JOINT STATEMENT TO THE ASSOCIATION OF NATIONS

Submitted by the Republic of Aubervijr and the Commonwealth of Great Sutherland

13th of January, 2026

The governments of the Republic of Aubervijr and the Commonwealth of Great Sutherland jointly address the Association of Nations to express grave concern regarding the recent and ongoing military escalations initiated by the Republic of Sainaam in the Tangerine Sea.

Both governments note with alarm the confirmed use of live fire against unarmed military aircraft operating in international airspace, followed by further naval and air engagements in proximity to major civilian aviation and maritime routes. These actions represent a serious departure from established norms of conduct and pose a direct and unacceptable risk to civilian life, international commerce, and continental stability.

The Tangerine Sea constitutes a vital corridor for international shipping and civil aviation, relied upon daily by vessels and aircraft of many nations worldwide. Any attempt to normalise the use of force in this space threatens not only the states immediately involved, but the wider international community, and the principles underpinning freedom of navigation and overflight.

Aubervijr and Great Sutherland emphasise that there is no justification under international law for the use of force against aircraft or vessels operating lawfully in international waters or airspace. Such actions undermine confidence, increase the risk of life-threatening miscalculation and significantly heighten the danger of uncontrolled escalation.

In response, our governments have taken precautionary measures to ensure the safety of civilian traffic and to maintain situational awareness in coordination with partners and allies. These measures are entirely defensive in nature and are intended solely to safeguard and uphold lawful international activity.

Aubervijr and Great Sutherland jointly call upon Sainaam to immediately:
  • Cease all hostile and provocative military actions in the Tangerine Sea
  • Exercise maximum restraint
  • Engage through established diplomatic and multilateral channels to prevent further escalation

Both governments request that the Association of Nations give this matter urgent consideration, including the use of appropriate mechanisms to de-escalate tensions, ensure transparency and protect civilian life and freedom of navigation, as defined by international law.

Aubervijr and Great Sutherland reaffirm their commitments to peace, international law and collective security. While neither government seeks confrontation, both are clear and resolute in the view that the safety of civilians and the integrity of international shipping lanes and airspace are fundamental interests that must be upheld and protected by every nation.

Signed,

Christoffel Sempier
