Hello and welcome to the Hexastalian News thread. This is where I'll be putting news stories that I don't think are important enough or well written enough to put in the local news thread. So yeah. You can stop reading this now. Please.

Capitulation likely as Pro-Neutrality Parliamentarians are Lambasted by Prime Minister

Earlier today, Prime Minister Ilona Istvan made an address to parliament in which she addressed the ongoing conflict within parliament over the Neutrality Policy.

In this address, Istvan referred to the parliamentarians supporting the continuation of the Neutrality Policy as, “unintentionally undercutting their own values, which they hold so dear”. She made statements about the nation accepting its responsibility to others and fulfilling the nation’s potential.

She was particularly critical of Zselyke Kóbor, a member of parliament who is a leader in the so-called “traditionalist” faction within the crumbling Progressive Alliance. In her address, Istvan said, “The statements made by Mrs. Kóbor and her colleagues are exactly the sort of things holding us back. They grab onto your fears and they fester within you. This is not about joining or starting conflicts, it is about protecting the values we hold dear: Liberty, Democracy, and Equality.”

In recent days, the number of parliamentarians in favor of continued neutrality has dwindled yet further. This trend is due, in no small part, to the efforts of the Prime Minister and her allies. However, the question still remains: What will Hexastalia’s future look like?

Hexastalia Threatens Sanctions Against Iolanta
In a statement just hours after the end of neutrality, Hexastalia has announced its intention to level sanctions against Iolanta should the border crisis continue. Prime Minister Istvan has previously expressed her support for the Scalvian proposal to end the border crisis, which was rejected. The statement reads as follows:

The government of Hexastalia is deeply alarmed by the ongoing refugee crisis unfolding at the borders of the Republic of Sorovia. We express our unwavering solidarity with the displaced populations and extend our heartfelt support to the Sorovian government as they navigate this challenging situation. The situation demands immediate attention and a collaborative response from the international community to alleviate the hardships faced by those seeking safety and refuge.

In light of these developments, the government of Hexastalia condemns Iolanta's actions in the strongest terms. We find it unacceptable that Iolanta has chosen to disregard the rights and well-being of vulnerable populations, turning them into pawns of political maneuvering. As a responsible member of the international community, Hexastalia firmly believes in upholding morality and human rights. In light of the crisis, we are compelled to consider imposing sanctions on the nation of Iolanta to hold them accountable for their actions. Such measures are intended as a signal of our nation's disapproval of Iolanta's conduct and its implications on regional stability and humanitarian concerns.

We call upon Iolanta to take immediate and meaningful actions to rectify the situation they have created. This includes engaging in diplomatic dialogue with Sorovia and the international community to address the consequences of their actions and ensure that the rights and dignity of the refugees and Vanniri peoples living within Iolanta are respected.

Moreover, Hexastalia urges the international community to rally together in support of Sorovia during this challenging time. The well-being of those affected by the crisis remains paramount, and concerted efforts are required to provide humanitarian assistance and support to Sorovia in managing the situation.

If Sorovia and Iolanta doenot come to the negotiating table to deescalate the situation within twenty-four hours, Hexastalia will institute a wave of sanctions on the State of Etiya.

Hexastalia remains committed to working with the international community to find a just and humane resolution to the refugee crisis. We emphasize the need for cooperation, dialogue, and adherence to international norms in addressing complex humanitarian challenges. We stand ready to engage in constructive discussions with all concerned parties and call for a collective response that upholds the values of human dignity and respect for the rights of those in need.

Parliament Approves Plans for First Nuclear Power Plant
Earlier today, parliament passed a bill which would approve the construction of the planned Fasor nuclear power plant. The plant, which failed to be approved by parliament in 2018 will be built in the northeastern part of the Afolyovege province. Fasor's failure to receive approval from parliament in 2018 was revealed to be the work of politicians who had received bribes from the fossil fuel industry. Now that the corruption has been exposed, the power plant handily garnered support. The Labor party, which also voted against the proposal in 2018, continued to raise a stink about the possibility of workers losing their jobs as the nuclear plant replaces the old fossil fuel energy plants.

The plant will be built by the newly nationalized Hexastalian Power Company, with technical assistance being provided by Esthursia. The design is planned to produce around 2000 MW of power and be commissioned in late 2028. Hexastalia has historically leaned heavily on the fossil fuels to maintain their power grid but the approvement of the Fasor plant shows that the country is moving towards a more sustainable future.

Hexastalia Condemns Predice's Actions
In the wake of the escalating refugee crisis at Sorovia's borders, tensions have reached a boiling point with the country of Predice's recent decision to deploy a fleet to the continent. The move has raised concerns among the international community and further complicated the already delicate humanitarian situation in the region.

As the situation unfolds, Hexastalia, a nation committed to peaceful diplomacy and humanitarian efforts, has voiced its strong condemnation of Predice's military response. In a recent statement issued by the Ministry of International Relations, Hexastalia expressed deep concern regarding the escalation and urged all parties involved to prioritize a peaceful and diplomatic resolution.

The statement called the action by Predice "rash and reckless" and "escalatory". The statement encouraged Predice to withdraw its forces so that diplomatic solutions to the crisis could continue without nations of the region feeling threatened. Hexastalia further stated that it would continue to support Sorovia in spite of Predice's military involvement. Sources within the Hexastalian Defense Forces have said that military alertness has been raised from Code Blue (peacetime conditions) to Code Green (Additional Alert) among certain units of the military in case of further escalation into armed conflict.

Hexastalia Nationalizes Railways, Announces Modernization Plans

In a bold move to enhance transportation infrastructure and promote sustainable development, Hexastalia has announced the nationalization of its rail network along with comprehensive plans for a modernization overhaul, with technical expertise being provided through collaboration with Goyanes. The decision underscores the government's commitment to efficient public transportation, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.

By centralizing rail operations, the government aims to improve service quality, promote affordability, and bolster accessibility across the nation. Historically, Hexastalia’s privatized railways have lacked those qualities.

Prime Minister Ilona Istvan, in a press conference, stated, "Our rail network holds immense potential to connect communities, stimulate economic activity, and reduce our carbon footprint. By taking this step towards nationalization, we are placing the interests of our citizens at the forefront and setting the stage for a more efficient and sustainable future."

The modernization plans entail a comprehensive overhaul of existing rail infrastructure and the introduction of cutting-edge technologies. The government has committed to upgrading tracks, stations, and rolling stock to ensure passenger safety, comfort, and efficiency. Additionally, the initiative aligns with Hexastalia's ambitious climate goals by promoting a shift towards eco-friendly transportation alternatives.

The move has garnered support from environmental advocates and urban planners, who view the modernization of the rail network as a crucial step towards reducing congestion, air pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions. The improved rail system is anticipated to encourage more citizens to opt for public transportation, contributing to a greener and more sustainable urban landscape.

The nationalization and modernization plans are expected to create new employment opportunities, stimulate economic growth in the rail industry, and foster technological innovation. The government has stressed its commitment to involving local communities and stakeholders in the planning process to ensure that the revitalized rail network meets the needs of all citizens.

As the modernization plans unfold, the eyes of the nation remain focused on the promising changes that lie ahead. Hexastalia's commitment to sustainable development through improved transportation infrastructure reflects its dedication to creating a brighter future for its citizens and the environment.

The Hexastalia Sun in Hot Water After Publishing Misinformation

In a dramatic turn of events, the Hexastalia Sun has found itself in hot water with the government after publishing an article with a misleading quote from a government official. As tensions escalated following the article's release, authorities have taken action, demanding the removal of the misleading content.
The tabloid, known for its provocative headlines and speculative reporting, had published an article suggesting that Hexastalia was embarking on a nuclear weapons program based on a snippet from an exclusive interview. In the full interview, Director of Defense Roland Vada is heard saying, “We’re constantly evaluating our national security needs and considering all options to maintain the safety of the nation and its citizens. At this point in time, that does include nuclear weapons. Sorry, sorry, does not include nuclear weapons. We have no plans to construct any nuclear devices.” The misleading nature of the article sparked international concern and led to widespread speculation.

In response to the article, Hexastalia's government swiftly denounced the tabloid's reporting as irresponsible and potentially damaging to the nation's reputation, and threatened legal action if the Sun did not take down the article. The government argued that the out-of-context quote had been sensationalized to an extent that it could mislead readers and provoke unnecessary panic. It was taken down within 2 hours. The Sun is unlikely to receive any such exclusive interviews in the foreseeable future.

New Energy Bill Passes Parliament
Riding on the coattails of the passing of the approval for the Fasor Nuclear Power Plant, New Left parliamentarians have proposed and passed a second energy modernization bill. The bill, called the "Green Energy 2030" bill will see Hexastalia reduce the number of Coal fired power plants by 15% by 2030, replacing them with more environmentally conscientious alternatives. It also offers incentives for citizens to purchase hybrid or electric vehicles rather than gas guzzlers, and would see a total of 40 million Penz (about 5.9 million IBU) set aside to install solar panels on government buildings.

Critics of the bill have pointed out that many coal power plant workers will likely lose their jobs due to the bill, ssaid they believed it to be too ambitious, and accused the government of diverting funds from more important projects to fuel Istvan's pet projects. Istvan responded by saying that she had no hand in drafting the bill or in promoting it and that she would personally push for increased assistance to the unemployed. If the bill is executed, Hexastalia will have reduced its fossil fuel usage from 59% of the domestic power generation capacity to 44%.

Hexastalia to Hold Referendum on Vieremä Group Membership

Hexastalia is gearing up for a pivotal decision as the nation prepares to hold a referendum on whether to join the Vieremä Group, a regional cultural, economic, and political group. The referendum, scheduled for later this month, has captured the attention of citizens and policymakers alike.

The Vieremä Group comprises neighboring nations, including Sorovia and Esthursia, united by shared interests and objectives. Membership would entail closer cooperation on various fronts, including trade, security, and cultural exchange. Should the referendum pass, it would be submitted to the Parliament for approval.

The upcoming referendum has sparked spirited debates across Hexastalia, with proponents arguing that joining the Vieremä Group would bolster the nation's regional influence and provide opportunities for economic growth. Critics, on the other hand, express concerns about potential loss of sovereignty and the need for a thorough examination of the terms of membership.

As the referendum date approaches, both supporters and opponents are intensifying their campaigns to sway public opinion. The outcome of this historic vote will not only shape Hexastalia's future but also have implications for the broader regional landscape.

The referendum begins on September 24th and will remain open until the 30th. You can vote at www.myvote.gov.hx or in person at your local voting location.

Hexastalia Announces Plans to Increase Military Expenditure to 1.5% of GDP

Date: September 29, 2023

Hexastalia has announced a significant increase in its military expenditure, raising it from 1% to 1.5% of the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) within the next fiscal year. This decision, which marks a notable shift in the country's budget priorities, has drawn attention from both domestic and international observers.

The move comes amid growing concerns about regional security and the evolving geopolitical landscape. Hexastalia's decision to allocate a larger portion of its budget to defense is seen as a strategic response to emerging challenges in an uncertain world.

While the increase in military spending signals a commitment to bolstering the nation's defense capabilities, it has also ignited debates within Hexastalia about the allocation of resources. Advocates argue that a stronger military is essential for safeguarding national interests and maintaining stability both at home and abroad, while critics raise questions about the potential impact on other sectors, such as social welfare and infrastructure development.

The government has stressed that the adjustment in military expenditure is part of a broader strategy to enhance national security and contribute to regional stability. It emphasizes the importance of a balanced approach that addresses both defense needs and the welfare of Hexastalia's citizens.

This increase in military spending will likely lead to upgrades in equipment, training, and readiness, positioning Hexastalia to better respond to evolving security challenges.

Hexastalia’s current budget is about 6 billion IBU. With the budget increase, this will rise to nearly 9 billion IBU.

As the nation adapts to this new budget allocation, discussions on the implications and benefits of the increased military expenditure will continue to unfold in Hexastalia's political and public spheres.

Stay tuned for further developments on Hexastalia's defense policy and its impact on both domestic and international affairs.

Vieremä Group Referendum Passes

In a momentous display of public opinion, Hexastalia’s citizenry has voted decisively in favor of the country’s entry into the Vieremä Group. The referendum, held from the 24th to the 30th, saw a majority of Hexastalia’s voting public casting their votes in favor of membership, signaling a pivotal shift in the nation’s foreign policy.

With an impressive margin, the referendum results confirmed the desire of the majority of Hexastalian citizens to deepen regional ties and engage in cooperation with neighboring countries. The outcome reflects a significant shift in the country’s approach to international relations and marks a departure from the historical policy of isolationism and neutrality, a policy that was abolished in July.

The Vieremä Group, comprising the Aurorian nations of Sorovia, Esthursia, and Tardine, is a group of nations united by shared cultural, economic, and political interests. Hexastalia is likely to join as the fourth member, should the referendum’s results achieve the success it did in parliament as it did among the public. This would foster increased collaboration with the Group’s members with Hexastalia.

The referendum campaign was marked by spirited debates and discussions across Hexastalia’s media sphere and online. Proponents highlighted the benefits of this cooperation and opponents expressed concerns on the effects this could have on Hexastalia’s national sovereignty. Ultimately, the resounding support for membership underscored the will of the people to embrace a more engaged role on the regional stage.

Many members of the government have supported the move for membership. Prime Minister Istvan has thrown her support behind membership wholeheartedly. President Imre Pethes took a different approach, refusing to express his support of opposition to membership, saying in an interview, “as president I have an obligation to speak for the people. My opinions on membership will not sway anyone. If it passes I will ratify it, if it does not I will not.”

Referendum results:
For: 69.65%
Against: 30.05%

V3 No Longer; Hexastalia joins Vieremä Group

With the Sorovian approval of entry, Hexastalia has become the fourth member of the Vieremä group. Together with the signing of the Compass program earlier this year in Kiral, Hexastalia has entrenched itself in a new frontier of regional cooperation.

Hexastalia’s entry into the Group opens the door to further cooperation with its members on improved economic partnerships, cooperation in science and technology, and cultural exchange. With strong support in both parliament and among the public, the move has been greeted with enthusiasm. Prime Minister Istvan stated, “We look forward to working more closely with our new partners in the Vieremä Group.”

With the recent foundation of the Trans-Auroria Customs Union, now referred to as A5, Hexastalia faces a crossroads. Can it be part of both, or just one? And if it can only be one, which would it be? For now, Hexastalia is just a part of the V4. Parliament has no votes scheduled for A5 membership, though there has been discourse among the public and in politics on the topic.

This strategic move aims to enhance the nation's defense readiness and strengthen its ability to safeguard its airspace. Details regarding the specific jet models and procurement process are expected to be unveiled in the coming months. The decision reflects Hexastalia's commitment to maintaining a modern and effective Air Force, capable of addressing evolving security challenges.

The Air Force is looking for 8-12 aircraft with multirole capabilities and 2-3 additional conversion trainers of the same type. Sorovia and Esthursia have already submitted a bid of the H-87 fighters.

Hexastalia Announces Total Embargo Against Iolanta

As a result of the further international inaction against the Iolantan regime, Hexastalia has enacted a comprehensive embargo on Iolanta. This comes as a result of Iolanta’s continued inaction to reform as they promised and continued oppression of the Vanniri majority by a minority government, as well as the ongoing refugee crisis on the border with Sorovia.

The embargo has resulted in the suspension of all trade with Iolanta. Additionally, the maritime and airspace borders were closed to any vessels or planes registered in Iolanta. Hexastalia has also announced that ½ of its diplomatic staff in Iolanta would be recalled to Hexastalia, and it would be ejecting ½ of Iolanta’s diplomatic personnel.

In a speech, Prime Minister Ilona Istvan said, “The existence of the Iolantan state in its current form is a blight upon Auroria. To not take action would be a slight upon the values of freedom that democracy holds near and dear. I urge all democratic countries who continue to do business with this apartheid state built upon the institutions of racism and inequality to cease their support for a state so fundamentally antithetical to their values. Iolanta must change.” In this same speech, Istvan pledged to take in up to ten thousand Vaniri refugees displaced from their homes in Iolanta.

Later that day, it was announced that the Hexastalian corvette HNS Huntress and Patrol Vessel HNS Kuvasz would be involved with bilateral exercises with the Esthursian navy near Cordane.

Who Are the Candidates for Next Year's Election?
New Left Coalition: The New Left Coalition is a new coalition that was established by left wing parties that split from the Progressive Alliance's Liberal Coalition after the Barta Scandal. The Coalition currently consists of the Liberal Democratic Party, Democratic Socialist Party, and the Labor Party.
Candidates:
Ilona Istvan
IMG_2435.jpg

Party: Democratic Socialist Party
Istvan is expected to campaign on a platform that emphasizes social justice, economic development, and continued active engagement in regional alliances. As she launches her reelection bid, the Prime Minister faces the task of articulating her vision for the nation's future and building on the successes of her previous term. Currently, her odds for reelection are looking very good.

Progressive Alliance: Fractured in face of their most prominent member's scandal and removal from office, the Progressive Alliance now faces a choice: Reform the party, or continue with tradition and hope the unpopularity will pass. This sees two candidates arrive in the party; one from each faction within the party.
Candidates:
Imre Pethes
IMG_3361.jpg

Party: Progressive Alliance, Reform Faction
Pethes, acting President, has announced he will run against his longtime friend Ilona Istvan. Pethes runs on a platform of lowered tax rates, green power, reducing Hexastalian presence in the Imperium, limited nationalizations, and civil rights. According to an interview, Pethes is mainly running to give the party an option other than Kóbor.

Zselyke Kóbor
image0.jpg

Party: Progressive Alliance, Tradition faction
Kóbor is a longtime member of parliament and a prominent member of the traditionalist faction of the Progressive Alliance. She is campaigning on a return to Hexastalian politics before Istvan, which entails pulling out of the Imperium, leaving V4, reinstating the Neutrality Policy, and privatizing the recently nationalized companies. If elected, Kóbor will be the youngest Prime Minister Hexastalia has ever had.

Right Wing Coalition: Having gained traction in the last election, and capitalizing on the instability in the Progressive Alliance, the Right Wing of Hexastalian politics seeks to get its first Prime Minister in the seat since the turn of the century. However, conflict between the moderate People's Party and the populist, further right Conservative Union have made the coalition's endorsement uncertain. Currently, three candidates are in the race.

Andor Szabó
Andor.jpg

Party: People's Party
A veteran member of parliament, Szabó seeks his party's endorsement to lead the charge against Istvan. He is running on a platform of reduced government spending, reduced tax rate, and privatization of some industries. Szabó appears to be his party's frontrunner but that doesn't dissuade his opponents from trying.

Lázár Dobos
Dobos.jpg

Party: People's Party
A former military officer, Dobos is running against his longtime party rival, Andor Szabó. A noted militarist, Dobos varies from his opponent in that he seeks a more aggressive foreign policy. Dobos is running a platform of increased military spending, further foreign military alliances, and privatization of certain industries. While opinion polls show Dobos trailing behind Szabó, Dobos has been gaining ground since his initial declaration of intent to run.

Annamaria Csintalan
Csintalan.jpg

Party: Conservative Union
The nation's most prominent right-wing populist, Csintalan offers an interesting alternative to the People's Party candidates. An open nationalist, Csintalan is easily the furthest right candidate on the docket. She's running on an expansive platform with notable issues ranging from tightening migration controls, repealing protections for the LGBTQIA+ community, sweeping privatizations, a laissez-faire economic system, pulling out of the V4, and even repealing protections for the Sosva and Khoyat languages. Current polls show her trailing far behind the People's Party candidates.

Hexastalian Parliament Announces Santa has Been Permitted to Enter Airspace over Christmas

Santa Claus has officially been granted permission to enter Hexastalia airspace this Christmas. Speaker of the Parliament Romána Pintér made the announcement - which has become an annual tradition - during a meeting of Parliament on Friday afternoon (22 December). “I would like to confirm that Santa Claus has permission to enter Hexastalian airspace and to cross our borders from December 24 to December 25,” she told the gathered Parliament. “I want to thank Directorate of Transportation, the Directorate of Defense, and the Aviation Authority for allowing the necessary exemptions to occur.”

Hexastalian Army Announces New Purchases
Hexastalia and the Andrennian government have finalized a deal to procure GHRARS-11 systems for the Hexastalian Army, the Directorate of Defense announced today. The deal includes 36 GHRARS-11 systems to be mounted on locally produced Vol-Petra Military Motors chassis, hundreds of missiles, and 8 AN-LYG/NSAS USN 770 "Firefly" UAVs. These purchases have coincided with sweeping reforms and modernizations across the Armed Forces.

Additionally, the Directorate of Defense has ordered additional RTT/07 multiple launch rocket launchers to fully phase out the aging RTT/75 system. Although both systems use 122mm rockets, the RTT/07 has integrated the necessary systems for GPS guided rockets, which are slowly trickling into the units. Additional orders for those guided rockets have also been placed.

Director of Defense Roland Vadas said in a statement alongside the announcement, "a precision rocket artillery capability was something any modern army should have. It was something that Hexastalia had declined to invest in, something we have now rectified. These purchases will be of great use as force multipliers for our military in a modern, evolving battlefield."

Man With Firearm Near Parliament Arrested After Standoff With Police
A man brandishing a loaded firearm near the Parliament Building in Hexstal has been arrested, according to the National Police.

A statement on Twitcher by the National Police had the following to say: “National Police Officers responded to calls that a man was brandishing a rifle near the Parliament Building. He was arrested after a brief standoff, where he took cover within a public restroom. At this time we have no reason to believe that there is any ongoing threat. Additional information will be published here as we continue to investigate.”

The man has been taken to hospital for minor injuries sustained during his arrest, according to a National Police statement.

Police said they were alerted early in the morning to a man wandering near the Parliament building wielding a semi-automatic rifle. Armed officers responded and found the suspect, whose name has yet to be released. When police arrived, the suspect ran away and took shelter in a public restroom. After a 90 minute standoff, police threw a flashbang grenade and stormed the bathroom, taking the suspect into custody with no shots fired.

The man was apparently there to protest against Prime Minister Istvan’s policies, however police also believe he may have mental health issues as well. Police say the suspect did not had a specific target but his armed presence was cause for concern and his arrest.

The Chief of the Hexstal National Police District congratulated the officers involved for a “successful arrest that prevented the possibility of violence.” He also confirmed that the man would be charged with unlawful brandishing of a firearm.

Chasm Widens Between Progressive Factions After Presidential Candidate Debate

Hexastalia’s most recent presidential candidate debate has led to a deepening of the divide between the Reform and Tradition factions within the Progressive Alliance. The debate, which was attended by former Prime Minister Sebestyen Barta, has led to scathing condemnations from both inside the party and from other groups. Barta’s presence at the debate drew sharp criticism from across the political spectrum and led to several candidates refusing to attend.

Tensions reached a breaking point when the discussion turned to integrity. After several comments by Barta about his integrity and the “attacks on my character by foreign subversives”, several other candidates walked off the stage in protests. One stated, “if I wanted to argue with a clown over policy, I would’ve visited the circus.” before leaving the stage.

On Twitcher, President Imre Pethes, who refused to attend the event declared that “Unless Mr. Barta is discredited by the Progressive Alliance Party immediately, I will consider them to be betraying their ideals and will resign as a member of the party.” No official apology has been published as of yet.

Hexastalia Responds to Earthquake in Ultramont

Following yesterday’s devastating earthquake in Ultramont, the Hexastalian government has been quick on the response. The quake, which has caused significant damage in northern Ultramont and the city of Gabréal, is one of the worst the country has suffered in recent memory.

The Directorates of International Relations, Health and Welfare, and Natural Resources issued a public offer of support for Ultramont that would be sent to the country should it be accepted. The offer included a donation of $2,500,000 IBU, 20 diesel generators, 4 diesel powered water pumps, 50 tonnes of medical supplies, 80 tonnes of foodstuffs and other supplies, 4 search and rescue teams from the Civil Defense Service, and a medical team. It also offered to deploy the replenishment oiler HNS Nyitrai to transport additional supplies, and a team of military engineers should they be needed.

Non government organizations have also rushed to provide aid to Ultramont in these trying times. Both the Red Cross Society of Hexastalia and Food Bank Group of Hexastalia have begun donation and food drives to benefit those affected by the earthquakes.

Statement from Prime Minister Ilona Istvan on Sorovia's Intervention in Iolanta

It is with a heavy heart that I address the recent developments unfolding in our region. Hexastalia stands firm in its commitment to peace, stability, and the principles of law. However, the recent invasion of parts of Iolanta by our ally, Sorovia, has left us deeply concerned.

While it is unfortunate that the situation has escalated to this point, we cannot ignore the atrocities committed by the oppressive regime in Iolanta. The regime's flagrant disregard for human rights, its apartheid policies, and its continued suppression of basic freedoms have left us with no choice but to acknowledge the need for action.

Sorovia's decision to intervene, while regrettable, underscores the urgency of addressing the humanitarian crisis unfolding within Iolanta's borders. The international community must come together to put an end to the regime's reign of oppression and ensure that justice is served for the countless innocent lives affected. Hexastalia will stand by her Sorovian allies in this trying time.

As Prime Minister of Hexastalia, I call upon all parties involved to exercise restraint and work towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict. We stand ready to support diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and facilitating dialogue between Sorovia and Iolanta.

It is our sincere hope that this crisis serves as a catalyst for positive change in the region, leading to the establishment of a just and inclusive society in Iolanta. Hexastalia remains committed to supporting our allies in their efforts to uphold democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.

May peace and stability prevail in our region, now and in the days to come.

-Prime Minister Ilona Istvan

President Pethes Announces Departure from Progressive Alliance, Joins Renamed Liberal Party
IMG_4334.webp

In a seismic political shift that has sent shockwaves through the halls of government, President Imre Pethes and several other prominent political figures have announced their departure from the Progressive Alliance party. Their decision comes after weeks of tensions and deliberations within the party over the divisive presence of former Prime Minister Sebestyen Barta, whose polarizing rhetoric and dark past have shaken the party to its core, as a once again prominent member of the progressives.

President Pethes, a stalwart within the party and the leader of the party’s Reform faction, cited irreconcilable differences with the party’s leadership on the issue of Barta’s continued affiliation with the party. Leaving alongside Pethes are 12 parliamentarians and several regional council members.

In an unprecedented move, Pethes and his cohort have joined the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), which prompted the LDP to rebrand themselves as the Liberal Party of Hexastalia. This move is a strategic maneuver on the part of Pethes to consolidate pro-Istvan liberal forces within one party. As a result of this move, and past defections from the Progressives to the LDP, the Liberals in Parliament now number 58 while the Progressives have fallen to just 33 seats. The Progressives haven’t seen that few seats in parliament since 1994.

Barta himself has made several more appearances at debates and other political events, further pushing an auroroskeptical, isolationist view. He is commonly met with both applause and boos.

Pethes’ departure from the Progressive Alliance has made one thing abundantly clear to Hexastalia: the winds of change are blowing. A transformation of Hexastalian politics is already underway and it will continue into the foreseeable future. Few things are as certain as this: it will be a very interesting election year.

Former Prime Minister Sebestyen Barta Arrested on Charges of Corruption

In a surprise operation, former Prime Minister Sebestyen Barta was arrested at his house on the Lake Tó this morning on corruption charges filed by the courts. The arrest comes after nearly nine months of investigation and evidence gathering into the allegations of abuse of power and corruption during Barta’s tenure as head of the Hexastalian government.

Barta, who has recently attempted to reenter politics, was taken into custody early this morning following a series of police raids on properties linked to the investigation. The charges filed against him include 6 charges of corruption which each hold a potential penalty of up to 15 years in prison. The courts and National Police have held off on charging Barta with these crimes prior so they could gather further evidence of wrongdoing.

The corruption scandal surrounding Barta has shaken public confidence in the formerly monolithic Progressive Alliance party and fueled numerous calls for greater transparency and accountability from the government. The arrest has been called a watershed moment in the fight against corruption in Hexastalia, signaling a renewed commitment to upholding the rule of law while combating the corruption of public officials at the highest levels of political power.

As Barta prepares to face trial, the nation watches with bated breath, grappling with the possible implications of his arrest for the future of Hexastalian politics. Barta has been forced to drop out of the Presidential race due to his arrest. The case is expected to cast a shadow over the political landscape, with ramifications that could reshape governance and public discourse for years to come.

The Defence of Hexastalia: DoD Releases Yearly Report
sszij3.png

Hexastalia’s Directorate of Defence has unveiled an ambitious modernization plan for the Hexastalian Defence Forces aiming to reorganize and modernize the Defence Forces to meet the challenges of a modern warfighting environment. The plan, which was released publically in the form of a report titled “The Defence of Hexastalia” encompasses a range of initiatives and proposals designed to improve the military’s readiness and warfighting capabilities.

Army

The first portion of the report focused on a reorganization of ground forces. The DoD has, in a similar fashion to Scalvia’s return to the Division, suggested a higher echelon of command above the brigade. For this purpose, it has been suggested that the Hexastalian Army move from three to five Operational Commands. These Operational Commands would have a more even spread of combat units than prior: each with 4 combat brigades. Unlike Scalvian divisions, Operational Commands will focus mostly on coordinating combat operations between brigades, with little in the way of division-level assets. Some previously brigade-level assets will be centralized at the Operational Command Level.

Additionally, the DoD has outlined several planned acquisition programs for the Army that will seek to bring the army up to modern and near-future warfighting ability. These include the upgrade of the Army’s existing fleet of Polecat armored personnel carriers (APCs) to Polecat-M standard, the replacement of M500 Infantry Fighting Vehicles and the GT/3M Cataphract Main Battle Tank by a new system by 2030, and programs to replace aging artillery and air defense systems, and the replacement of its aging fleet of helicopters. The paper also emphasizes changing military equipment doctrine, noting the newfound importance of standardization with allied forces. Though the paper does not mention any nation in particular, it is likely that this means the Hexastalian Army will increasingly be buying from fellow V4 nations.

Air Force

The Air Force portion of the report one of the most interesting ections. The report covered several developments within the Air Force from fighters to intelligence gathering. The Air Force, the report reasoned, was the presently most neglected branch of the military and is inadequate to protect Hexastalia from a peer level threat or fulfill humanitarian missions.

As such, the report suggests several programs and acquisitions to bring the Air Force to modern levels. It points out that theoretically Hexastalia could maintain as many as seven fighter squadrons if it had need, but maintains that four squadrons is presently adequate and reasonable. Furthermore, the report finally confirms that Hexastalia will order 36 F/A-616 Osprey II stealth fighters once the program begins production. Hexastalia is a member nation of the Osprey program but has previously withheld the exact number it plans to order.

The report goes on to explain several other problems with the Air Force. It criticizes the lack of proper air transport capability and recommends possibly up to doubling the airlift capacity. The paper goes on to state that the Hexastalian Air Force’s lack of capable intelligence gathering platforms puts it at a distinct disadvantage in a peer level war and hampers its abilities to conduct operations against an asymmetric threat, the paper recommends the procurement of a SigInt and ELINT platform. It also recommends the updating of Hexastalia’s aging training aircraft. The paper also suggested the Air Force and Army work together to update their air defense systems.

Navy

As usual, the navy section of the paper is of considerable length due to Hexastalia’s long maritime border on the Weskermere. Most prominently, the report suggests that the navy retire several ships including the HNS Roland Vida hydrographic survey ship and Seal-class patrol vessels. The paper argues the modularity of the aging Seal-class vessels is actually to their detriment and their replacement should be more specialized. It also suggests that the navy should increase its combat force with the addition of 2-3 modern corvettes between 1800 and 2500 tonnes displacement and 2-4 additional submarines. Further, the paper states that HNS Nyitrai, the fleet’s oiler and supply auxiliary is to be put out to pasture and replaced with the paper suggesting that the replacement program begin no later than late 2025. Finally, the paper suggests beginning the replacement program for the Afolyovege-class frigates by 2027.

While these sweeping purchase suggestions may surprise some readers, according to some analysts they all make sense. The Seal-class was aging and due to be replaced soon anyways. Hexastalia’s submarine fleet has been in very high demand for much of the last several months and additional subs would allow the navy to complete more missions on a less strict timetable. The fleet also has been stretched thin: it had trouble deploying in force to two hotspots that were effectively in its own backyard, the additional corvettes would partially solve this issue. Afolyovege-class frigates are also aging and are certainly not up to modern standards either. HNS Nyitrai has been showing its age recently as one of the oldest ships in the fleet.

The Navy section also describes the integration of new technologies including sensors, HS-VLS, electronic systems, weapons, and unmanned vehicles.

This new Defence Report highlights Hexastalia’s rapidly changing defense strategy, with an increased emphasis on modern, capable forces that can take on threats to the country both regionally and internationally.
