We have a few items we have to take care of as the new term gets underway.
1)Selection of Chief Justice. I would like to put myself forward to continue serving in this capacity.
2)Selection of Bar Commissioner from the Court. With Dreadton off the Court we need to replace him as the Court representative on the commission. I propose @Vivanco serve in this capacity given previous experience with the commission.
3)New initiative: clerk system. I have decided to begin a pilot clerk program to encourage aspiring future justices and those interested in the legal side of TNP. My model is the old Speaker staff which I pioneered during my term as Speaker way back when. Essentially I would put out a call for applicants, accept them into the program, and then reach out to them directly in a group setting and assign them tasks and review their performance. The tasks will primarily be writing hypothetical briefs and legal opinions, and there will also be quizzes on following procedure in criminal trials. I ask for the assistance of my fellow justices to provide insight into content or other ways to make this program better. Ultimately it will boil down to busy work which will drill them in what they need to do in the role, and those who take it seriously and participate will distinguish themselves as strong future candidates for the Court. If there’s any practical work that we need to do that they can do, I haven’t thought of any yet, so let me know if I’m missing something.
