Rune Holway has finalised his resignation of the position as First Minister of Norwall following his victory in the by-election for the South Heregate 2 seat vacated last month, following an unsuccessful effort by both the right and progressives to deny Holway the upper house seat.

His deputy, Dagny Tooke, looks likely to succeed him as a continuity candidate following her broad endorsement of his left-populist platform in the last two elections, as was announced during his electoral campaign last month, while the Moderates are calling for the prospective candidate to run for a re-election for legitimacy.

Theoretically speaking, because of the upcoming elections, the National Assembly of Saintonge has been dissolved and does not technically exist – yet a joint session of Parliament was summoned earlier this morning. According to Article 20 of the Santonian Constitution, the House of Lords may act as the country’s parliament in extraordinary circumstances if the National Assembly cannot convene. This is because the House of Lords is never dissolved, unlike the National Assembly. This clause in Article 20 has never been used.

However, convention also dictates that the National Assembly and the House of Lords are summoned for a joint sitting to acclaim and recognise the new monarch. Never had a Santonian monarch die during an electoral period; this event is particularly unprecedented.

Apparently, the Royal Council agreed that a joint sitting would be most appropriate. According to the Santonian Constitution, if the House of Lords acts on behalf of the entire Parliament, its actions must be ratified by the National Assembly when it is able to reconvene. Because of the elections, this would cause a gap of several weeks; hence the decision to have a joint sitting.​

An interesting anecdote came from deputy Raphaël-Joshua Guédry (Liberal) from Saintes, who was campaigning door-to-door in the borough of Bièvres when he was summoned to the National Assembly. “We deputies have an app that also alarms when the summoning bell rings. I was surprised it rang. I took the subway right away to the National Assembly.”​

Halvard Garnes has, after six year, won the right to be declared the beneficiary of the Ryesen toy company, RÚV has learnt. The High Court ruling will allow Herra Garnes to assume control of the intellectual property and assets of the Rysen company, nationalized by the Syndicalists in 2003. The company had been organized and run by a committe appointed by the government to manage assets after it was declared that the Ryesen family had no living members for the Reparations Committee to acknowledge. Herra Garnes, the distant nephew of Bjarne Rysen, had been fighting for the right to inherit the company since returning from Saintonge in 2018.

Santonian Foreign Minister Marcelline Tréhet de Pontleroy @marcelline_trehet announced earlier today that the Santonian Government @saintonge_gouvernement had designated the "Ten Rings" organisation as a "persistent national security/terrorist threat". The designation freezes the organisation's assets and prohibits people associated with the organisation from entering Saintonge.

Ms Tréhet de Pontleroy implied that the "Ten Rings" organisation was involved in a recent attempt to destabilise Saintonge. When pressed further, the foreign minister said that it was pertaining to the recently-held 2024 elections and that the country's intelligence agencies will be releasing a report soon.

Luscova Municipal Hall and the Municipal Police Department have released a joint statement today, on 09/07/2024 that there is no perceived need for the Harvest Festival to be canceled due to recent acts of terror, and in fact, participating in the festival will stand as a "beacon of defiance" against the forces of evil and fear. So far the spokesperson for the Luscova provincial government has yet to comment. Due to the attack on the White Palace and the attempted assassination attempt of Her Majesty, Empress Alycia, it is likely Her Majesty's Government will host a press conference or release statements soon. Her Majesty promised the people peace when she was coronated, but the Commonwealth has been involved in several conflicts, internal and external since then. A Silverguard resurgence at home, our allies defending their rights to exist, and the recent bombing attacks on Her Majesty and government officials. Will our next war be a War on Terror? Have our international commitments stretched us too far?
