Japan is different because of the cultural background.
If you look at history, Japan was more or less isolated for a long period of time compared to most other countries which started dealing with other countries (some far away) much earlier. This still has an influence on the today culture.
In Japan you will always be a stranger, but that does not mean it is impossible to have fun. First you should read some information about history and the way Japanese people communicate. Especially the communication thing is important, otherwise it will drive you crazy.
For example yes does not necessarily mean yes, but "yes, I agree", "yes, maybe", "I will think about it", "I don't agree", "no way dude" and a couple of other options. Just be open minded and prepared. This should work.
