As some of you might know, neither the government nor the Administrators have full access to our regional nation The Northern Light right now due to the absence of the owner of the nation and the maintainer of a large number of our scripts, @r3naissanc3r. This has caused a few issues that will hopefully be absolved by the work of the newly-created Tech Guild on our Discord server, but there is one issue that couldn't be solved through tech. It has been my intention, since taking office, to begin sending recruitment telegrams after the Frontiers update. There are several automated and manual ways to do this, but the most effective is of course to use all of these methods at the same time. One of the automated methods is using stamps, which are purchased with real-world currency. Any nation is allowed to donate purchased stamps to another nation, so since we want to ensure any stamps that are donated will be actually used for this purpose, they would all be ideally pooled in a shared regional nation. The Northern Light would have been perfect for this purpose, but as it is not accessible, that eliminates it as an option.
With that in mind, I am unveiling our new regional nation, The Polar Express! For some reason the north is frequently associated with the cold and the Arctic, so it's a perfectly on-brand name for us. Is it going to be Polar Express themed? I'm not entirely sure, who knows.
But here's the most important part of this announcement: someone has to buy the stamps. We are hoping it'll come from you, our fellow North Pacificans. We hope you will answer the call to help out the region and start donating stamps to The Polar Express. There's no pressure to donate, and donating won't gain you any political favours (this is not the real world), but we would be extremely grateful for any amount you can afford. $1 USD would allow us to reach 1,000 new nations, which to me seems like a decent return. If you want to donate, here are the simple steps:
1) Head to the NationStates Store
2) Near the top of the page, click the button that says "Gift Options"
3) In the field that appears, enter "The Polar Express" and select the nation
4) Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the "Telegram Stamps" item and enter how many you would like to purchase, then click "Add to Cart"
5) Follow the instructions to pay

IMPORTANT NOTE: Do NOT, under any circumstances, mention or discuss this announcement or donation of stamps to The Polar Express, in-game (e.g. on the RMB or on the NationStates forums). That would fall afoul of NationStates' strict anti-Commercialism rules.
In case you are wondering, there will be some form of symbolic recognition that's yet to be decided for those who do donate, just as a gesture of appreciation. NationStates notifies the nation on the identity of the donor, unless you choose to remain anonymous (which is an option you can choose when you select the nation to gift to).
To quote the Conductor of the Polar Express - "One thing about trains: It doesn't matter where they're going. What matter is deciding to get on." I hope you will all join me on this journey to an unknown destination - but I'm confident it'll be a wonderful place.
