... yeah, I didn't think I would be either. But here I am.

Uh, despite the resignation of Cloud, I feel like the Office is in kinda a good place right now - things get done, even if mistakes are sometimes made. So I'd like to focus on making things run better and be more resilient and able to respond to things quickly. I'd like to see new Deputy Speakers able to get stuck in sooner, and I'd like to think some changes we can make will do that. I made a post in the Speaker's Office when I became Acting Speaker with some plans, and I'll just repost them here:
  1. I've made a formatting change to the Citizenship Sheet so that Government Officials are more easily identified - this will help, I believe, in tracking the activity of those who could be at risk of vacating office. I'm not currently committed to actively pursuing those at risk of such with pings etc, but at least we can keep it under review this way.
  2. There's a proposal for a Constitutional Amendment currently in the Assembly that I've proposed to allow the Speaker to do minor edits to the legal code correct typographical errors and the like.
  3. I plan to amend the Standing Procedures to explicitly lay out a set of duties and permissions Deputy Speakers have by default. I find the current system, whereby every Deputy Speaker needs to have specific permissions requested from forum admin in order to get anything done, tedious and over restrictive. I also plan to rename the Standing Procedures to the Standing Orders, because I like that name more.
  4. I plan to appoint Deputy Speakers if potential Deputy Speakers approach me, because I believe that even if my time in this role will be short, the office should be left in a more secure position than that which I found it. I also plan on retaining the existing Deputy Speakers and ensuring they are fully trained and knowledgeable on all aspects of the role.
  5. I do not plan to get sued.
  6. I may even touch some grass.
The first has been done, the process of the second and third has started and I encourage people to weigh in on those. I am, as of this moment, yet to be sued. I have also touched some grass. So we're already winning!

Nice and simple campaign, I like it. I note you mentioned appointing Deputy Speakers if people were to approach you for the role. In that case, depending on how many people approach you, how many deputy speakers could you foresee appointing?

There's a minimum level of entry but that level of entry is "is able to use google sheets" which is only a hurdle that's ever been a problem once when I've been Speaker - it's likely that if someone approached me, I would make them a Deputy Speaker and teach them the office.

The caveat here is that we're less active now because there's less things to do - a casual look at the Loss of Citizenship and Residency topic suggests either two things - 1. People aren't losing Cit and Residency often or 2. The office isn't checking often. It's not the second one. We check multiple times a day. So I'm aware that if I end up with double digit deputies it may look a certain way but at the same time, I'd be the Speaker and I'm empowered to appoint as many deputies as I like from zero to infinite.
