Independents take the Estates Common!
Section Authored by Azrael von Arcadia-Sova

Following a highly contested election that was decided by margins as narrow as one vote, the Estates Common is now again fully dominated by independent politicians. Most notably, three of the five candidates that campaigned together under a political pact which campaigned on a platform of increased activity, granting them the majority of seats. The previously resurging Royalist Party has suffered a resounding defeat, failing to secure even a single seat in the Estates Common. This comes after the disputed success of the 123rd session of the Estates General, which saw the introduction and comprehensive discussion of two separate constitutional amendments, neither of which were moved to vote before the election. While the political pact criticizes the performance of the previous session as slow and ineffective, others commend its efforts as deeply considerate. With the political pact now in the spotlight of the region, one major question arises: Can they fulfill their campaign promises, or will they falter in the combat of politics? Only time will tell.

The 124th session officially opened on the 8th of October, following a 48-hour election period which saw five out of eight candidates chosen by the people to be their voice within the Estates Common, featuring long time politicians and some newer faces on the political scene. Benedek Széchenyi I, an independent and a member of the political pact, who despite being relatively new to the political scene, received the most votes of all candidates, as 14.75% of the total votes were tallied for Széchenyi I, the voters have put their faith in Benedek to further enhance the regional and legislative activity of the LKE. Azrael von Arcadia-Sova, Henrik Fort II, Mark Bluebird, and Michael R. Grodal have all received 13.11% of the votes, taking the other four seats of the Estates Common. Azrael, an independent candidate who was recently appointed as the new Prime Minister, has been a staple of the political scene for a long time within the LKE. Henrik, an independent and a member of the political pact, is also a new face within the Estates Common, who has a focus on increasing activity in the region. Mark, an independent who has been notable for his long-time service to the LKE in a wide variety of positions with the most notable being Prime Minister, is one not to shy away from political discourse, all in the name of a better LKE. Michael, a reoccurring face in LKE politics who served as the Speaker of the Estates Common throughout most of the year, is an independent who is the founder and leader of the political pact and now promises to lead the charge to a more active region.

Following a period of internal voting, the Estates Common has elected Michael R. Grodal as the new speaker after a 3-2 vote, defeating the previous speaker, Mark Bluebird. With the ever-growing importance of the 124th session of the Estates Common, the Imperial Broadcasting Service has elected to interview the Speaker on some key issues currently in the Estates Common, conducted by Azrael von Arcadia-Sova:

Q: "How did you feel about the handling of the 123rd session of the Estates Common by the former speaker, Right Honorable Mark Bluebird?"

A: "Well meant, but done without taking into account the reality of which the LKE faces."

Q: "Do you plan to restart the creation of the Estates Common Hansard?"

A: "No. I discussed this with the Emperor when I first became Speaker over a year ago, and while I approved of it originally, I think it's outdated and unnecessary."

Q: "Do you have anything in mind to help champion future reform and potentially speed up the law-making process?"

A: "I can't share any specifics (those are on a need-to-know basis), but I generally approve of our Bicameral Legislature. If reforms are to be made, they would focus on fixing specific flaws, not starting from ground zero going over John Locke and Montesquieu. We have a good system, but it needs to be better. That's my belief."

With that we conclude the interview with the Right Honorable Michael R. Grodal, we all can't wait and see what comes out of the Estates Common this session!

Yet whatever comes out of the Estates Common has a chance to fall flat when it arrives in the chamber of their counterpart, the Estates Noble. Being the natural and more conservative safeguard against the Estates Common, the Lords of the Estates Noble may potentially block legislation they deem too radical. One-third of the chamber is held by the Royalist Party, rivals of the political pact. Crown Prince Linkin Maximus and Prince Imperial Maurice de Cèjeau have been chosen for the Estates Noble this session, and they are joined by the Countess of Paraná, Erica von Clair-Arcadia, the current leader of the Royalist Party and Speaker of the chamber.

The 124th session of the Estates General will be an incredibly important one for the LKE, seeing as two comprehensive and crucial bills are being carried over from the 123rd session, that being the State Ministry Reorganization Amendment Act and the Electoral Reform Act. We shall see how much change the political pact can truly bring to the LKE, and how they will address the ongoing challenges together with their fellow Commoners and Nobles.

Triumphs of the Imperial Army!
Report given by the Chief of Imperial General Staff, COG Maurice de Cèjeau

On the 30th of August, The Land of Kings and Emperors’ Imperial Army participated in the largest independent operation in NationStates history. Operation Open Gate, headed by our treaty allies in the Plains of Perdition and the West Pacific alongside the Outback and Carcassonne, was an operation which saw a large coalition of independent regions organizing together in occupying the region of The Hanguard. Alongside the LKE, regions such as our ally Balder, the North Pacific, Talonia, and Vibonia joined in and aided in the success of the operation, with the LKE standing as the only non-frontier and non-GCR region to have formally contributed towards the operation. In total Operation Open Gate managed to amass a peak of 171 endorsements total. An extremely impressive milestone marking Operation Open Gate as the largest independent operation in NationStates history. With the operation concluding, the Imperial Army managed to completely withdraw from the region in about 30 minutes. The Imperial Army was rerouted to The Outback to support the Delegate Walkabout in the security of the region. Operation Open Gate remains a show of strength from independent regions, asserting that alone independent regions are more than capable of conducting operations and asserting power across NationStates without the assistance of raiders.

Alongside Operation Open Gate, the Imperial Army participated in the liberation of Liberty Islands on the 22nd of September. Liberty Islands had been seized by a sleeper five days prior, with the regions Osiris, the Black Hawks, and Kantrias participating in this raid; regions which have remained opposed towards the goals and interests of the LKE. A multitude of other regions, such as our allies in Europeia, the West Pacific, and the Plains of Perdition participated in this liberation. With this coalition of regions, the lead nation managed to amass an impressive 187 endorsements with 132 successfully updating, greatly outnumbering the raider coalition’s 88. This liberation stands as a testament to the Empire's resolve and capability in responding decisively to those who challenge our interests.

The Imperial Army would participate in another independent operation helmed and joined by the same coalition of regions which participated in Operation Open Gate minus Carcassone. The operation dubbed Operation Tripletap was a raid conducted on the 21st October on the region of Arselia. The region of Arselia had previously been couped by a trio of nations which were led by Kantrias. The region was easily seized by the independent coalition, and the attempted transfer from a frontier to a stronghold that had been initiated in Arselia was halted. As of writing, Operation Tripletap is still ongoing. Given Arselia's native inhabitants' past actions and long absence, there are no plans to return the region; it shall remain under joint occupation. Independence has triumphed against raiders, proving once again the power and capability of independent regions. The Imperial Army remains a committed force in aiding our allies and taking down its adversaries which oppose the Empire's interests.

The LKE Imperial Army’s reinforcement of The Outback continues, deployed on outgoing Delegate Walkabout's invitation. The government of The Outback, established under Terannical and his successor Walkabout, was quick to be recognized by many regions, including the LKE itself. Several of them committed pilers to secure Walkabout's delegacy. The LKE was at the time deployed to the Plains of Perdition, created the same day. Later on in the Outback's lifespan, while other regions withdrew support, regions such as the LKE, the Plains of Perdition, Europeia, and Balder stepped up to provide more effective support for the Outback. Today, the Imperial Army remains committed to the Outback and will continue to provide military support for as long as needed in aiding our ally.

(The entirety of Mashriq's Poem has been provided in the original language, Dutch)
