As promised when this term began, I am instituting a pilot program for a Court clerk system. If anyone remembers the old Speaker staff, this would work the same. I will accept applications from interested parties to join the program, and from there will provide advice and training for how to engage in the work that this region's legal system entails. This will include not only the Court, but the duties of prosecutors and defense attorneys in criminal trials, as well as the court examiner and the bar commission. Education will help us have better officials in our judicial branch, but that requires training and practice and right now it is entirely on-the-job. Given how important these roles are, there is understandably a lot of interest in better preparing people to take on these roles. I hope that this program can go a long way to providing that preparation, and that it pays off and can be used as a model for future courts to employ. Admittedly, as with the old Speaker staff, this will involve what is essentially homework and busywork, but not even with the benefit of that work leading to concrete progress, since it's essentially all drills and hypothetical stuff that won't actually contribute to our legal process or records. But if you're interested in learning more about these positions, and someday doing these jobs, the work you do as a court clerk will pay off a great deal.
There is another way you can be involved as well, if you are so inclined. Doing drills and practice tasks will take some creativity and time crafting the hypothetical cases or the tests. If you're a good legal mind in the region and have experience on the Court or criminal trial system, I invite you to volunteer as well, to provide the questions, challenges, or tasks for our clerks to complete. Some of you have distinguished yourselves as brief writers or questioners in judicial races providing good legal hypotheticals which would be very useful in this program. I will accept any submissions you would like to send my way to help administer this program.
If you are interested in signing up for this program, or for helping me with its content, send me a PM on this forum or a DM on Discord, and I will add you to the list. In short order I will gather the clerks together so we can begin our work.
