If the law is unclear, the principle of in dubio pro reo applies. So the most charitable view for the defendant is the view I would adopt.
Edit: Nullum crimen sine lege applies too. So no retroactive or vague criminalization.
How confident are you on the procedures? Echoing @Sil Dorsett I mean I am a frigging qualified statistician and actuary by background (as well as a magistrate) and I found handling the Google Sheets to be driving me nuts. Yes Sil taught me everything. Can you elaborate a bit?
EC can be a tough job. I've done it before and I drove myself nuts over counting votes by hand on paper and pencil and then by Google Sheets (and then Excel), especially if Justice elections are involved. In fact I decided not to seek another EC term because it was driving me nuts counting votes...
