Treaty of Treasure Island
WHEREAS, the Signatories are both Feeder regions committed to closer relations in a post-Frontiers era;
WHEREAS, the Signatories recognize an already strong bond through past and present partnership in multiple multilateral treaties, as well as over fourteen years of continuously maintained in-game embassies;
NOW, THEREFORE, The North Pacific and The West Pacific (“the Signatories”) agree to the following:
Article I - Mutual Recognition
- The West Pacific recognizes The North Pacific, represented by the Delegate of The North Pacific, as established under the Constitution of The North Pacific. The West Pacific will not recognize any government of The North Pacific not empowered by the Constitution.
- The North Pacific recognizes The West Pacific, represented by Delegate Varanius and his successors, as established under the Manners of Governance of The West Pacific. The North Pacific will not recognize any government of The West Pacific other than that of Varanius and his chosen successors.
- The Signatories will maintain their established in-game embassies (i.e., on the NationStates site) and off-site embassies (i.e., on their respective regional forums) with each other.
- The Signatories will not engage in any subterfuge, espionage, or other discreet or clandestine operations against each other for the purposes of collecting non-public or sensitive information or overthrow of the legitimate government of the other, as outlined in Article I.
- The Signatories will not engage in military hostilities against one another. Participation on opposite sides of a military engagement not involving regions owned, controlled, or otherwise protected by either Signatory shall not constitute “engaging in military hostilities against one another” for the purposes of this Treaty.
- The Signatories will provide mutual defense to one another in times of crisis, and may call on one another for military and/or strategic assistance in the event of an attack on their legitimate governments.
- Whenever a Signatory discovers intelligence which may concern a credible threat to the security of the other Signatory’s legitimate government, said Signatory will provide all relevant information to the concerned Signatory's head of government.
- Any such intelligence will be kept strictly confidential and be shared only with those individuals necessary to respond to the threat, unless the other Signatory consents to its release.
- The Signatories recognize occasional differences in their approach to the World Assembly, but will endeavor to support each other with approvals, votes, drafts, and/or other such efforts insofar as their interests align.
- The Signatories will, from time to time, as is appropriate, engage in social and cultural events, festivals, and other activities for the purpose of promoting cultural exchange between the citizens of both regions.
- The Signatories are encouraged to communicate and support one another through sharing experiences and knowledge across adjacent institutions of government.
- This Treaty shall take legal effect upon ratification by the relevant authorities of both Signatories.
- This Treaty may be amended upon ratification by both Signatories. Amendments shall be agreed upon and ratified in the same manner as this Treaty.
- If a Signatory believes that the other Signatory may not have followed through or reneged upon the agreements set forth herein, it shall reach out and attempt to resolve the issue diplomatically prior to dissolving the Treaty.
- In the event of a failure of diplomatic resolution, a Signatory may revoke their ratification of the Treaty, whereupon it shall cease to bind either Signatory.
