[Private] Opening Court Business

We have a few items we have to take care of as the new term gets underway.

1)Selection of Chief Justice. I would like to put myself forward to continue serving in this capacity.

2)Selection of Bar Commissioner from the Court. With Dreadton off the Court we need to replace him as the Court representative on the commission. I propose @Vivanco serve in this capacity given previous experience with the commission.

3)New initiative: clerk system. I have decided to begin a pilot clerk program to encourage aspiring future justices and those interested in the legal side of TNP. My model is the old Speaker staff which I pioneered during my term as Speaker way back when. Essentially I would put out a call for applicants, accept them into the program, and then reach out to them directly in a group setting and assign them tasks and review their performance. The tasks will primarily be writing hypothetical briefs and legal opinions, and there will also be quizzes on following procedure in criminal trials. I ask for the assistance of my fellow justices to provide insight into content or other ways to make this program better. Ultimately it will boil down to busy work which will drill them in what they need to do in the role, and those who take it seriously and participate will distinguish themselves as strong future candidates for the Court. If there’s any practical work that we need to do that they can do, I haven’t thought of any yet, so let me know if I’m missing something.

In regards to items one and two, I see no issue with you and Vivanco serving as Chief Justice and Bar Commissioner respectively

On item three, I agree with the proposed clerk system, what you've outlined seems quite functional and will hopefully work provided some activity. We could, with enough activity from potential clerks, maybe even hold something akin to a mock trial if there's no practical work.

I apologize yet again for my lack of response, I've been away from home.

I have a small question about the clerk system, will it need to be added to the Court Rules? Will it be managed by all of the justices, or only by one?

Other than that, it sounds good.

The clerk system is entirely dependent on the attention and effort of the Justice facilitating it. I don’t see a need at this time to have it in Court rules, mostly because I don’t know what we could say about it there. The clerks can’t do anything substantial so their presence there is unnecessary and irrelevant.

While I am open to suggestions and input from each of you, this is something I’m willing to tackle on my own. It requires constant input, a lot like watering plants, and will often be a bit of a chore and worst case, a distraction from our other duties. Let me know how much or how little you want to get involved, at your leisure.

I will make the relevant announcements.

I would like to get involved as much as I am allowed to!
