available on the text options here on the forum. That way, posting available properties, etc. will result in players having an easier time looking at what's going on.

I LOVE Monopoly. I play it all the time with my kids. One of our favorite parts is auctioning off properties. Can we translate that into an online game? Either set it up with a closing date/time or have everyone PM the banker maximum bids?
One more consideration..... IRL it takes hours to play, whats it going to take online, 6 months? :tb1:

And since I assume you'llbe using the actual gameboard to do this, do you have a backup plan in case something bad happens?

:noangel: Wow what a coincidence I just happen to have a board you can use :w00t:

Psst... "NP Tax" should by 75.00, and you forgot income tax.

Sounds good. If there's still room, I'm in.

GBM -

The auctioning off of properties is a wrinkle that I did not yet think about because I wasn't planning to play with t he auction variation (that is, you can decline to buy something when you land on it and the property will not go up for auction). If we don't do auctions, then there's nothing that's "time-sensitive".

I'll post the rules/variations I have in mind, to see if the few people that said they were interested for Game 1 are still interested --

- Standard Jail stuff: You can either pay the $50 fine or attempt to roll doubles. If you don't roll doubles by your third attempt, you automatically pay the $50 and move that number of spaces.
- Everyone starts with $1500 of course.
- Free Parking is just that -- free. You don't collect any fines for landing there: that gets too obscene.
- No auctions (as previously mentioned). The only exception is that if one player goes bankrupt, then I might allow the auctioning of that player's properties. But there are no "have to buy unowned properties or else auction them" situation.
- You must build evenly. To make things easier/less chaotic, you may ONLY build houses on your turn.
- You'll have to put up with a low-tech version, ie. no image of the board, unless you count the one already posted. To compensate, I'll be posting each person's properties and cash totals at every round.

Puckton -

What do you mean by something bad happening? Like my Monopoly board at home gets stolen? :P

If you wanna name any of them just holla and Ill add the names to each property.

Hmm..

I wouldn't be averse to creating two games simultaneously.

AI, GBM, and Ator in this thread and Byard, Puckton and Hers in another thread.

I'll probably get the games rolling sometime this afternoon/tonight. Until I get more creative/TNP names for the spaces, we'll go with the traditional names.

Before you start, I'd be selling of those street squares to interested parties, make a nice little bit of cash for the state.

I can see it now, dashing round the board, buying a house on Ator Avenue, desperately avoiding the hotel complex on Puckton Place, before losing it all on an unlucky roll into Byard Boulevard.

Or something...

*dreams of playing Risk on a TNP board... "You can't win the game by trying to take the Flemingovian Sub Continent, too many ways to attack, you want to start with seizing the Hersfold Archipelago..."*

Hersfold Edit: OY! Leave my little islands alone! :P

Ykno that's a good idea..

Anyone who wants to submit a name, either do it via PM or in this thread. I'll set the price at $1000, or free if there are nations that are poorer than $1000.

When you post/submit your name, indicate if the $1000 price is OK.

You can submit one name for any of the 21 property spaces on a standard board,
excluding the "railroad" and "utility" spots, because I get to name those :P .

Actually, I will take Nam's suiggestions of Ator Avenue, Puckton Place, and Byard Boulevard, so there are 18 spots open. You can also tell me if you have a "color" preference for where your property is located.

EDIT: And of course Ator, Puckton or Byard you can tell me color preferences as well.

Verified spaces on the board now include (updated as we go along):

Hersfold Avenue, Apollo Avenue

Puckton Place, Byardwalk

Ator Avenue, (on board, color to be determined).

Hmmm, as income is mainly driven by one source at the moment, I call for it to be renamed Spam Tax. Or something, I just like the idea of the tax man going into peoples spam records.

And remember to get your spam returns in before April people!

You can be Puckton Place of course, but since Byard has specified a preference for red, it's up to him if he wants Byardwalk :P

I have added numbers to the properties that can be re-named to make it easier for everyone (what with all the different versions out there). enjoy.
